1:23 demonstrates a great way to buy some precious reaction time for riding the most alt-gravel sections. Clipping off before even having the possibility for landing hard is just so sensible thing to do.
I did a bikepacking trip with a BobYak trailer from San Jose, ca to Redding, ca and it was very very cold at night. My hands and toes were freezing and sleep was miserable in my little one person tent. I should have picked a different time of the year because it was December. So the list of the story is that I recommend to never go bikepacking in places that are cold in December haha.
Sorry to the squad but when I saw the blue tarp being setup across the log to the table 😳… then you said it rained. I was already assuming bad things had happened 😂🤣. Thanks for the adventure and a laugh DK! 👍🏼
really enjoyed this goofy but informative video, looks like a fun crew! getting ready for my first bike packing adventure, so thanks for sharing your experience!
Sweet epic. Sweet camp sites looked like a real adventure. And ya done gone a lnd learned me somthin. Shoes as pad wheel chocks for pad angles; brilliant!!! A gazillion years outdoors and not once did that occur to me.
I have had some nasty camping experiences in the cold and wet.. One trip a tree fell behind our Tent (Huge Oak) and the rain challenged our Tent to a Dry Off and totally whipped my Tents ass.. It was epically miserable and awesome at the same damn time.. Spent the entire next day trying to find a laundromat.. That was 2019.. Havent been campin since that trip... Time to get back out there..
Haha the blue tarp weighed 3x more, and needed 3x the pack space of a Tarptent Protrail. I use my blue tarp to cover the lawn mower 🙂Fun video, thanks!
@@eugenem.9428 Weather Channel shows a 10 day forecast, so borrowing a good tent, or renting one from REI or a Mtn shop is an option. As someone that has backpacked and bicycle toured for over 50 years there is a lot to be said for wilderness safety and personal responsibility. At 40 degrees and wet, hypothermia can kill. Your friends had tents so in a real jam they could have saved your life. I'm just an old codger, and have been in a few tight spots over the decades, but I don't agree with social media promoting poor decisions in the backcountry. Learning is part of the experience, but so too is using your head.
Tarptent is 💯 that’s the beauty of coming from UL backpacking youre already set with the big 3 gear pieces. Also this dude needs to move over to platypus QuickDraw and ditch the befree
Hey, I was wondering how to get my hands on one of those cool honey comb seats you high lighted on one of your other videos. Any information would be very much appreciated. 🚴🏽♀️🚴🏽♀️🚴🏽♀️🚴🏽♀️🚴🏽♀️🚴🏽♀️
I started bmx in 1986 then mtb in 1992, road in 1996. Then in 2004 I bikepacked from Burlington VT to Yonkers NY. Sold most of my bike, didn't climb back on a bike until 2008. Took 4 yrs to come to terms with the experience! Never again.
I would never ever go bike packing without full fenders and a flap dragging the ground in front. Amazing what a difference that makes. Really saves your components too.
Do those Gore jackets not keep you dry then? I just got one as I got soaked on my last bike pack trip and did not enjoy it lol! Thought that gorewear gear was the bees knees 🫠
Sorry I meant to type ‘Gore’ my phone changed it to ‘fire’! 🤪 I saw you had gorewear kit but mentioned you had water running down your leg. I thought the gore clothing was really waterproof?

Loved these bike packing vids, looks ace apart from the cold wet bit!!
GREAT TO SEE GORGEOUS WINSTON ❤️❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾

Thanks
Great to see a star appearance from Winston. He even makes taking a pee look cute and adorable. 😍
He said it was ok to show a little bit of reality ;)
Thanks for the SUPERS!

Suggestion on dealing with you cold feet and your coldness. Invest in some down booties for extra insulation. Enjoying the bikepacking series!
This is a terrific idea! Thank you for the suggestion.
@@EverythingsBeenDone 2nd the down booties. big popular in hammock camping as well.
The last food stop looked bomb and the Cree you earned naming that jacket color. I wish I could get stationed in the PNW.
Looks like an epic bikepacking trip. Rad🤙
Should call it "High Nuun Whiskey"
IMO.

Yeah but the blue tarp costs change. Why spend a few hundred dollars on your first bikepacking trip?

isn't gas station suchi kinda like 'russian roulette'?
😭
Sushi quality is distributed into tiers. Gas station sushi is tier zero.
With an automatic...
Oh, yea, baby. Eat at your own risk 🤮🤮🤢🤕🤒
It’s in the same category as airport sushi (queue SNL skit)😂😮😅

Not sure which ride I'd select, yours or when I did this with buddies and heat index was 115. Still fun tho
really enjoy your adventures and informative product-content! thank you dustin for being awesome!
do you know the model of johns helmet btw? :)
Snake baby was on point with the whiskey hot toddy. Hot apple cider packet with whiskey is my go too camp drink. 🐍👌
that is really a clever way to play it. beer is kind of a drag for weight.
You mention your tent for this trip, but left us hanging on which you liked better ^^
Great videos by the way :)

Im not sure what your asking here?
Shakedry is hands down our favorite rain jacket here in the PNW.
Sorry I meant to type ‘Gore’ my phone changed it to ‘fire’! 🤪 I saw you had gorewear kit but mentioned you had water running down your leg. I thought the gore clothing was really waterproof?
Proportionate ratios of epic proportion
🤣😂😭
What month was this? Looks like summer but you guys were in winter gear and got cold? So confused.
Looks like fun. 👍 🔥🔥🔥❤❤😂🚲🚲
I would have liked doing that back when I was about 30 🙂
Very cute video.
You are so kind
Cold feet Tip: put them into a stuff sack
Whenever I think about bikepacking my inner aero nerd screams out in agony. I just can't bring myself to pedal a sailboat through the wind.
Ain’t a whole lotta wind in the woods
Nice lodi take care
Thank you! You too!
Don't worry about rain my padawan adventurer, the human body is 90% water anyhoo...
