The goats sleep under the church, not in it. The buildings are blocked from entry by goats and people.
I've (dry) camped on the island. It's beautiful and interesting. The goat herd greeted me on their morning walk down the road.
That lake is connected to the alabama river. You can put a boat in and go to and from the river.

Sometimes private properties/parks will have abnormal speed limits like the one you showed here. Its often done to catch your attention and because they legit want you to watch your speed. There was a random place in Eastern Ohio I remember seeing the speed limit is 8 mph.
No doubt, this place is super cool. Although it's only about a 25 minute drive for me, it might as well be a million miles away based on the complete change of scenery. Glad you enjoyed it....but those goats do indeed roam!!

What an amazing place.
You should come back in the spring or summer. Right now it is closed because of a tornado that came through but they are working on getting it back open. My husband has friends who have fished there and he hunts near there. It is such a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing it.

Yeah, that’s a bit high for primitive camping. We just camped at a state park for a lot less.

Hi brother, how do I go about camping there? ,I mean, is it first come, first served? Do you get a camp assigned to you. Do pick your own site? Can you call ahead and make a reservation? How is the cell phones reception? How is the WiFi? Can you get TV reception?
I had to call them, I believe it is first come first serve. Honestly dont recall how good or bad the reception was, but it's a short term stay so I would keep the visit to a sightseeing visit.

The owners of this are pretty dumb. They could fix those up throw some furniture in it an rent it out as B&B what a missed opportunity.
Um no. They are prop structures, not real buildings. It's a movie set that has been preserved for exactly what happens there now. Visitors who appreciate it for what it is. The structures have false walls and are unsafe to walk inside, let alone inhabit even temporarily. I will say this though. It's an awesome thought, the idea of staying overnight in one of them, and maybe once nature takes its toll and finishes off the rest of the buildings, it would be cool to rebuild the whole town just like it was in the movie, and THEN offer them as vacation rentals. But as they stand, they are in no way able to be used for that, and to destroy them in an attempt to make a profit, would be a shame.
