Hi Richard, Carla here from west Texas in the USA , I am so glad you put the music score from 2017 thats the first thing that lured me to start watching your vlogs and course I will still continue to watch your vlogs without it if you decide not keep it too, I appreciate the way you break the information down to where I can truly understand and put it to use ,thank you so much

Old plastic would make some good storage structures, lash together roundwood with wire is a low cost easy method I’ve been wanting to try. Wire can be used for bracing too.

I have 1m of snow here in Austria and important is that the sidewalls are not in a bow style but rather in a vertical shape for the first 2m of height. The inclination of the bow above and a sunny day will cause a snowslide and the polytunnl is clean again. So it is a self-service system! The important thing is to keep space for the snow on both sides...

Polytunnel info has really helped with plans. Because of my goal to spread out the chicken fertilizer, I had been considering a moveable tunnel/hoop house. I guess there are several ways to use large and small polytunnels. My uncertainty comes from inexperience. Thanks for the detailed video.

Richard: for your disk issue; get [agar agar] it’s a sea vegetarian, you can find it in organic stores but will be cheaper in Indian or Thai or Chinese market . Don’t eat it raw, must be cooked before boiling point, it will heal you very fast , you won’t believe it’s power for all joints and back. See UA-cam for cooking recipes of it ...it’s neutral no smell no taste,,, Also, bones brought will do magic.

So, the chickens will go out in the chicken tractors in the spring, and that tunnel will grow tomatoes. Will you repeat the process the next year, or move the chickens to a different tunnel to condition the soil? If you do use the same tunnel, will you grow tomatoes again in subsequent years, or switch to a different crop? I was wondering if yearly crop rotation is necessary in this kind of arrangement.

Hi Richard, its really a good information. Roughly what’s the cost per 10,000square foot polytunnel, today in Sweden? Thank you in advance!

We learnt the hard way once with Polytunnel and snow; we now have 4 x 2 timber uprights propping up each hoop in all the tunnels even those with crop bars as there is a weak point where they are bent; also as the larger tunnels are 'flatter' on top a little gentle heat helps to shift it off the tops but you should take the time to clear it from along the sides as the weight can put pressure on the sides of the tunnel too

Thanks for the recommendation Richard, much appreciated.

How many birds you have in that tunnel?
You keep saying that good steel is key - however it is good design where truss forces are distributed well and span between hoops is properly sized. Most of collapsed tunnels do not have cross bracing system as your has thus leading to truss failure. Obviously your vendor did a good job.
Thanks for your videos Richard - they are really valuable.

I would love to see and learn more about your litter system in the tunnel. I only have access to straw and pine shavings and saw dust in my area, that is cost affordable.

how was the humidity in your greenhouse when you had chickens there in the winter time? I have ca 300 chickens in the greenhouse for the first year, the film is frozen inside, and when it's + degrees outside, the ice melts, and it's like it's raining inside. I finally opened the windows and added a fan... but the film was still wet or frozen inside. Greenhouse is 6x20m and I have a deep bedding about 30 cm...
    Is there any solution?

Very informative video, thanks. Can you tell me the breed of hen you have that lays so well over winter? 80% is a fantastic yield for winter!

With the smaller more semi circular tunnels the snow falls off much more by gravity than with the wider flatter topped ones

We have bought all our tunnels from First Tunnels and I agree with your comments re customer service without hesitation BUT when we lost our first tunnel 50mm hoops were bent like a giant had come along and trodden on them....I have the pictures!!

What is the black fuzzy stuff on the steel in the big tunnel? Looks allmost like the the steel has mold on it but I guess there has to be a more reasonable explenation...

The rope idea is fine in theory Richard but be careful what type you use we also have a telescopic window cleaning implement

As always I'm grateful for the video you put out. The information and knowledge that you choose to share, for free, is in my opinion absolutely vital. I'm curious if you've looked into stem cell therapy for your back? There have been some pretty amazing developments in the last couple years. Thanks again for all you do. Cheers.

Isn't a sphere the perfect shape? Rounded polytunnels are the strongest shape. We make ours out of galvanized tubing that is 1 5/8 inch diameter spacing the ribs 3 feet apart. Like you, we have never had a problem with snow load. Thank you for sharing.

I've often wonder how they keep voles from killing their birds in the night? Wouldn't they just dig under the plastic?

    • @2barbreak

Voles are herbivorous, the concern would be Fox, Badger and worst of all Pine Marten.
