A note about the scene beneath the toxic jungle, where Nausicaä lies down in the sand:
This scene makes me cry every time I watch this movie. Ever since the secret-plant-chamber scene, Nausicaä has been in horror of the fact that humans have poisoned the entire planet. (That's what she meant by "who could've poisoned the entire Earth?"; she wasn't asking "how?" but "how could you?") Now she is afraid that humanity has doomed not only itself, but everything else as well. She is without hope. But then, upon finding the petrified trees, she discovers that the earth is healing itself. There is HOPE, and the mistakes of humanity may yet be amended and forgiven. She's so happy, she just lies down and cries. This is also why she goes into semi-panic when the Pejite Mayor (who was played by Mark Hamill, btw) speaks of destroying the jungle with the Giant Warrior.
Oh, one more thing: How do I know all this, you ask? That Nausicaä, the horrified, fearful, despairing one? Yeah, that's me right now. Cheers.

Ok so to explain the child singing. The first scene you see and hear this are when the ohms see her heart and read her mind. The child singing plays for every time it has to do with her past and when she rescued the ohms. It was recalling that in the end scene as if to symbolize the fact she could save the ohm this time. It's symbolic and beautiful if you pay attention closely. And all the people in this are idiots because the world has died because people were idiots. No one knows how to care for the earth except naussica which is why she does what she does and saves everyone in the end. Her pure heart may be naive but it's just what the world needed to be freed.

This film was Miyazaki's passion project, and the message and themes present can still be made relevant today. Fantastic film.
    p.s. Nice video editing btw

I was raised by this movie and I'm very biased when I say that this is my top movie of all time. Every rewatch has given me goosebumps without fail, and it's the only movie I've genuinely cried at. HOWEVER, I do see your critiques and agree with many of them - including the infuriating nature of the other characters. Looking at this film with a less biased and more critical eye, it's blatantly obvious that nausicaa (and to a lesser extent lord yupa and azbel) is the only character with a shred of common sense. Despite this, I believe that it is in this way that the viewer is kinda forced to sympathize with her out of everyone, which really aids in pushing the environmental message of the movie.
P.S., the Giant Warrior is a stand-in for the atomic bomb (which makes sense since Japan's recovery after both atomic warheads heavily influenced Miyazaki's childhood.

I love this movie and grew up with it. I was disappointed to find your reaction a bit unfeeling - I feel like you took away from the film by not appreciating the character dynamics and themes he so masterfully illustrates. I get that it was annoying about the ignorant characters, but that's exactly his point - he's criticising human actions and short-sightedness and destruction. It's a film about human relationships with the earth, environmentalism and pacifism. This is the film that made miyazaki shoot to stardom in Japan and was (and still is) considered a film masterpiece. The music by joe hisaishi, who always writes for him, may sound a bit dated because it's from the 80s, but his music has absolutely enhanced the feeling of the films. Ps. Ghibli in 'studio ghibli' is actually pronounced with a soft g, like in giraffe. They mispronounced the arabic word when they created the studio, but the mispronunciation stuck. Pps. If you watch laputa, they did a terrible job dubbing that one (adding and changing music scores so that it changes the atmosphere from the original) so I recommend watching it subbed.

Some people just can't appreciate the in-depth themes of movies and literature. That's why a lot of people fail English class despite it being their native language. Personally, I could watch Ghibli movies every single day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it. My younger brother is the same way. It just speaks to a part of me like nothing I've ever experienced from any other movie director. As a woman, I also adore the way that female characters are potrayed in Ghibli movies; feminine, yet not weak by any means - they don't have to act like men to be outspoken, strong and uphold truth. Just beautifully done.

In my opinion, I don't think this is necessarily an environmentalist or pacifist film. Where is such a thing depicted in the film? There are only people living in the harsh natural ecosystem, the people who compete with it, and the conflict that never ends. No terrorists, no ideological conflict. Everyone suffers from this environment, and everyone tries to improve it and falls into war and destruction, because of the greatest decayed world that once perished. It depicts a human being living in the ultimate harsh world. All about this is tribute for humanity, just symbolized as nausica.

Watching Nausicaa made me realize this film with its visuals, soundtrack, story, and character roles, was the inspiration to classic Final Fantasy games and Zelda games, specifically Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom (they both feel so Ghibli).

Mizayaki's movies are very particular. He was an ancient communist and shows the world he builds through political lenses kinda but he always says that his movies are dedicated for children. I grew up watching his movies and let me tell you, it kinda radicalized me in the sense of caring for each other, understanding pretty young what capitalism is and gave me a deep appreciation for Shintoism and respecting other creatures.
Miyazaki HATES anime, he says he creates animated movie and wants nothing to do with animes. He hates the pedo culture and the insane sexualized character. He just wants to create stories that will maybe enlighten some kids and it's amazing !

Every film of Studio Ghibli has deep theme like Nausicaa. But there is not only theme which is like human fully but olso love and bond. If you wanna watch happy and light one, i suggest ''my neighbor totoro'' and ''Ponyo''.
I like your reaction. Please keep it up😊 I'm looking woward to watching your reaction to castle in the sky because this one is also amazing.

Nausicaa not letting princess Kushana die was the right call.
If Nausicaa let Kushana die in the burning plane, or somehow let her die in the toxic jungle, Nausicaa and her folks returning to her valley without Kushana would've been problematic. Highly likely Kushana's men would've had an all-out fight with Nausicaa's people, and it would've been a giant mess.

I really like this movie but I like Princess mononoke much more. every movie of Mizayaki talk about human's being stupid and ruin the environment, what by the way we still keep doing now so...maybe it's a good thing you are angry. it wakes you up in a way that yeas we have a problem! we RUIN the earth! and unless we do something, it won't be solved.
    I appreciate your reaction ^^

It would be nice if you would pause the movie when you go on your rants. You missed a lot of important dialogue and moments because you're too busy talking.

    • @AbhiOnCamera
      @AbhiOnCamera  Рік тому

I’ve thought about it, but right now the time I have to record is short. If I paused every time I wanted to talk it wouldn’t be able to finish things in one sitting.
So I do my best to keep up by reading captions while talking.

@@AbhiOnCamera You could definitely do that, or you could add text about your thoughts on the screen in a thought bubble rather than always having to talk. Sometimes this is better too because it gives time for you to think twice about what you wanted to say and maybe to even add some more information that you forgot to mention! Either way, great reaction! You're very perceptive and I enjoyed watching you wrap your thoughts up around the narrative! I'd love to see more Ghibli reactions from you :)

Just saw your reaction and I like it. Human fighting human for the last pieces of clean land they can have. Meanwhile, the forest continue her job without caring about political opinions.
There is 7 Tomes of Nausicaa as a manga. The movie treats and modifies largely the first 2-3 tomes. There is way more to that, more plot, more inner understanding. Where does the forest come from ? Does really no human found why the forest is there ? Where does this gliding stuff and tech comes from REALLY while everything is made of wood, metal and we see no electronic nor specific chemistry. I really loves the manga (even if it's really retro looking). The story is really peculiar besides all these human war and infuriating decision we see xD

The voice acting and translation is horrible. Better off listening in Japanese with subtitles even though the subtitles are also not accurate
