- One of the best-selling edutainment titles of all time, and for good reason. It's awesome, awesome, and awesome. Awesome. Now try to get that TV show theme song out of your head.
Play Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego for the Apple 2!
www.virtualappl...
wait...so THAT'S why we had that almanac in my house growing up. We had the almanac, we had Carmen Sandiego but I never knew the 2 came together
I was about to suggest this game, but then realized there is a handy dandy search bar on your channel. So glad to find this. Man, I barely remember this game. Used to play a later version on the old Apple in the school library. I was too young to really get it, but I remember having fun anyway.
Thanks for doing these, edutainment games in school were really my only contact with computers for most of my childhood. I feel so nostalgic right now :)
we didnt have the oregon trail here in australia but i played the shit out of where in the world. love it :)
Which would make sense, as the former was based on a time in US history.
I actually beat this game back in the day on the super Nintendo from a rental place that didn't include the booklet.
"Right turn at Albuquerque"? Is that a classic Bugs Bunny reference I hear? xP
By the way, enjoyed this video immensely, LGR.
Well, then Carmen better be in Scotland!
I had Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego? I loved it even though half the time I couldn't figure out the clues. I had to ask my parents about pretty much everything. But I did learn!
Just played and beat the original for the Macintosh on my Classic II. The internet makes these games a LOT easier than they were back in the day. You just have to remember it was programmed in the 80's, some of the information has changed
The opening in this game reminds me of the intros to the pink panther movies and its subsequent cartoon series
Tiny clothes pins, that's why.
I got so good at quickly looking things up in that world almanac by playing that game.
A brand new version was also released on Steam
I've always loved Carmen Sandiego, the game shows, the cartoon series, but never actually got to play or see the PC game! Thanks for uploading! Your videos are totally friggin' awesome!
Sweet! I do not have many memories of these games but you do have a lot of reviews that trigger all sorts of awesome nostalgia. Was brought in months ago and always await new videos!
This is how edutainment should be done (in the 80's). First of all a game, then find a way to teach. Elsewhere it is just a tool which kids see right through. Great game.
Love this channel so much! So nostalgic! I played the original on the Tandy!
I remember playing Where in Time is Carman Sandiego and having no idea what was going on. Maybe if I could actually read back then, lol.
Oh yeah, me too. I had to ask my parents constantly about the double entendres and puns.
I remember playing this when I was in daycare. We had one apple computer in the whole building. It was enough to tide me over until I could get home to play MegaMan 2 on the NES.
I remember I had "Where in Time Is Carmen San Diego" when I was a little kid. I actually managed to get through most of it up until the Inca level, where I got lost since I was too dumb to go on the internet.
3:02 Yes. One must allways first wiggle a floppydisk to ensure it flops properly, before inserting it into the drive.
god I love the theme song
I remember this and the gameshow! Also, Acapela still performs!
I challenge you to somehow find and review a copy of "Where in North Dakota is Carmen Sandiego?" Yes it does exist.
DO IT, ROCKAPELLA!
Loved this game.
Tigerrre 5 years later you beat me to it.
I had this on my Apple II GS one of my first games ever and most favorite
Carmen Sandiego turned my floppy disk to a hard drive
+Kingpin Suited I see what you did there :)
If you see a red sign at the back of the mall that says "ELECTRONICS STORE" it's the--

Radio Shack, baby!
I'm runnin' down my Radio Shack batteries
Can't use my calculator, or even worse my vibrator
I've got me a computer, it's as big as a whale!
My floppy disk gets hard at a Radio Shack sale!
I don't got a life, I don't got a lady
I'm a dork! My best friend's a TRS-80!

'Cause the new catalog came in today!
Love the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy reference.
Man, so many memories.
Nice to see Phreakindee givin' the Apple II some love. And what's this I hear about a IIGS review in the works :) I'm thrilled to hear that. My IIGS review was the first review I ever really did and it bugs me to death all the other stuff I should've mentioned in it. Good to know it'll be given the special treatment soon.
For some reason I felt nostalgic and searched for more LGR UA-cam content on "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego". And then I found and watched this video. Then I decided to finally (sigh) visit www.lazygamereviews.com ... wait ... what??? Oh man I love the site. Come on! Seriously?! Why don't more peeps do it? Now I feel even more nostalgic. Kudos dude. Kudos.
I rembember watching the childrens game show on PBS in the 90s.
I always wondered: The Dective Agency ACME is delivering the Coyote? ;-)
And this is the last video I missed.
I just literally watched all your videos.
3:58 LOL 😂 Clint you’re so silly!
I have this game complete with box, manual and almanac for the commodore 64, its rad.
Anyone else remember where in time is carmon sandiego
I can hear that time chronometer thing go off in my head and know I went to the wrong time period. lol.
I'll do you one better; what is carmen sandiego?
I don’t even know how many times I played through that as a kid
Steal her soul in South Korea, made Antarctica cry uncle!...
God dammit LGR. Stuck in my head again.
I'm still waiting for the Carmen Sandiego movie, starring Catherine Zeta Jones.
i had a remake of this game on windows 98 my sister and i used to play it all day it was great with full motion video and everything i never realized it was making me smarter
I freaking LOVE Rockapella!
Loved the tv game show as a kid
I used to watch the game show all the time. It was great.
I had a class in middle school where i was required to play this game on an Apple II
The class had nothing to do with video games or computers.
i remember playing the crap out of this game in 2nd or 3rd grade circa 1993 on a apple II at school. God i feel old..
I played this game in elementary school. Oh nostalgia
I got really good at quickly looking things up in the World Almanac with that game.
I played and beat all the Carmen Sandiego games that were available on the C64. Where in Time was my favorite.
+saturnotaku Same, played it on my XP, until I lost it somewhere. Ahh, good times.
I myself grew up with the 1996 version with FMVs of Lynne Thigpen.
"A Dark Day in History" with a picture of the Twin Towers. I know that wasn't the intent, but man that looks bad in retrospect.
What's that 9/11 country song? "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?" Where was Carmen Sandiego?
I don't know about yours, but my mis-spent youth was mostly spent on Where In The World, Prince Of Persia and Monty On The Run. Oh, yeah, can't forget Wonderboy. Yay for the Apple IIe at school and the Commodore 64 at home!
THE WARRANT!
Dammit, that damn song is stuck in my head now!
Boodapesht. Anytime you can say that word is ace in my book.
I had where in the world is Carmen Sandiego for the Tandy 1000 in the early 90s
Really looking forward to your review of the IIgs...
@Clint. Have you tried any other versions of this game?
@Everyone:
Happy me, happy you. The 85 edition is freeware! Download available on abandonia :)
Please cover the 1996 PC Version by Broderbund Software, it's really nice and a part of my childhood hehe : )
We had to play this in primary school, as a competition just our year, I sucked big time at it..
Oh man, I loved this game as a kid. Had to play it with no almanac though T_T
You know Where in the world is carman sandigeo was also a game show on WGBH BOSTON And WQED PITSBURGTH featuring Rockapella singing Where in the world is carman sandigeo (1992)
Adam Porter I know that
There's a rumor that they are actually thinking of making this a movie. I knew it more for the game show.
Carmen sandiego: 24 edition.
Play as jack bauer doing whatever it takes to capture carmen before whatever plans she has is finalized.
With a innovative system to *convince* suspects to give jack clues and a 24 hour time limit.
*scene shift with 4 screens and a clock showing 00:00:00*
The Apple II disks for "World" and "USA" Carmen Sandiego say "for Apple II +/e/c." They are both 64 K, so I think an Apple II older than the "e" might need some kind of memory expansion to run it.
I recall beating this many times back in school and at friend's without an almanac... A favorite on the old school computers and an excuse to play games while at school, ehh that trail game. LOL
Haha
some nostalgia
@LGR Did you check out the Netflix version yet?
Great review mate.
A lot of my friends never tried to play fair. They would just enter info until they got a random warrant for a random criminal then arrest some one ASAP weather they were right or not. I preferred to get all my clues in line until I knew who the crook was then Chase them until they went to America where I actually knew the clues.
I was waiting until you did a review on this. Finally I can rest easy :P
2:40 You can tell that's an old game. (Pre 9/11) The old World Trade Center (AKA: Twin Towers) were depicted in the back of the box.
dude..i was playing this game way back in the 80s...lol
***** I know some people that consider anything released before 2010 as being an old game... Logic is a subjective matter...
q306005 I met a few kids who said Borderlands 2 was old.
5:38 mentions the Soviet Union still existing. That is the mark of a *really* old game.
I played a later PC version of Carmen San Diego so much that my Almanac was virtually disintegrating. It's one of those weird games where you can't quite put your finger on why it's so addicting - it just is. Funny thing is that I hated Geography with a passion when I was in school.
Speaking of Carmen, have you seen the Netflix show?
Seen it I’m in season 3, Its a shame that it ends in season 4 meaning i have 2 season left
But i have heard of a spin of series in development on Wikipedia
Great review!
Fun fact: Netflix made a cartoon based on this franchise:)
Fun Fact: the Netflix cartoon was the 2nd made as there was one before it back in the 90s by DiC animation.
@@bmhedgehog2 Circling that are two game shows, the aforementioned Game Shows based on it, and the one based on the game's sequel, "Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?"
I see that the girl on the PC box is holding a 1985 almanac. Does this mean you can use any almanac that in the year 1985 and up to play the game?
As far as geography and the names of countries went, any almanac published in the years 1977-1989 ought to be fine (only real major things that happened were the world adopting pinyin to spell Chinese stuff in 1982 and Upper Volta renaming itself to Burkina Faso in 1984.)
Hell, you could probably do alright even with a 1955 almanac.
@@IsmailofeRegime I see what you did there
Your Deus Ex box is shinier than mine. Mine was a GOTY edition which was supposed to come with the soundtrack, but because I got it at Gamestop...it didnt come with one. oo_ee
Even better, there is an Apple IIgs enhanced version of the game!
"Hey, I found Carmen San Diego! No wonder nobody could find her; she's _inside_ the world!" Like if you get the reference.
Is there any information on Immanentizing the eschaton?
so this came before the cartoon? Neat!
Did you know they made a 3D platformer for the Gamecube and the PS2 about this? You play as some random kid with a staff, and Carmen has a robot army. ...Yeah, dunno what they were thinking. It'd be like turning Math Blaster into a SHMUP or something.
....That hasn't been done yet, has it?
Oh this game. Have any plans to do any of the other Carmen Sandiego games in the future? Like Word Detective, or Where in Time is Carmen Sandego?
For sure!
Dude it would be awesome if LGR did Where in Time. Granted it might be a little hard to get but nothing the internet can get you. lol
geoguessr brought me back...anyone else? 35 years have past and we are still doing basically the same thing.
What about the cartoon on Fox Kids called "Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?"?
I know that they were trying to tie it to the games, but I always found it kind of strange that they knew they were in a game, and would directly address the player from time to time. Like some kind of weird version of Reboot. Not as weird as the Chief looking like Egon from The Real Ghostbusters though.
I remember this game from school...
Unfortunately, I hated geography with such a passion, even this one couldn't grab my attention.
Definitely recall that show with that catchy tune, though. :p
You should do Cluefinders for the next edutainment month
Hmm wonder why this got into my recommend list
LGR,I wonder if you have any plans on reviewing the System Shock series?
You know, in a world where Almanacs have been replaced by search engines that give you ALL HUMAN KNOWLEDGE AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET You'd think they would have more games like this available...
Hey man ever thinking on looking at police quest, space quest, or kings quest?
Die By the Sword?
I thought I was the only one who owned a copy. :D
sims 1 at 2:16 !! anyways this game is fun... the only one ive played is carmen sandiego for ps2.. if u want to do a really cool review check out primal on ps2.. its my fav game..
I nostalgia'd all over myself. I think I need a paper towel.
You know for a moment I thought he was joking about the world almanac in the box.
Carmen Sandiego. Elusive. Mysterious. Intelligent. Dare I say, sexthay?
A10 Cuba and NFS3HP review pls
So weird seeing the game in color rather than the monochrome green of the apple //c
And of course you need the Almanac to get promoted.
Because, tiny clothes pins, that's why!
Do it Rockapella!!!
I played where in time is carmen sandiego for the apple II that game was f*cking hard
I bought the 95 version and I couldn't get it to work.
I still haven't found her
