when I first came out I told my sister to tell my mother because I was ashamed, after 3 years of being gay I finally had the courage to let her know and she was about to pass out she told me to go to church and pray and that it is not normal,my father doesn't know , I've never heard anyone say those kind of things.

A few months ago, my friend came out as bi and started dating another girl. Many of my friends were gay/bi, so it was normal to me. However, i started questioning my sexuality, and it was a really hard journey. My mind didn't want me to be anything but straight, and when i thought i was bi, my brain was like "pick a side". I was so caught up in the whole thing i literally made myself sick for several days. However, watching your videos has really helped me, and i have finally come to terms with my sexuality. You especially helped me realize that bi people don't have to have 50/50 attraction to men and women. I figured out i have a stronger attraction to women. You've really helped me and i wish i would have found you earlier. Tysm for all you do! You make such a big difference on so many lives! (Sorry you had to read a whole novel 😂) happy pride month! 🏳️🌈

I’ve been a closeted lesbian for like 2 years now and watching your videos has literally changed me as a person for the better! I came out in march to my friends and April to my parents, and now everyone has been soooo amazing and supportive. This was such a great refreshed video. I’ve been told mostly “You don’t look gay” even by other lesbians and bisexual women, “You haven’t found the right man”, “You’re too good looking to be a lesbian”. And additionally, whenever I’m single and they ask me if I’m married? No. You have a boyfriend? No. You have a girlfriend? No. Then they ask why am I single? And my response is usually cause I’m an ass-hole and I go about my day. This happened to me a lot when I was in the Army and wore civilian clothing in the base. Sometimes they assumed that I was just a military spouse because they forget that women serve as well. It’s a crazy world but I get a good laugh from time to time.
i mean if you dont laugh, you cry 🙃 woman have such a hard time, and then add being gay on top of that! this is why days like today matter, and just educating people in general. thank you for sharing ur experience, im sorry its been this way, i relate to parts of it too.
When I came out to one of my friends they were like:" Oh, i imagined you were gay, you've always liked war movies and that kind of stuff". While i did understand they did not have hurtful intentions, it felt wrong. It's like you claim to know somebody is queer because of a stereotypical behavior they display, or you think they display. And of course stereotypes do not help acceptance and are mostly negative.
I've come out as lesbian to all my close family and friends and all of them told me they werent surprised and had a feeling/knew it. This didnt really bother me cause they're all very supportive and I'm very proud to be gay, but one of my family members did say "well you haven't been around many decent men so you cant fully know" and she didn't mean it in a bad way but that one comment made me doubt myself a lot and really messed with me. I still sometimes have doubts, but deep down i know I'm gay, and I'm very happy and proud to call myself a Lesbian :))) 🏳️🌈
I've also found that once I've come out to somebody they have a barage of invasive questions as if they're suddenly entitled to my whole experience coming out, dating and how I knew or seeing if my gayness is valid

I'm not really out to anyone except close friends and one of my cousins but when I came out to my cousin, it was by telling her that I was going to an affinity group (she's also LGBTQ+ and she was going too). She said back to me: "Really? But you're the straightest person I know." She apologized right after the meeting and everything's fine now but it really hurts when someone says you don't look gay or something along the same lines, especially someone close to you.

Personally this doesn't affect me. I'm pan, ace and poly, but you wouldn't know any of those as I never talk about lgbt stuff with people or bring it up. Lots of people know as I've dated men and women (I'm a man) but a majority doesn't realize I'm a part of the community. So when they say you don't look, or act or seem that way, I just go meh, there's no look to it. My coworkers always joke though as there's two lesbians, two gays, one straight and then me about being halfway there and stuff but I love those light hearted jokes.
I've heard alot of 'I wish they didn't shove it in our faces' and 'Don't make your life about your sexuality' these were said by my hetero Mum and sister by the way 😅
My sister once said to me 'I don't go around introducing myself as straight' People just assume' Moral of the story is... Come out and say no more 😔
I knew my (sort of) daughter was gay, not before she knew but definitely before she told me so when she told me I said “I know” then we hugged, a lot. I love her and I just want her to be happy but the world as it is now makes that difficult sometimes. Although, when I think back to when I was her age the problems she would have faced don’t bear thinking about. Change comes slowly and education is the key so just keep doing what you’re doing.
im so glad she was comfortable enough to tell you, must feel good to have that bond. yes the world is pretty scary right now, but as long as we keep being there for each other we can make it through 🌈
My friend once told me ‘I miss the time before all this gay stuff’ and my other friend agreed. I felt so hurt and cried about it later, I’m 13 and am not 100% sure yet, but I’m so happy I came out to them because it really helped my mental health but if they say something like that it really hurts. I’d just like to know if that was f*cked up of her. (English isn’t my first language so excuse the grammar)
It was very much fucked up. Maybe you should consider talking to them about this.

The "It's just a phase" is just so harsh. You don’t just wake up feeling gay one day and then decide to tell everyone. If I thought it was a phase or I wasn't sure, I wouldn't have told you, like people don't understand the process and how mentally exhausting it can be.
I feel like parents sometimes are supportive up until their child comes out and their opinion can seem altered. I've heard it a few times before from lgbtq+ poeple coming out to their parents and how their parents are fully supportive but are worried when their child comes out to them. Sometimes they mean well but it's kinda strange sometimes
Great video. I am a teacher and also a father of a 14-year old girl. I've always been very vocal about fighting any sort of prejudice, and this video helped me seen other things that could sound disrespectful. I do one have one questioning though.
About the last one. Of course, I really think it's stupid that people think that one is LGBTQ+ just because they "didn't find the right man/woman".
But... I am married to a woman, I've never been attracted to a man, but when people ask me if I am "straight" ( I don't really like this term, to be honest), I always say: " So far yes, but I don't know tomorrow".
I mean, for me, it doesn't matter. I raise my daughter to look for a nice person. Gender it's not the key factor. She's very open to us, for her, the subject is natural. It's not even something to be "talked about".
For us here at home, it's like discussing about "why the person is wearing a green T shirt?".
So, what I mean, is, a person can be attracted to a girl, and someday meet a boy and get attracted too, no?
Just to exemplify. I know it may sound silly, but as it's something that really touched me, I think it can be used.
I've always hated the colour yellow. Like, really. Never had any piece of anything. Until one day, a long time ago, my daughter painted (at school), a Yellow T shirt for me.... I love that one...
What I am trying to say is, isn't LOVE, something that you feel for a person, not just gender?

You have a point. What you are describing is how a number of people find out that they are actually bi. People might at some point in their life meet someone who they didn't expect to be attracted to. However, I don't think that this is the problem here. If that were to happen they could just start to identify as bi.
The reason why "you just haven't found the right person of opposite sex yet"/"are you sure?" is problematic is the immediate distrust in / objection to the LGBTQIA+ persons revelation about themself. The first reaction to a coming out being "yeah, I don't believe what you are saying until further evidence / you convinced me".
I don't even understand why someone else should be "conviced ". By the way, my daughter is attracted to both boys and girls. She never "came out" 'cause she knows that we care about character. We talk about relationships and so, and she says about girls, boys, and it's absolutely normal.
@@rodwinter5748 Of course your daughter never "came out" to you. She didn't have to. You seem to have made it clear from the start that whatever person she were to choose was fine with you. Coming outs are much more of a big deal with family members who have never considered the possibility that the person coming out might be something other than cis and hetero.
To your other point: Some people you come out to won't go "is that so, cool" and move on. Some will instead insist that you don't know what you're talking about or that it's just a phase. Of course, nobody needs to convince them that you are who you say you are. Them not believing you doesn't change who you are. But being constantly disrespected is going to hurt.
So, I am glad that your daughter doesn't have to go through this with you :)
@@Rey-2517 It hurts me to think that we still have people who "don't accept" and is willing to hurt and offend others.
My current wife (my daughter's mom), isn't my first (although we are married for 19 years now). My first wife recently was able to do the hormonal treatment and change alll document. He is a trans man now. A lot of people asked ME how did I feel about it. Well.... I was happy for him. He is a nice person and deserves to be happy. People really thought I'd feel angry or ashamed.
So... there was a time (2 years ago), when my mom and mother-in-law were talking about him during lunch (for they knew him for a looonge time). And they kept refering to SHE/HER, My daughter interrupted them and said: It's not SHE/HER , it's HE/HIM.
They replied: Oh, it's just that we are talking about a time that she was a woman.
And my daughter said again: It doesn't matter. Don't say SHE is a man now. Say HE was a woman then.
I was very proud of my girl. She is very vocal about defending what's right and fair. It doesn't matter whom you are talking to, elderly or boss. If it's wrong, you should point it out.

I remember watching you like years ago maybe when I was in like 3rd grade so around 4-5 yrs ago, I’m happy you’re doing well, I’m also happy you could “show me” what the feeling was I had, I always knew I like women and men, people in general. but I didn’t know what it was called lol I’m now bi/pan (not sure which to use because they’re a lot alike so I’m still kinda questioning,) asexual and gender-fluid, I’m very happy with myself and although I’m not openly out because I’m not in a healthy environment but you honestly comfort me I always remember/ed you helping me lmfao
I'm aroace and bi or lesbian (not sure about that). What shall I say? "You're too young to know", "You just havn't found the right one yet", "Once you try, you'll love it", "Are you sure, there isn't something wrong with you?", "You should see a therapist about that issue", "Everyone loves sex. That's a nessessary part of a healthy relationship" are only some examples of the a*spec-coming out-bullshit-bingo. And then, like every time you tell somebody about being asexual and/ or aromantic you basicly need a whole Powerpoint presentation, because nobody knows and understands what those actually are. No, I'm not broken, no, I'm not a prepubecent child, no, being ace doesn't mean you're also aromantic nor does any of those two mean you're emotionally a stone.
I don't view myself as particularly stereotypical gay but somehow people's gaydars are switched on at my sight. I don't know how a suspicion around somenone's sexuality shall work without them telling them about their queernes and stereotypes.
I’ve heard like 3 of these. I love your videos, they’ve had such a huge impact on my life. You actually inspired me to come out to my family. My grandma said stuff like “you haven’t found the right boy yet” and “are you sure?” at first, but all in all, my family supports me warmly, and we now watch a LOT more queer content than before. I love watching your videos, some of them are very helpful in my process of telling my crush I like her. I have a good feeling about it! Please keep doing your thing, and feel fortunate for gal pal, the two of you are so cute!
Ooh the first one I have so many mixed emotions about. I'm trans and ... to be honest when I first started accepting that and coming out I really wanted someone (maybe just one person) to say "I thought you might be trans". I won't say it's healthy to be looking for that kind of external validation but it's hard not to want it. I guess there's more healthy replacements though - just accepting someone is trans when they come out to you, asking how they'd like to be treated (what their name and pronouns are, for example) feels amazing.
"Are you sure?" - oof haha. Yes I'm sure I've only spent hundreds of hours (at least) considering it from all angles.

Um I really hate it when people jus say “ it’s a Phase “ and when they question the sexuality.
Cuz I really hate that the most.
But also when other people , do quickly judge you before they get to know you.
And they quickly assume what gender you are jus by looking at us.
But also not allowing us to use the women’s washroom , jus bcuz of what we look like.
Cuz I’m a woman too , but i jus don’t feel very comfortable when in the men’s washroom.
But I really do wanna use the women’s bathroom , but I’m jus scared to be judged like whenever I’m in there.
But I’m overly sensitive like when someone quickly judges me.
For people who are striaght questioning their sexuality:
You can ask some people who are apart of lgbtq+ how long it took them to find out. Some people will say that it only took them like a month while others can take years. All you have to remember is that nobody is the same just take your time and don’t stress over it because stressing can make it worse.
I am Pansexual and Transgender. It took me about 1/2 a year to figure out that i could even be close to being apart of lgbtq+ then the rest has just been a journey! Yes things will change so don’t be afraid to be open to changes. It has been about 2 years now since i even started thinking about it.
Just take your time and don’t fret ❤🏳️🌈❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

The amount of people I had say to me "Wait, you weren't gay/bi?" after I came out to them, I swear.
Sometimes it was funny, sometimes it stung a bit depending on the delivery.
Imo it's a funny thing to say in retrospect, but that should never be the first thing that comes out of your mouth as a reaction. Especially if you don't know them well.
Don't just assume people's sexualities because there's a lot of queer people in a friend group either 😮💨
There is nothing wrong with being gay. Why does gender still matter when we're all equal?

Btw, about the first ting mentioned. When I came out to my bf as bisexual, I was worried about his reaction... But then he just smiled to me and said he already knew it, cause my feelings for *one specific woman* were very obvious to him since the beggining of our relationship. And I was soooo happy to hear that and see that reaction, I was happy that he understood me and accepted me as a bisexual before I understood and accepted myself 😃
And later I came out to my mother. She still doesn't have clear oppinions about lgbt stuff and doesn't understand most of it, so she was just curious and kinda confused and asking questions about what it is and how it works, she didn't judged me or got scared at all, and that conversation with her was kinda funny, since she is a boomer and grew under the rock when it comes to lgbt+ things (We live in Serbia, where homosexuality was illegal since the late '90s, and still is a big taboo)
I'm a lesbian myself and I've been guilty of saying "yeah, I kinda knew" is the past to someone coming out a couple of times (because sometimes, it's very obvious that a girl isn't into guys and is having deep crushs on other girls). I haven't done it the past 3 years though because the last time I sid it, I felt that it was the wrong thing to say, even though the person didn't say anything to me about it. So that was that.
The thing is, I still like when new people tell me "I knew" when I come out to them. It makes me feel like it's less of "straight assuming" world and that they understood and paid attention to me. Is something wrong with me?

Yesterday in school, (Im trans but like girls) they were talking about trans gender, someone's story on it i felt uncomftable (not cus the topic) cus i knew someone would point at me saying that im trans and they did and yup i felt uncomftable. But that teacher was nice and saying that you cant see someone's gender just by looking at them
How we feel to be comfortable and more time to be safe and trusting each other of changing the relationship the person

Hey Lauren ❤️ thank you for this video. Coming out LGBTQ has been hard, but also felt like freedom. Even though I’m in LA, It’s still a process and saying harmful things like that isn’t really helpful. Your videos have really inspired me to feel more open about my sexuality. At summer camp one time, very inclusive of LGBT people, I told a non-binary person that I was gay and they said something along the lines of “you don’t look gay” and that still to this day kinda hurts but oh well negative experiences happen

For the first thing I get it when I came out to my mom that’s exactly what she said and what confused me the most is that she said she new since I was 7 years old I came out around 14 years old so I was really chocked

It’s really up to you! Do whatever you are comfortable with. If you think you’ll feel better by letting them know you’re questioning, then do that 💖 but if you think you’ll feel better telling them when you have a more solid understanding of what you might be, then wait.

ugh that sucks! we never had much stuff to do with lgbtq education/support when i was in school, so despite kids being idiots, its nice to hear that ur school at least put some flags up! 🌈
My school hung up a pride flag made out of sticky notes (which took a long time to make) and some girl ripped it down 😭💔

I get it if you are attracted to females and you are happy it’s not others business. At the same time I have met girls and they said, I had enough of guys and I am sleeping with girls . You see in this scenario they have chosen to be with girls purely for other reasons not just because they are lesbians. In this case we can say “ they haven’t met the right guy” what do you think.?

hey thats okay, take your time. you don't need to know right away.. let it take its time. those things don't necessarily make you lesbian. if you have romantic/relationship feelings for girls, that's how you'd know.

For some reason I don’t love that it’s homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia coz I feel like homophobia can encompass phobia for all lgbtq+ sexualities but when u include biphobia it kinda sounds like u aren’t including other sexualities (i.e. pansexual, polysexual, omnisexual, asexual, etc.) but maybe that’s just me
