So… there’s no 0 timeline. The starting dialogue with Ink wakes it pretty clear. XGaster *tried* to make something, but he literally had no ideas, so it was just the three of them in a field of flowers.. probably forever. But after Ink showed up and showed them what other AUs are like.. that’s when timelines started to happen. More characters, more things, more.. everything. All ideas basically copied from other worlds and modified. Basically, XGaster is a true fanfic writer :P So… his journey is.. weirdly.. relatable?.. Like, *all* writers put their characters through absolute hell to make a story more compelling! And the fact that XTale is so popular and engaging kinda proves his point. The problem is.. usually, your characters don’t feel like real, actual people that you can physically interact with. So it’s still really, really effed that he’s *this* willing to go through with it. Like, dude, *at least* hesitate longer, you freaking psycho! Smh
That's the thing. I basically thought the same thing, up until xGaster said he didn't create his Chara and Frisk. So either they spontaneously existed in the void with him, or they came from somewhere. ... Or it could just be a plot hole. 🤷♂️

So the initial XTale premise is two brothers Chara and Frisk with their.. caretaker?.. XGaster. Who will create everything else. Otherwise, it's a completely empty world. ..or at least that's my understanding. There's never actually anything implying that the Overwrite power *wasn't* something he was born with. So.. it was probably "given" to him by Jakei herself, so to speak. Seeing as she *is* the creator of XTale. So... Speaking narratively, she created Frisk, Chara and XGaster. Then Ink showed them all other AUs and XGaster created everything else. But since XGaster didn't create the brothers, he, as was said, can't make them forget anything, unlike all other characters. (Please, don't try to make Sans into some kind of weird super powered character, he's the same as everyone else. The only reason he knows about XGaster is because Frisk told him. He just wanted to confide in someone to feel less lonely.) If you're confused about some other minor details of how XTale works exactly, feel free. Jakei gave XGaster the power to create. - Speaking of creations, Frisk and Chara seem to have been created alongside XGaster, they're all equals in a sense, but XGaster's ego made him think they were less than him. - Also, X!Sans doesn't get the name "Cross" until much later, so you'll only hear characters calling him Sans for now. - During the whole series you can see how differently Frisk and Chara react to XGaster's actions. Frisk resigns himself, he thinks there's nothing he can do, so why even try? While Chara is always more determined to put an end to things.
What Ink meant in the beginning was that he was talking to the audience and about the creators of the multiverse/the fandom moving on with their creations. It's a interesting thing to talk about here.
Stories where a creator is dealing and messing with a real, living world are always amazing and XTale is a good example of this. I’m looking forward to seeing the Airier reactions to the rest of the series. Also some notes: Timeline 0 wasn’t really destroyed or anything, it was just X-Gasters first attempt at making a world for himself, X-chara and X-frisk before he saw the multiverse. I’m pretty sure the doodle sphere is filled with papers because AUs are the result of writing and artwork, which can be made on paper. X-sans doesn’t know what’s going on first hand, X-frisk confides in him and he finds out, this is kind of a running theme throughout the timelines
I love the Undertale fandom for this specific thing as well: that there are so many variations of timelines and AUs and characters and its really fun to see how far these creations can be entwined, tangled, stretched and reformed. It really does fascinate me. Its also why I love Ink as a character too in that he is basically the motivation all creators want and need when in any fandom and the fact that his one major fear is the fandom dying and him being forgotten is so meta but also is a drive itself to some creators to keep the fandom alive because of how these characters feel alive to us in a way. Its a really good look in depth on creation and storytelling.

The biggest examples are the creator of underswap and i think even the one of dream and nightmare but she might have come back i think. Or other nice one like flowertale,gztale or abisstale.
Honestly stories like XTale are some of my favorite to see people react to. After your done with Underverse in general, I would highly recommend reacting to The Thought, Underplayer Comic Dub, or even the Aftertale Comic, and the FatalError Comic which is only slightly necessary to understand the newer episodes I believe. The Xtale animation came out right after 0.4. the Xtale comic came before all of the animations as far as i'm aware, but it focuses exclusively on the last timeline from Xross Sans point of view, so it is very diferent to what the animation shows and i'm not sure if It's 100% canon, it still could be a good complementary read for the last Xtale animation.
