- Hello World, السلام عليكم
This is another episode of my friend and I listening to the Quran read in Arabic, but discussing it in English. We cover the verses from 5:27 to 5:50.
Summary of these verses:
We kick things off with the story of Cain and Abel, about how God accepted the offering of Abel but not Cain’s which led to Cain killing Abel and committing the first murder. Which prompted the rules that the Children of Israel follow for not taking a life without it being for retribution, since it is akin to murdering all of humanity. We then get into some difficult verses about the punishment for waging war against God’s messenger and spreading corruption. Always keeping in mind that repentance and forgiveness is possible. We also see harsh punishments for thieves as well if they do not repent.
The verses then proclaim to the messenger that he should uphold God’s law and not listen to the whims of the disbelievers. That the messenger should rule with God’s written word across the Torah and Bible. These books serve as a guiding light and should be upheld firmly. We also learn that there are differences between the revelations and that they must be upheld accordingly. The messenger is asked to judge fairly on all accounts. These last verses prompted a debate between Safa and I about the purpose of these differences. What do you think?

Is hijab mandatory?
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity, and not to reveal their adornments1 except what normally appears.2 Let them draw their veils over their chests, and not reveal their ˹hidden˺ adornments
Thank you for your comment. From our perspective there is no evidence to suggest it is mandatory no.
Exactly, the command is to wear a Jalabbiyya and cover their pockets (Juyubihunna). We do not believe that meanse cover their heads.
You and I are reading the same verse but coming to two different conclusions it seems.
@@PreachARaba “O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [al-Ahzab 33:59]
@@PreachARaba “and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)”
