3rd posituon is all brand new to me, and i've been playing harp for roughly 35 years (started when u was 3). This vid was very informative, and really perked my ears up. Thank you for the lesson! I cannot wait to try it! 🎸🎸🎸
Can you tell me why on the chart on the back of the Hohner box shows 3rd position being a whole step DOWN (Bb for a C harp)??? I’m only a month in so I don’t know. I understand why Dm is connected to C but I’m confused. Of course this same chart says the 2nd position of a C harp is F which I know is wrong 😂😂😂
It's hard to say exactly without seeing the chart but my guess is it says the opposite - song key of C means Bb harp, not the other way round. Same for 2nd position - song key of C equals F harp.
I think it’s easier to say that 3rd position is one step lower than the key of the song. If you are jamming and the band is playing a song in A, you use a G harp. If the music is in D you play on a C harp. 3rd is useful because almost every note on the harp is valid, that’s why the faster players like Jason Ricci use it a lot in minor blues. I hope this helps a little. Cheers! PS Dennis Gruenling’s solos on his tunes I want a woman and Stockyard Blues are in 3rd, check them out 😊

That fast summertime in the beginning was cool and inspiring!
the lesson was great as well, so thanks Liam!
I'd be for ever indebted to you Liam, if could do a lesson on Charlie Musselwhite's solos on I'm Going Home :)
Thank you, Liam.
You're very welcome!
