Wow sweet video! I never really cared about ships or romance in videogames until Dimitri & Byleth came into existance, it's really baked into canon so well that I feel it as canon. For example, he's the only lord to not need Byleth for a selfish goal, like how Rhea wanted them to regain Sothis, or how Edelgard wanted them desperately to win her war/conquest & how Claude wanted Byleth to uncover secrets & use the sword of the creator, but Dimitri loved/cared about her genuinely without any alterior motives, in fact he's the only lord who tells her the reason he's at the monestary in part1, the other 3 (Rhea, Edel, Claude) never do until very late in the game. He's the only lord who has exclusive scenes with Byleth, from what I remember; one before the goddess tower where he himself invites her to the tower, the other after Jeralt's death which in GD/BE Alois is the one who comforts Byleth, while only in BL there's no Alois, just Dimitri comforting Byleth. The parallel between them in part 1 & 2, she's the cold hearted woman who learns from him to be more empathetic/warm & the warm young man who learns again from her how to regain his compassion/kindness. In the opening cutscene between Byleth & the lords he immediately asked her to come back to the kingdom with him in their 1st meeting. How he came to Byleth in a dream in Silver Snow indicating both of them think of the other, how sad he was facing Byleth in Crimson Flower, it's just so well done. No wonder it's the most popular ship in the east & probably 1 of if not the most popular in the west considering how much fanfiction & art they have. Edit: September 9th, 2020. 2 days ago Dimitri managed to win the Voting Gauntlet (Brave Reprisals) on Fire Emblem Heroes by a big margin against the most popular characters that were voted in the CYL contest earlier this year. He won against Claude & finally won against Edelgard, which is very hard for male characters to win against female characters, FEH is all about the waifus but best boy managed to win! Popularity is not everything ofc but it is a good thing when a male character who was really well written wins a contest mainly for waifus.
thank you capable stranger for putting all that together!! ❤ seeing these reversals, subtle details & foreshadowing really goes to show how much effort they put into the writing. A lot of symbolisms too, like Byleth being the light/sun & dimitri being the Darkness/moon...and for some reason, even though edge of dawn is edelgard's pov i cant help but see the lyrics also fit between dimitri & byleth....i mean look at all the reach for my hand reference haha... also, id like to add to your analysis, in the ending arts for each route, Azure moon/blue lions ending mural is the only one wherein byleth is there. (except.ofc in SS) but there is no byleth in VW or cf ending art. That's a great detail they put and goes to show how much Dimitri needs & is grateful for Byleth. (ive never been so passionate about a ship before, kudos to the writers huhuhu)
@@Harvestmooncow13 oh you're right, I didn't notice the ending art in BL being the only 1 to feature Byleth with their lord, pretty cool! Also the S support for Byleth where she says "marry me Dimitri, I love you" is just so cute, not to mention how they both had a ring for each other at the same time, the other lords didn't & honestly had less romance. Also they actually married in their end card, had a child & were desperately in love. It's just too sweet lol.
that's a wonderful analysis! that's how I saw them too. I originally played as mbyleth since i want to romance mercie as mbyleth on my first BL run, but dimitri's interactions with byleth made me restart just to change my gender 😂
Chris Hackney is so talented, that subtle difference in voice between pre and post timeskip Dimitri is fantastic and I don't remember noticing it in anyone else. Also the difference between post time skip mad Dimitri/redemption Dimitri is excellent
Edelgard's voice is the same way. Pre-timeskip, there are glimpses of the girl she longs to be - just a normal student, a normal girl, with a normal life and friendships. Post-timeskip, her voice carries only the burden of who she has to be - the red empress. In her own route, there is more hope and life in her voice, but it still carries the weight and strength of her still-difficult road.
I don't think he was joking when he said he wished they could be together forever, he didn't want to make a promise he couldn't keep and he was worried that he made Byleth uncomfortable hence why he apologizes, Dimitri is obviously in love, plus the Goddess Tower scene ties into the story line too
agreed. I really love how if you choose to marry him, his wish of 'being together forever' is fulfilled but this time he doesn't have to hold back & is looking forward to living because he's not alone anymore 💗 the writers really did their work.
The godess tower parallel is...wow. He talks about how the godess doesn't extend her hand, shows Byleth do just that and then he says people refuse to take it, and he turns away, love it.
Edelgard is every bit his equal imo, if not better written, but to deny the depth of either character would be a disgrace, so I very much agree with your sentiment.
@@SophieGirl2001 That's a rarity. Most people hate Edelgard blindly. I'm glad your friends and you recognize her depth for what it is, though, whichever character you prefer.
This perfectly summarizes why I think Byleth and Dimitri are meant to be together. If you play through AM, there is no way you physicially can marry someone else who is not Dimitri. It feels like Byleth/Dimitri is canon. Just as much as Azure Moon feels like it is THE one story line that dominates all in the game if you ask me. It feels the most like a Fire Emblem game. If this game only had one route, I'm pretty sure AM would have been the one, it feels completed the most even though it leaves countless things unsaid and unmentioned.
That is actually true, as the developers said BL was created as the rightious path & as the traditional path that covers the story of a blue lord from boyhood to king, he's THE blue lord of the game, he gets invaded by the evil red empire, loses everyone including his kingdom & lives for years as a fugitive only to regain everything in the end while trying to give the villain a chance for acceptance, it's mostly the same story as Marth, Leif, Roy, Sigurd, Seliph... His story is complete & tackles the main villains; Edelgard/Agarthans without ass pulls villains like *cough Nemesis or mad Rhea cough* & that's why Dimitri's story is complete, contained, the entirity of part 1 is about the BL/kingdom & the only 1 where we kills every last Agarthan & not allowing the javalins of light to kill ppl because we killed Arundal before he could act, while CF doesn't kill any of them, in fact help enable their dreams & GD/SS leaving Cornelia AKA the worst Agarthan alive to revive the group. Even when u look at the other paths, CF is very short, has the worst writing by far & was added last as a budget path, SS is confirmed to be the foundation path in part2 after they created part1, SS is good in concept but needed Rhea to be playable & should've had the final boss Nemesis face the Nabateans/Rhea not GD where he is literally an asspull there. GD is unfortunately a copy of SS, it even had things that imo belong in SS like Nemesis fight & Rhea's lore dump in the end. GD should've been a very unique path that tackles the Almayra/Fodlan conflict with each other instead of Claude doing the same thing that Seteth does in SS but saying racism is bad for 50 seconds in part2 to never really act to change it. This game needed more time imo but what we got is great.
@Bailey Law yep Claude deserved way better tbh even his real name was dropped silently in an interview lol. Anselma is a pos through & through, what an ugly character to be willing to kill her husband who saved her from the empire! Kill a 13 years old kid who loved her immensly as a MOTHER he never had, to the point he refused to believe she was the 1 behind the tragedy when she actually was! She & Cornelia both planned to assassinate these innocent ppl including her husband & step son, Anselma was riding with them in the carriage KNOWING that they are going to their death while she will be protected, but never said anything? She just watched them get killed? & for what? Besides why kill them, why not just fuck off to the empire to her daughter? Lol the whole Anselma thing is very weird but 1 thing for sure is that she is extremely evil to the core & poor Dimitri loved her dearly & kept denying that she has anything to do with the tragedy even when she did. I wish IS at least provide more details in an interview, art book or whatever lol.
The bond between Byleth (regardless of gender) and Dimitri is overwhelming strong. In fact, it's a deeply binding thread throughout the Blue Lions story line; to point where marrying anyone else just feels wrong. Once you realize that Dimitri doesn't recover after war, that he still heavily relies on Byleth and her support... Knowing all of this, I can't stand the idea of leaving his character being with anyone else. As I know he won't share a similar bond. Plus the romance is simply amazing. Unlike Claude, whom teases you and dances around the idea of loving, and while Edelgard's crush is more apparent... Her S-Support is downright awful. This is why Dimitri shines so brightly amongst the three lords. He is painfully obvious with his boyish crush, to the twisted emotion of discovering the Flame Emperor's true identity and the following spiral into self-loathing. Which leads into Byleth reaching her hand out and their victories. Finally it concludes with Dimitri admitting his feelings. Clear and sound. It's perfect.
Crippling co-dependency hardly makes for a good relationship. Not to mention that Byleth will likely live indefinitely, meaning the really only good marriage choices are Seteth, Flayn, Rhea, or Sothis.
@@michael9433 it’s not crippling codependency, byleth helps Dimitri heal, therefore Dimitri being grateful. Dimitri falls in love because Byleth was the one who helped him and never gave up on him, and well, he most likely already had feelings for byleth before the time skip. In their epilogue card it states “until the end of *their* days” I think it’s safe to assume that they die together
This video is proof that Blue Lions is the best route narrative-wise. It carries so much more emotional weight than the other routes, and actually makes you care because Dimitri is so solidly written a character, plus the fact that the Kingdom sort of becomes the underdog in the war (besides the Alliance), and doesn't really get far until Byleth is able to teach Dimitri how to be human again. Speaking of, I appreciate the dynamic between Byleth and Dimitri so much more now that I realize he dies in pretty much every route except Blue Lions because Byleth isn't there for him, especially in Golden Deer when we hear that Dimitri is killed in battle because he refused to retreat, ending up a slave to his maniacal desire to kill Edelgard.
When I played BL I was dead set on marrying Sylvain or Felix while I went through the Academy phase, but the way Dimitri and Byleth interact is honestly so good that I felt I had no other choice but to choose Dimitri for the S support at the end. It just feels natural.
yeah azure moons plot is basically just building an emotional bond with dimitri so it’s the natural conclusion, to the point where it’s kind of jarring to not be able to marry him as m byleth
ahhhh I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed how the ending parallels the reunion. It was such a heartbreaking scene, yet also so beautiful since Dimitri now stands in the light. He wanted to redeem Edelgard, just as he had redeemed himself with Byleth's help. Honestly I think my favorite part about that scene was how light was outside the door and people were cheering, it's the end of the war and everyone is filled with joy except for them, and Byleth doesn't let Dimitri walk back to Edelgard, and they walk together into the dawn
omg i think i saw your comment in another video somewhere about the lighting and camera angles used in these cutscenes!! seeing that analysis inspired me to compile these!! I never get tired of rewatching the cutscene because every time i do, i notice subtle details.. and ofc thank you for the analysis! (wouldn't have made this if i didn't see that comment from the other video)
Ah man on my play through with BL I originally intended to S-Rank Felix, but all the chemistry between Byleth and Dimitri changed my mind as I couldn't separate them (they are meant to be, at least that's how it seemed implied in the story). FE did a fantastic job with his character and Byleth's relationship compared to other characters.
A brilliant video showing their parallels! Nicely done. Another one which doesn't really have a scene is where Randolph calls Dimitri the One-Eyed Demon if you pit the prince against him during one of the chapter battles. It could be said that this is an allusion to the fact Dimileth are seen as inhuman due to how they fight and kill; after all, Byleth's alias is the Ashen Demon. Given that the Blue Lions route is the only one in which the lord truly addresses the Avatar's emotional growth, this parallel is rather telling because it suggests that Dimitri and Byleth help each other feel more human in and of themselves.
omygosh yes!! sadly tho i didn't have enough clips at the time but for the ashen demon/one eyed demon part i was gonna put the time when Dimitri called out byleth for having not much regard for the people they killed (after the Lonato rebellion) Honestly i had more missed parts I might make another video for that (i mean if anyone still cared to watch 😂) you're totally right about the emotional growth of byleth. the most emotion ive seen in byleth is in azure moon...especially in the ending when she stopped him from looking back
Oof, I just can't get enough of these two together! The way that they support each other with mutual trust and respect which then grows into something more! My heart!! Thanks for the montage.
Ugh, im looking for all compilation of parallels regarding dimitri And here's the thing. It's so many, and felt so natural that I'd have to replay all of azure moon/supports of side characters to get it. Father figure, redemption of Annette's Dad v dimitri, dealing with loss/purpose of byleth v dimitri, Marianne's mental issues v dimitri, Felix's anger/fear of the boar/monster, unable to do one's duty/responsibility (again Annette's dad), duty for one's self v others, survivors guilt/PTSD, loyalty v blind loyalty (felix and ingrid), cycle of violence etc.
Dimileth Sucks! I guess they never be canon together because Dimileth it's abusive for now on Byleth loves Rina (my oc) and Dimitri loves Alaina (me) at Dimitri and Byleth they are enemies now i really don't like Dimileth is toxic on my opinion
I used to prefer mbyleth more (and thus love Dimitr x mbyleth) but when I realized I couldnt s support him as mbyleth, I restarted just to change gender :( Now, i dont care anymore what gender byleth is I ship them no matter what!!
HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE DIMILETH THEYRE LITERALLY SO PERFECT dima brought the emotions out of byleth and Byleth showed so much compassion and kindness to him. They’re literally so wholesome. I’m so soft for how sweet they are together omg. Also bless Chris Hackney for his performance, he brought Dimitri to live so well and he’s our CEO of dimileth 💖💖💖
:3 ty for making this, and this was part of the reason that I fell so hard for him, the way he interacts with her goes to show how much respect and trust they have in each other
Not a Dimileth parallel, but the final battle is a big one. Dimitri sees himself as a monster through most of the path but with help from Byleth and the others, he recovers as a strong leader. Edelgard uses her Crests to literally become a monster in the final showdown, thus losing her rights to be considered a true leader.
I don’t know if this has been noted yet. But unfulfilled (the song that plays in dimitris reunion scene) usually plays the melody of edge of dawn which is sung from edelgards pov. But specifically for the end of azure moons cutscene the last notes change into piano and strays away from the edge of dawn melody. Signifying that dimitri has finally moved on past his trauma and hatred for edelgard
played azure moon as boyleth (was my second time playing; 1st time i went as girleth and did ss), fell in love with dimi, was super excited 2 marry the shit out of him........ dimi's lines barely change whether u play as boyleth or girleth, which makes me kinda disappointed that u couldn't marry him as a dude. such a miss. definitely gonna have to revisit as girleth
I wanted to do Male Byleth x Dimitri on my first run... wanted to marry him so badly (least we got Manuela, but still)... Oh well, I'll play as Female Byleth when I re-do my Blue Lions run so I can finally marry Dimitri. (And recruit every single person in Garreg Mach)
@@Nod_Lucario update: married dimitri twice 😈 recruiting everyone's gonna be my next goal. i'm so lazy tho so we'll see if i actually follow through haha. good luck with ur endeavours!!
Hey I noticed this yesterday but in the mission where you fight Sylvain’s brother, when he attacks he says verbatim ‘kill every last one of them’ and I’m pretty sure that’s some kind of foreshadowing
What a shame... Too bad I picked male avatar instead of female in my first and current playthrough. Woulda paired them up together for the full experience.
that's fine too! Their platonic relationship is also nice enough on its own. I always used to play as mbyleth too (i like his design better than fbyleth), but im glad i switched genders mid game just to be able to s support him
@Bailey Law Avatar is a blank slate and he's a good guy, he's a good marriage pick but he's got little personality. I wish he was more of a fully realized character while being the stoic silent type as he already is.
I really, really hate learning how much of the story is centered around these goddess tower scenes when I was playing male Byleth. Didn’t even realize the S support convo was supposed to be the game’s ending scene because I didn’t want to choose anyone but Dimitri so I stayed single and was confused and put off by how abruptly the game ended. Mind you I’m only playing the game now for the first time because I refused to play it at release-based on the poor accommodation for gay male players, after feeling so stung by the forced heterosexuality in Awakening.
Dimitri: The Goddess would never offer her hand... Byleth: *is literally at this point Sothis incarnate thanks to their souls merging* *offers her hand to Dimitri* Me: Hm, what was that about Sothis not reaching for peoples? X3
same thoughts...i prefer mbyleth's design actually. I started BL with mbyleth but i felt so much bromance with Dimitri that I literally restarted just to switch genders to be able to s support him XD

Dimitris voice actor is so damn good
Asure moon would be a great movie
Or a good anime. I think Azure moon would be most fitting for an Adaptation, because of the emotion, writing and Story
Glad you liked it ❤ i love the build up of their relationship in azure moon
the whole reaching out your hands thing!!!!! so symbolic and soft and just the exact thing that I EAT UP!
This summarizes why I love their ship so much, I love them so much
Thanks for putting all this together!
im sure i missed some other foreshadowing & parallel scenes but im glad you liked it ❤ this is also why i love them
Ugh, im looking for all compilation of parallels regarding dimitri
And here's the thing.
It's so many, and felt so natural that I'd have to replay all of azure moon/supports of side characters to get it.
Father figure, redemption of Annette's Dad v dimitri, dealing with loss/purpose of byleth v dimitri,
Marianne's mental issues v dimitri, Felix's anger/fear of the boar/monster, unable to do one's duty/responsibility (again Annette's dad), duty for one's self v others, survivors guilt/PTSD, loyalty v blind loyalty (felix and ingrid), cycle of violence etc.
Dimileth is canon and no one can change my mind
Dimileth Sucks! I guess they never be canon together because Dimileth it's abusive for now on Byleth loves Rina (my oc) and Dimitri loves Alaina (me) at Dimitri and Byleth they are enemies now i really don't like Dimileth is toxic on my opinion
@@w-cosmujerbyorganics.6980 Nice bait
I'm barely halfway through and I'm crying GOD I LOVE THIS GAME AND THIS ROUTE
*M!dimileth shippers crying in the distance*
This. All of this. I love how so many hints are well hidden but still very easy to see. The subtle story telling here is great.
1:34 bro im actually mind boggled right now this games writing is amazing
I did not miss these. It's why I can't resist romancing him. It's also why I just skip all cutscenes in any route that's not Blue Lions.
:3 ty for making this, and this was part of the reason that I fell so hard for him, the way he interacts with her goes to show how much respect and trust they have in each other
I never noticed some of these myself. Nice video.
I’m flattered that you love me so!
How to make an azure moon fan cry in less than three minutes
This is literally why I ship them!
me too 😍 glad to know you have the same reason hehe
Dimitri is best boi!
my eyes sweating
azure moon is such a beautiful story 😍
Not a Dimileth parallel, but the final battle is a big one. Dimitri sees himself as a monster through most of the path but with help from Byleth and the others, he recovers as a strong leader. Edelgard uses her Crests to literally become a monster in the final showdown, thus losing her rights to be considered a true leader.
Best of the game❤️ Never thought a game could give me so much goosebumps...
Oh Dimitri is definitely the sweeeeeeetest boi in the world
has anyone notice the s-support of dimitri and byleth background music? is different compare the other s-supports
Why is he the best character?
Because he exists
"Parallels you might've missed"
0:42 Dimitri literally reminds you of what it's a parallel of
played azure moon as boyleth (was my second time playing; 1st time i went as girleth and did ss), fell in love with dimi, was super excited 2 marry the shit out of him........ dimi's lines barely change whether u play as boyleth or girleth, which makes me kinda disappointed that u couldn't marry him as a dude. such a miss. definitely gonna have to revisit as girleth
YEEESS YEESSS IM CRYING
Hey I noticed this yesterday but in the mission where you fight Sylvain’s brother, when he attacks he says verbatim ‘kill every last one of them’ and I’m pretty sure that’s some kind of foreshadowing
yeah...it feels weird when i hear it from someone else that's not post ts dimitri. maybe that's where dimitri got the line from.
I fucking love azure moon so fucking much
Why oh why did I not choose Dimitri for the Goddess Tower scene, especially when I S-Supported him
I didn't because I thought I would S-Support Felix.
Byleth: *is literally at this point Sothis incarnate thanks to their souls merging* *offers her hand to Dimitri*
Me: Hm, what was that about Sothis not reaching for peoples? X3
*sigh* Why do I always pick male Byleth.....
same thoughts...i prefer mbyleth's design actually. I started BL with mbyleth but i felt so much bromance with Dimitri that I literally restarted just to switch genders to be able to s support him XD
He should’ve been an option for M!Byleth
i always prefer picking the male over female just because of personal reasons
I'm not sure why but he just feels better in cutscenes for me lol
I enamour Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd.
