What an absolutely pleasant man. Always been a big fan. One of the cleanest players I've ever heard. His solos were always so perfect. Way more nuance than you'd expect when you tried to play them. So happy to see him still active and in the game. Great story teller.

I found the details on layering backing vocals back in the analog days, quite fascinating. By having all 3 of the backing voices sing in the same key, then repeating the process for each harmony part, what's created is basically a 4th voice (the mix down of the 3 voices) that we hear on all the albums, and on basically all of The Cars music. This "4th voice" is integral to The Cars sound and is very much missed when you listen to the solo projects by members of the group. Also, if we listen closely to those Cars backing vocals, no single voice can ever be distinguished over another, they all blend together seamlessly into one harmonious chorus like no other. I always wondered how this was done. Now I know. Thanks for sharing this behind the scenes production peek. Loved it. ✌❤🎶🤘🎸🎤

This is flat out brilliant. I"ve watched quite a few interviews with Elliot Easton in an effort to understand more about his playing, composition and general knowledge of music and bands. Lots of good videos . . but this. . .tops what I've seen so far. I remember Jimmy Vivino from his days on Conan O'Brien. (Seems he didn't like to wear shoes while leading the house band ) so you know Jimmy is going to conduct a solid interview based on his own musical chops and experience. Elliot is so generous with his time and willingness to share his craft. I've always been intrigued with how he came up with his solos on CARS songs. Now, thanks to his precise definitions, I get it. Well done Jimmy. And thanks to Elliot Easton. . .truly one of the finest guitar players in modern music. Watching this was a treat.

The coolest scenario of Elliot Easton is not on stage rocking out to each finely crafted note, it's his shoving off to the studio wearing black jeans tucked into black and white tall Cowboy Boots with graphics of musical notes. Then, loading a Strat or Tele into the back seat of a British Green Jaguar XJ6. The camera now pans to the car's (no pun intended) grill and the symbolism of the finely crafted Roll Royce style grill. (Royalty and Success). A big switch from being a kid visiting music stores and staring into guitar brochures dreaming away...

Very cool! Enjoyed this! As a huge Cars fan, any interview like this is a treat! Love hearing Elliot play and tell stories. He always is so fun and cool and gives a lot of great background. Interesting stuff and I learned a few new Cars facts too which is awesome. Thanks for having him on! He is such an amazing guitar player. He rocks! 😁😎

I hum his solos out lout all the time; they're so damned catchy and brilliantly played. I don't do that with many other guitars. Eddie, Edge and Elliot.

Hi. I was a teenager in the second half of the 70’s in the Boston area. Loved the Cars. First saw them early on in a great lineup - The Cars opening for The Robin Trower Band who I also loved being a Hendrix fan. I think the venue was The Orpheum Theatre in Boston. Thank you! And on another note, I had saved all concert tickets stubs back then. I went the concerts almost every week because I had money from a paper route. But now that I look at them, the torn half I got at the door, half don’t have the band name on them. Tickets were small, cost $7.50 on average and weren’t very well designed. I wanted to make a shadow box of 70’s concerts attended. I caught all the good bands. Bummer.

One more comment, I agree that Elliot's crafted solos were so impeccable all the time. Totally George Harrison way to play with the melody with nothing frivolous at all. " The Best" Donald Fagan of Steely Dan was one of my favorite writers also. As Elliot stated ,we learned all about "the hook" as bringing the listener into the transition giving the song magic. Example:Bye Bye Love with the late great Ben Orr singing sexy and passionately. Awesome !!

Great interview with an awesome human being. Not sure why you felt the need to sneak your politics in though.

Jimmy, such a great conversation with one of my all time favorite players, EE. Asking all the best questions, I was getting stressed as time was running out. I’m so glad and can’t wait for part 2! I’d really like to know if Rik played many rhythm parts on the records or was it all EE bounced down?

What made the Cars sound like a New Wave band were the tight arrangements; the self-possessed, almost cynical vocals; the icy, clinical keyboard sounds; and the soulful leads by Easton in contrast to the rest of the mix.

The Green Room is very psychedelic… not very green… I agree with the start… “life is different… not necessarily better”…
