I love the simplicity and minimalism of this pastime - you really don't need much stuff to have a great time outdoors! The Wald 137 Basket comes with support struts, but it requires fitting to the handlebars, which I don't like because it takes up valuable real estate up there. What I ended up doing was zip-tying it to a Nitto M18 rack. The M18 is a beautiful handmade piece of craftsmanship, but it's a little delicate. The whole setup can wobble a bit when you really load it up, so I'd prefer something sturdier. The whole zip-tie-to-a-rack thing is a pretty common method. Pelago make a rack/basket called the "Rasket" which looks amazing! I opted against it because the bag I have wouldn't fit in it, but since then they've made a bag which does - bloody infuriating! That's what I'd go for if I did it all again. Cheers!
I don't have a video currently, but I've been working on a setup for my full suspension bike, so will have one sometime in the future. I wouldn't recommend bikepacking on a full suspension bike, but it's what I have right now. I used to bikepack on a 2020 Trek Roscoe. It was an amazing bike for bikepacking. The newer versions are awesome too, but have more aggressive geometry and are more suited to trail riding than bikepacking. Surly does a couple of great bikes that would work like the Karate Monkey or Krampus. What is the size of your rear pack on this video and are you happy with that size. I have been looking at this bag to get away from panniers and I notice there are several sizes.
It's the Goldback Medium. I believe it's the second version and maybe BXB are up to the third now? I'm not sure, but either way; it's an older one. It's perfect for my summer kit, but I think I would prefer the large model for colder weather depending on what other bags I was using. A lot of it depends on your gear and how compact it is. I suppose it's roughly the size of one pannier or can at least stretch to that capacity using the long flap. In terms of function and build quality I absolutely love it. 😁
Yo MM! On long term tour I carry a bar of soap and just chuck it in a zip-loc or something. For little overnighters and weekenders I like to use a small bottle of Dr. Bronner's liquid soap. It's really good stuff. If you get the peppermint one you can even brush your teeth with it! 😁
Generally in organic stores or health food stores or wholefood stores. It's one of those "Green" products, I guess? You can get it in a small bottles - maybe 250ml or so - or big litre bottles. We refill the small ones from a big one. It's pretty expensive though.... Too expensive for to use on an extended tour, but great for short trips.

Is the front basket support rack just off the shelf or did you make it up yourself? Was it hard to find a basket set up that you liked?

The basket bag is a Wizard Works Alakazam in a custom colour scheme. It's extremely well made.
How do you carry soap? Is there a way to stop it getting all slimy?
