I stopped sledding bc I know I have the need for speed .I was going over 100 mph through a field and was just 1 inch from a barbed wire fence with no helmet . Thank God sleds have amazing brakes ! I haven't rode since

Sounds like the trees are the problems.

The accidents themselves are tragic. However, a lot of these are avoidable. These machines are nothing compared to the sleds of early days. The riders are even more inexperienced to handle the power some of these sleds have. Ride within your limits. Respect the machine. Just cause you can just go out and buy one doesn't mean you have the knowledge to operate it safely.

      ALL of these were unavoidable.

I’ve never liked riding on lakes , in Maine a few years back 4 people were killed going through the ice 3 of the same crew of guys, Klim makes a snowmobile jacket that is a flotation device. Watch the Video. If you’re buying a jacket anyway look into one of these it could save your life . Also bring a length of rope. Home Depot sells a100’ 3/8” line that would fit into any compartment, $6.00 ,

As a Dad of a 3 and 5 YO boys (Boys... Yea.... I'm lucky hehe), I have started my oldest out at 3YO on a 120cc sled. I dialed down the throttle so it would only go about 5-7MPH. That was 2 years ago. Now its set for about 10-12MPH and he's 5. I never understood guys putting their young kids' on 500CC, 600CC or even higher and bragging about that. So much can go wrong in just a couple seconds with those high power machines. I have a 340cc fan sled and I don't think I'll let him on that until he's at least 8-10 and I'll be limiting the throttle travel for low max speed.

If you can’t control your machine stay off them , they’re high performance machines , now that guy that went through the ice , that’s a different story

THAT story is someone not checking the condition of the ice before riding, and not being prepared for it. Was he alone? Did he have ice picks and was he wearing them PROPERLY?

Hey, I got an idea. Let's not let 12 year olds drive snowmobiles. You have to be 15 or older to ride an Ebike.

But emerging science about brain development suggests that most people don't reach full maturity until the age 25.

@Daniel Berg The 55 year old crashed into a tree as well. The point is that these machines need to be handled appropriately. Accidents are going to happen either way, I can understand that. But to make a statement that 12 year old kids shouldn't be riding is unreasonable. At the end of the day people lost their family members, and I am sorry for them.

Rob, actually, base jumping followed by horseback riding are the deadliest sports ever. And the deadliest occupation is logging, with fishing and fishing related JOBS in second. As far as recreational sports go, fishing is considered one of the safest.

Snow mobiles are the fastest offroad vehicles that exist. Hitting a tree at high speed with anything will do it
