One of the most stylish Mopars I've ever seen. Lots of luck with it!

I enjoyed seeing your old Chrysler, I love the style, and the interior, you have to restore this baby, very nice car. I have a 31 Model A Coupe.

What a WONDERFUL car! So happy you are going to restore it! You're right the Mid to late '30's cars did take an awful beating, then many were scrapped or hot rodded (especially the Coupes - very sad) Anyway, PLEASE post update videos. It will be really exciting to watch it come back to life!

I started working for a friend in his wrecking yard in 1968. He had a 1936 Chrysler Imperial coupe that looked a lot like yours. Straight 8 with 3 speed overdrive transmission. He sold it to a friend and when his friend quit making payments, my friend took the car back and sold it to a car collector. My friend started his wrecking yard in 1953 at 11 years old and still runs it 5 days a week. He is a big fan of 1939 to 1947 Dodge trucks with a few early Plymouth pickups. He has driven a 1940 Dodge 1 ton flatbed since 1957 with a learners permit with his dad at first and still uses it daily. He also has a 1940 Dodge 3/4 ton he has driven daily since 1959. He had a 1947 Dodge 5 ton he has driven weekly since 1969. He has several others that are used in the wrecking yard only. They all still have flathead engines and 6 volts. He has several of the Dodge 413 CI flathead sixes with dual carbs and dual exhaust. His wrecking yard is mostly antique cars and trucks with a few modern cars he has gotten only if they were free. He also owns two 1940 Dodge fire trucks. He has appox 20 parts trucks. His yard is located in American Canyon California between Napa and Vallejo. He has been in business now for 64 years.

Your car is epic in its own right. What a cruiser! May you enjoy your time with it. Somehow it even looks like it wants to be out rolling the roads. This car has some kind of presence.

Lots of imperials from 1939 but almost no coupes, april 1942 they stopped car production by order. Your car is great, nice piece to restore - I love it too.

I can't remember the last time I saw a 30's Imperial anywhere. It may have been one at a show in Bennington VT many years ago. Love to hear if any progress on this one yet?

He's absolutely correct about the WW11 production cease, and lucky to have a car, especially a well engineered vehicle like an Imperial 😇

The US got involved in WW2 on December 7 1941. Car production was stopped in April 1942 and remaining stocks of cars on dealer's lots were put into bonded warehouses and rationed out to essential workers like doctors and veterinarians. Your Imperial was a fairly late model, 4 years old at the time. But 3 gallons a week of gas ration wouldn't take you far with that big straight eight motor. Chances are the car was put into storage and replaced by a smaller car for the duration. After the war new cars were in short supply until 1949. Would be interesting to know the history of the car. I suspect in the fifties and sixties it was just another old used car. You are lucky it was stored away and kept as good as it is.

Actually, there was some automobile manufacturing during WWII. However, all of that production was for the military, the federal government, and high priority civilians like doctors and rural mail carriers.

I have a 1949 Dodge Meadowbrook. All original 56,000 miles. I've had it 27 years. I am the second owner. It still has wax pencil writing under the hood on the firewall.

This is a good looking car! Did not know a 2 door imperial! Now for the big question. Do you have the missing piece of trim for the front body spot between the hood and passenger door?

  • @zone47
    @zone47 2 роки тому

I wouldn't do anything to it but clean it up and put a little air in that right rear tire. Dump some Flex seal on the seat, get it running and cruise around for a while, maybe take it to a car show or something.

Feb 1st, 1942..final date of civilian auto production. And tires were near impossible to buy(other than black market that is). Resumed late 1945.

I would restore the interior but keep exterior original.. I think one crankshaft is hollow (fluid drive?)and solid on manual model. Chevrolet did it this way(p-glide,etc.).

nice car but it would look better with the front and rear bumpers brought in closer to the body. I doubt the original engine could keep up on any freeway.

From the way you're talking, it sounds like you're not going to butcher this car. It sounds like you want to put it back together the way it ought to be. It breaks my heart to see butchers hack up a cool old piece of history like this and turn it into a dragster or a low rider lead sled.
It didn't matter so much in the 60's because cars like this were cheap and plentiful, but now they're getting so scarce, it seems like the right thing to do is to preserve the ones that are still around. They're incredibly cool just as they were designed. Not too many people besides Jay Leno can throw hundreds of thousands of dollars into a full restoration, so the survivor approach is also a cool way to go.

Please Please dont make it into another crappy rat rod. Please give it some paint and upholstery, give her back her respect and your pride. You can allways put a Mitchell overdrive in the drivetrain. Theres way too many excuses for lazyness using the ratrod excuse. What a rare and beautiful car. It doesnt need a body off resto, but just sand it, paint it, re trim it and any chrome thats far too gone. Please dont spoil it. It really is a thing of beauty.
