Andrew Nemr is a Tap Dancer. Andrew is considered one of the most diverse tap dance artists today.
He has played with Grammy Award winning musicians across multiple genres, is the founder and Artistic Director of the tap dance company Cats Paying Dues, now in their 11th season, and the co-founder of the Tap Legacy™ Foundation, Inc. “A masterly tapper” (New York Times), Nemr uses the story of his journey and the craft of tap dance to speak on ideas of identity, community, faith, and love.
A unique speaker, often tap dancing while giving his talks, Andrew has been featured at International Arts Movement’s INHABIT, the Palliative Care Symposium, the Creative Church Conference, the Culture Care Leadership Summit, among others.Andrew is an honorary member of the Copasetics, Inc., an organization established to promote the legacy of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson.
Max ZT is a Percussion artist. Max ZT was six years old when he heard the hammered dulcimer at an American folk festival near Chicago. Twenty-one years later he is one of the youngest musicians playing this string instrument. Lauded as the “Jimi Hendrix of Hammered Dulcimer" by NPR, and a "Force of nature" by NY Music Daily, Max ZT is an innovator of the instrument. Taking his roots from classical Irish folk music, Max has transplanted his compositional techniques to both Senegal, where he studied the Mandinko technique with the Cissoko griot family, and to Mumbai, India, where he received a grant to study under the great santoor master Pandit Shivkumar Sharma.

The dulcimer is my favorite, I grew up going to rennesiance festivals for my birthday and the music was my favorite!
Same here, Ashley! I love the hammered dulcimer and have since I was a teen back in the 80s and am bummed that this beautiful instrument, has not gotten more noteriety and acclaim. Carole Koenig, from the Narada record label, I believe, was my first introduction to this wonderful instrument. I owned a casset tape full of medieval, renaissance dulcimer duets that Carole did with a talented violinist. Haunting and beautiful music!
What a joy to see and hear to world coming to gether, is a welt of joy and happiness a round this world that we live in.

At the age of 70, I notice with the current occupant in the Oval Office, we are by far, an angrier, testier, more confrontational country. Such a waste and, a pity. Often when it isn't even necessary. How about we just enjoy the tap dancing and dulcimer??

messy? .. As a beginner student of music, I heard quite the opposite ...an incredibly complex rhythm, and both these guys didn't miss a beat, despite the irregular, shifting tempo throughout the piece.

Being a guitarist and a drummer, this is the perfect union. At the same time fulfilling my need for more relaxing instruments. Its time to bring this into more mainstream music.

You probably don't understand what the idea was and what the message was. I bet you can't do that so shush.

The tap dancing is rhythmically impressive, but looses the visual aesthetics of dance. Might as well play drums.

1. It is not from Persia. it is older than persian empire. Babylonian used it, and maybe even their predecesors.
2. It is not primarity used today for american and irish music. Slavic nations adopted it much more and it became part of their folk music, long before it reached Ireland, and before it reahed america. So learn about your instrument before you talk! Not to mention it is the part of asian folk music much more than american and irish. You have american (lack) of education, dont you?
You're wrong. Yangqin, the chinese descendant of the dulcimer means "foreign either". The Yangqin was introduced to China from the Persians as the Santur. The Chinese modified the Santur, making it bigger and changing the playing style slightly. The Cimbalom is a similar instrument used in Slavic music, yes. But the Dulcimer is mostly used in Celtic and American Folk music.
Sorry Michal, the American Hammered Dulcimer brought to the United States in the 1800s by the Irish and Germans is primarily used for American Folk Music, Celtic Music, the music of Northumbria/folk music from England. The Eastern and Southern European instruments (cymbal, tsimbl, cimbalom, cimbaly, etc) are all slightly different and are not the hammered dulcimer. The Persian form is believed to be the earliest form coming before Santoor (Kashmir) and before Yang Qin (China). The origin is disputed, and there is indeed a Santur that is found in ancient Mesopotamia, but it is widely believed to have originated in Persia. Additionally, dont forget that this is a 10 minute shared TEDx talk...so....can't get too deep into the disputed history...Thanks for your comment though!

@@michalviktorin6758 Well I wouldn't generalize since there are dozens of forms, each rich in their own worlds...They each have different names (Santoor, Santur, Cimbalom, Tsimbl, Yang Qin, Khim, Salterio, Hackbrett, and many others), come from different traditions, have different construction, techniques, hammers, musical styles, etc...As someone who has dedicated his life to this instrument, and have studied around the world, I am well aware of the beauty of its predecessors. The above talk however is about the instrument that I am playing, the hammered dulcimer.
