You can’t say Justin can’t be good then say go get darnold. Darnold got to his third team after almost being a bust but we can’t give Justin the same opportunity with a competent organization? Thats hypocrisy at its finest
Fields was taking huge strides as a QB, W/L ratio was up. TO Ratio was almost zero. Passing was getting better the more comfortable he got. Every year he's been in the NFL he's had terrible lines and no weapons, This is also the first time he's had a competent coaching staff. He's had 3 head coaches and 3 OC's in 3 out of his 4 years
The coaching staff watched him in the games he started and every day at practice. After seeing all of that, they opted to go for Russell Wilson. That says as much about Justin Fields as you would need to know.
@ that is a lie. It’s widely known now that most in the org including Arthur smith wanted fields to continue and Mike Tomlin alone wanted Russell to play so that is false. Mike specifically said he went Lone Ranger meaning he was alone in making the change.
@ This team started to fold like a cheap lawn chair at the end of the year because of exactly what Tomlin did, the vast majority of the organization was happy with keeping Fields at QB. When they started to lose with Russ, they no longer had the willingingness to fight for a man who made an executive order when it came to QB. as he so eloquently put it " that's why i'm highly compensated"
actually the bears did Justin fields a favor by trading him to the steelers, Ryan poles said they got some pretty good offers for fields but they honored fields by letting him choose where he wanted to go... so the feelings were mutual, steelers wanted him and he wanted the steelers
Why would they give Russ another contract for mediocrity? They said last year, Russ is going to be a mentor to Justin Fields. Russ was supposed to be the starter from the start but he got hurt. He got healthy and then he got his job back. I believe they’re going to move forward with Fields next season.
Hell, yes, they should keep both quarterbacks the quarterback position this past year was not the problem. It was the entire offense. They just don’t have enough weapons at the receiver or RB position to compete on a consistent basis for a Super Bowl I mean look at their division, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and even Cleveland have better weapons overall than the Steelers do.
@ bro, who are they gonna draft? They are in the 20s when it comes to drafting a quarterback, and most of the people who were the experts are high on are going to be taken within the first five rounds Russell, Wilson, and Justin Fields are fine where they’re at what they need is weapons on the offensive end? You say I sound stupid but don’t you even look at their roster outside of the quarterback and say they’re not good enough try watching their games try actually paying attention dummy.
Idk why they didn’t stick with Justin field.. who loses their job going 4-2. Russ can be a good back up atp in his career but he is not a starter. Russ may have another year or 2 at being decent but the Steelers are not in position to win the superbowl in a year or 2
Why the hell would pittsburgh sign up for another year with a washed no good russ? Fields was more productive and had zero turnovers with a better win percentage, let russ test the market and you'll see exactly what he's worth lmao
Tomlin probably thought that. He even bragged about making the big bucks after making that change. Tomlin loves being slightly better than mediocre, it's job security for him
He started 6-1 playing solid ball. Took the offense from 20pts to 30pts a game. They lost to the top teams when the defense heavily regressed with a terrible offensive line and minimal weapons. Upgrade the receiver room and offensive line and give Russ options the offense will fly
You can’t just conveniently bring up Russell Wilson’s record over the last 3-4 seasons to fit your narrative. His overall record is 115-72-1. If you don’t know you better ask somebody. Justin Fields is 17-32. I digress. Additionally JF said himself before Russell Wilson took over that he didn’t perform well enough to keep his job. Nuff said! Russell Wilson just needs a better Offensive Line and some receivers who can get separation because at the end of the day lack of receiver separation + bad offensive line protection = poor QB performance and that goes for any quarterback point blank period!
Doesn't matter. The O-line is below average & were terrible in big games. Fields is a better salary cap choice but neither he nor Russ is getting them to a SuperBowl with that line & the way their defernse collapsed in the 2nd half of the season
Justin Fields was 4-2 and 1 turnover. Russell Wilson was 6-5 with 5 interceptions. Can you imagine if Russell Wilson was 4-2 and 1 turnover, and Justin Fields went 6-5 w/ 5 ints😮? The media would've destroyed Justin Fields with that 6-5 record and turnovers
They made the change because Fields can't and want throw the 🏈 down field! Justin is a 4yr starter in this league so you do know what he can or can't do!! And actually Mike time table is the same and Wilson two yrs and both are gone if it's me!!
Well depends on the money and what fits with resetting the OL , the receivers and replacing/augmenting harris first. These guys are replaceable. Doesn’t matter who they start nfc north is humbling at best and soul crushing at worst.
