Water Temp and Its Affect on Deep Water Fishing, MRGO North

I'm starting a series discussing the effects of water temperature on deep water fishing for speckled trout, and this is the first episode. In this video the water temperature is just a bit too high for speckled trout to concentrate in the deep waters of the MRGO (Mississippi River Gulf Outlet), but there are still some hanging in sections of the MRGO. However, the warmer water temperature has other species like largemouth bass active in the marsh areas around the MRGO.

Hey Jon, I really enjoy your videos. I was out there in my little boat that day. I was fishing by the wall catching pretty good I was throwing back every other fish but still managed to get 20 nice trout in about 2hrs of fishing. Left early to try to beat the rain in.

jw228w, the redfish did hit the Matrix Shad Ultraviolet on the 3/8 oz jig.

What size, and weight rod are your fishing with? Or prefer?

In general, for hard baits I use spinning gear, Med or Med Heavy, Fast Action, Cajun Costal or St. Croix Mojo Bass, 6'8". For jigging and topwater, I use bait casting gear, G Loomis Med or Med Heavy, Fast Action, 6'0" or 6'6".
