2:10 - 2:25 It's the same application from Motobu Choki's "On Kumite of Okinawa Kenpo Karate" book (1936). A lot of people forget Okinawa's unarmed systems were originally designed for close range strikes with takedowns like bareknuckle pugilism or the old version of boxing before sport kumite.

The first one is a good application but absolutely TERRIBLE for self defense. While your hand was down to block the kick your face was wide open for a lunging jab. Punches to the face are very common in a street fight/self defense situation. Protect your head.

I do not like the chatter of the crowd while he is showing the applications. He might be okay with it but it seems disrespectful to me.
disclaimer: I commented on my impression. Obviously I do not know how formal or casual this lesson/seminar/meeting was.

I like the demonstration very much. Especially Chil Jang pattern. I made 2nd kup just 1 day before lockdown and always wondered if cheycho chirugi was actually applicable. It makes more sense now.
And I need to practise even more. :)

@@pst5345 what is chechyo kyorugi? You mean applications of poomsae?
The Chinese visited only for that day and they are loud people. Usually his gym is just him with children and teen students and quiet.
At your gym what belt color is 2nd keup? Good on you for passing your test just in time before this stupid quarantine BS. What country are you in?
