I like your video's very informative.. I had a question related to this.. My mare has been racing for 3 years now, her turns are great, very tight and quick and her first barrel is great.. But she tends to start strong and die out through the pattern (especially poles) she also rates very early to the last barrel or top end pole. I trail ride often and she loves to run in an open field but is slow and lazy and doesn't push at all running home from barrels/poles. Would love her to have more drive

Sarah, see my posts at www.BarrelRacingTips.com on "whoa and go" and the "lazy horse," you can search for them in the upper right corner.

I do touch it with my horse. But he still seems to be sluggish. He is healthy and is on a good diet. I know he can run because he does it at home and in the open field. How can I transfer the speed to the barrel pattern. I loose time between the barrels while his turns are nice and tight.

There’s a drill to help with speed in between barrels called Windows and Walls. You can apply it to all barrels, but focus on in between first and second. Starting from first barrel, gun it as far as you can go past second barrel in the straightest line possible. He’ll be confused at first but then learn to stretch out.
