  • VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda TAILGATE GAS STRUTS
    In this video I show you how to remove old pneumatic gas struts and re-fit with new pneumatic struts fitted to the rear tailgate of a Skoda Fabia MK1 (99-07) which are similar to other VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda models

    I wish you'd do a video on replacing the whole boot lid - your instructions are very clear and easy to follow, some of the best I've seen! 🎉

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  4 місяці тому +1

      I did that once on my own, which i wouldn't recommend as it is quite heavy and I scratched the roof a little doing it, so be warned. I used a garage with a high ceiling and attached the tailgate suspending it with rope&pulleys. Two man job really, both have to undue each side in a controlled manner and then lift off carefully. I will add this to my list of video to do, thanks :-)

    • @pspr33
      @pspr33 4 місяці тому +1

      That's good to know as I was tempted to try it by myself (without pulleys) - obviously not knowing the weight of the boot lid!
      Out of curiosity, do you think a boot lid will fit inside the car that needs it replaced? I could save money if that was the case 😅

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes it will as that is what I did, but don't ask me how. All I remember is it fit without any problem, just remember to protect your car and the tailgate. The glass makes it heavier than you think, but not too much if you have a bit of muscle :-)

    just did this and my neighbour happened to run by and, basically the spring appeared 1 cm too long, and I could attach one end.
    He pushed the trunk slightly passed its limit and the thing attached, but, this wasnt stated anywhere.

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  День тому

      Not sure what you mean about the spring being too long by 1cm unless as you installed it it didn't fully engage and stuck out. @1:55 I mention about lifting the tailgate slightly higher to engage it and you do need to make sure you obtain good quality unit of the same length and it's vital the power rating is correct.

    My gas struts failed and guess... I came look for a Harvey video. Thank you. All the new cars should come with a DVD or internet links that show the owners what to do in simple repairs. It should be mandatory by law.

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 роки тому

      Yes I agree. As long as they direct them to HBH :). I believe It is best to repair older cars than keep buying new ones :-)

    Is there anyway to shorten the height of the tailgate for short people by adjust and shortening the struts on a 2008 vw tiguan? Thankyou

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  2 місяці тому +1

      Good question. Possibly fit shorter struts. I don't know if these are available on a fabia, but I would like to think they are. Try searching for shorter Skoda fabia struts. Alternatively you could fit some kind of tube clamp on the strut so it doesn't extend so much or lengthen the strap. Hope this helps :-)

  • @danthurston1
    @danthurston1 3 роки тому

    any idea how to adjust the pressure, ours is too tight and you have to lift it open

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  3 роки тому

      The struts are tailored to the weight of you're model of car, or should be and are none adjustable I believe, but some are better than others.

    Are these the ones that fit to mk6 golf gti and pop it open

    • @HatBoyHarvey
      @HatBoyHarvey  4 роки тому +2

      No, look similar, but you need to buy ones specific for the pop open feature and code the control module for the car to work. They have springs inside and use modified studs/bump stops. :-)
