  • Hello, my friends! Let's hit 15K likes? Check out my website! enderman.ch
Today I am going to prove you why you shouldn't download Adaware or anything from Lavasoft. I don't exactly remember whether it was a reputable name or not, but some of my friends and relatives had it installed back in the day. So please, uninstall Ad(a)ware (or McAfee, or Norton) from your computer if you still have them installed, they spread malware.
Still got questions? Don't hesitate, send them to contact@enderman.ch!
Hope you have a great day!

I think it's more than a theory. Back in the days before high-speed internet, before the days when malware could steal valuable data, what would have been the point of writing malware that just made your computer malfunction? The only explanation that makes sense to me is that it was to scare you into buying antivirus.

I have no idea how I got infected, but my computer had the McAfee malware for a while, along with some either weird "antivirus" program that would repeatedly say "YOU HAVE XXX VIRUSES ON YOUR COMPUTER". Of course, I never fell for it and my dad (bless his soul for being a coder and knowing how to handle computers) used the ACTUAL antivirus that he installed before handing me the computer to find the malware and get them off my computer. After he thought the problem was removed, we did a full scan, and there is no more malware to be seen.
I'm still thankful it wasn't giving me pop-up p**n stuff though and just stupid little "you have a virus" pop-ups. Those are so much more tolerable than pop-up p**n.

Not really, the only way malware could get installed with that program is if the developer (of the thing you are installing) chose to try to install malware. As a malware analyst (no, I don't work for any of the companies in question) I have no words to comment your video, so I'll just refer to business strategies for running free software (yeah, Adaware is mostly free, the fact they still exist is because they use Bitdefender's tech) and tell you that PUPs aren't malware (that's why they get treated in a different (than malware) way by any AV product)
the video you link to is even funnier, like look, you blame NortonLifeLock and McAfee for fake ads with referral links that'll make some revenue for the cybercriminals who put the ads
I really hate companies who put PUPs in their installers/on their servers and we have lots of fun crushing this garbage, but when your actual software is free and you still have to hire lots of people and pay for the tests (yes, of course participation in VB, AV-C, AV-Test or AVLab is paid), there is no other choice. Oh, wait, there is! Mine crypto on users' PCs, even better way to lose any trust

also it's not only Lavasoft who do bundling, same goes with Avast (their browser, VPN and some other services + dark patterns to make you buy the subscription), Panda (their toolbar), Qihoo (partially their browser - Opera) and Microsoft (here without your actual consent, Office/Skype/OneDrive with your Windows installation)
