I consider the Blue Mage to be in a similar vein as the Chemist, as he can pretty much break the game IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING. A player who is playing blind and/or isn't willing to invest the effort to build up the Blue Mage's abilities will end up with a quirky, okay fighter that becomes obsolete before reaching the second world.
Yes, there is something to be said about classes that require a certain level of game knowledge to make them useful. They should almost have 2 rankings; 1 for first play through and the other for potential
I agree on that. Getting all the Blue Magic is really hard to do get unless you know where they are already. A couple spells are only available during a boss and an end game enemy which is a bit too late to be useful. Still, I got some good use out of Aqua Breath during one of my play throughs, and that spell is easy to find, though a bit tricky to survive.
Lets call the blue mage what it is: Strategy Guide Bait. For the Gen Z kids in the audience - a strategy guide is a book you buy with real money that contains a walkthrough. Back in the day many people (especially little kids) had no or limited access to the the net and accessing gamefaqs was not a given. UA-cam didn't exist until 2005 and didn't feature walkthroughs/guides until later than that. So if you wanted to get all the blue spells and missable items you're going to beg your parents to buy you the strategy guide when they buy you the game.
I think FF5 has a neat structure to it where by the end of the game I usually get rid of everyone's job and deck them out with unique abilities - much like real life, the best job is no job.
@@brandonstrife9738 Dualcast costs a crazy amount of AP to learn but it's the best ability in the game. The issue is Red Mage kinda sucks once you acquire Level 4 Magic. It's not _useless_ but low HP, low Strength and low-level magic means their contributions will be marginal at best starting in World 2.
Don't even have to master all of them, just the ones that are really useful for what you're trying to do (or a really nice/neat passive like Ninja for some auto Dual-wield)... of course the more you master the more broken it becomes...
I'm gonna nerd out a little bit here. Time Mage can: -Double everyone's turns -Cut bosses turns in half(base hit 80) -Use Gravity which does unique damage with a base hit rate of 99(the highest possible accuracy) -Use Return to revive undead allies(Skull Armor) -Use Quck to do any action 2 actions in one turn -Use Quick and !DualCast to do any 4 actions in one turn -Use both rods and staves(only this class and Red Mage can do this) -Quick-Leak any (super) boss you don't feel like fighting fairly -Cast Meteor late game, a great universal nuke that any class combinations can take advantage of just by equipping !Time, a spell set that already allows the wielder to dominate the game's turn economy. It's a great use of MP ever for attack-focused classes. I dunno, it just doesn't seem so bad to me is all.
I agree, but one small correction- Quick and Dual Cast allows five actions in one turn. On the first turn, you cast Quick with one of your casts, then you can cast another spell. Then you get four *more* spellcasts.
IMO, the Geomancer is really best in Galuf's world, particularly in the swamps. The Bottomless Bog ability is fairly frequent there, and is pretty effective. So it's great for grinding.
Geomancer is great in the sea trench (or any cave, really) cave in comes up reliably often that it can be your main offensive move for the entire dungeon
I haven't gotten far enough for Geomancer, but a Knight using Focus is broken early on. I can't really seem to get Blue Mages up on physical DPS. Mostly tanks with good magic.
I actually realized after doing some FFVA that almost every character in FFVI is meant to be an archetype of some FFV class: Terra: Knight Locke: Thief Edgar: Dragoon Sabin: Monk Celes: Mystic Knight Shadow: Ninja Cyan: Samurai Gau: Beastmaster (his "standby" Rage sprite is the exact same as if you put him in Berserk status, minus the red skin) Setzer: ? (I haven't figured it out yet) Strago: Blue Mage Relm: Red Mage (bit iffy) Mog: Geomancer/Dancer (his Sun Bath from Wind Song is a literal lifesaver, all for 0 MP! Still, 50% chance of the Dance command failing if the terrain doesn't match means he needs at least some magic) Umaro: Berserker Gogo: Mime/Freelancer
@@ThePikachunianRebel Setzer was a scrapped concept for Faris, and given how a lot of jobs in this game have abilities based on randomness, it's possible Gambler was intended for this one
The Berserker is clutch for most of the game. Train a Knight for two-handed, swap into a Berserker, with two handed equipped, until you get"Berserk", once you get Berserk any character will become the Apex auto attacked. Switch back into a Knight, with their passive cover? You've got a monster acting as a one man Frontline! All you need to do is keep him or her alive with your three other characters. Once you get Berserk and Dual wield for your Freelancer, you're main physical attacker is a whirling dervish of death. Give them the blood sword for life steal, and they'll be the last one standing against any enemy other than undead. I love me some Berserker.
@@thomasmcmullin2724 A knight's double grip is fine on its own, and how about a ninja's dual wielding? It's also important to note that the Berserker is the slowest Job in the game, which means they get to attack the least.
Berserker has the best stat transfer to Freelancer when mastered. If you inclined to make physical fighter of Freelancer/Mime consider mastering this class
This and FFVI were my hands down favorite in the series. I did a playthrough recently where I fought X-Death with an enhanced FF1 party. Knight with Spellblade, Ninja with Blue Magic, Black Mage with Summon Magic, White Mage with Time Magic
Here would be my list from worst to best: 22. Dancer-This job class is useless. Yes, the Dancer can equip the Ribbon, but so can the Freelancer. There is no reason you would ever use it. 21. Berserker-He's slow, his axes give very variable damage, and all he can do is attack. He doesn't offer any useful abilities at all. I never really use this job. 20. Trainer-He may be good in theory, but theory rarely translates to fact. You need a very comprehensive guide if you want to know what enemies you can train, and it's hard to get the enemy down to exactly 1/8 HP in order to capture it. It's good to be able to control enemies, but many enemies can't be controlled, and even if they can be controlled, it will usually take you a few turns to be able to control them. 19. Red Mage-He's a well rounded character, but his weakness is that he really doesn't have a real strength. There's really no reason why you'd want to use him. 18. Dragoon-Not a terrible class, but not a great one either. Jump is a good command, but there's nothing to really write home about here. None of the abilities you get from this class are all that useful. The very definition of "Meh". 17. Geomancer-Good in some situations. Earth can give you some good attacks for no MP at all, but it's so variable that its usefulness is limited. His physical attack is awful with bells, but he is good for finding pitfalls. He has some reasonable abilities. 16. Thief-The Thief is bad in battle, but you can glean some very good abilities from him. Agility, Caution, FindPassages, and Flee are all great abilities. If you can choke down his bad game play, you'll be rewarded. 15. White Mage-Good at healing, but not a lot else. His physical attack is awful with staves, and the Chemist or Blue Mage would be a better pick for healing really. If one of your characters has the Zombie status ailment or has the bone mail, then he won't do much good. Holy is a great spell, but you don't get it until near the end of the game. 14. Black Mage-He can really wreck some havoc with his magic. However, you usually have better options. He uses a lot of MP, and so the Mage Knight or Summoner would be a better pick. 13. Ranger-He's fairly good, but not great. His Aim command guarantees a hit, and bows are a fairly good weapon. However, his armor selection is bad, and while X-Fight is a great ability, it takes a long time to get. 12. Time Mage-He has some very useful magic. Haste and Hasteaga are downright useful, and Meteo guarantees a lot of damage. However, the Black Mage is better at attack, and the Time Mage has no healing abilities. 11. Bard-His attack with harps is fairly good, and his Sing ability is potentially game-breaking. The hide aspect of things is the only down side. 10. Monk-Very fast, high HP, and no need to give him a weapon. Let's not forget how useful the Barefist, Chakra, and Store abilities are. The only downside is that he has a very limited armor selection. 9. Summoner-Don't stay away from this job class for sure! He's like a Black Mage but better. Not only does he have stronger black magic than the actual Black Mage, but he also has spells like Golem and Carbunkle that will do some useful buffing. All of this offsets his bad physical attack. 8. Knight-Powerful and able to equip all of the best weapons and armor the game has to offer, he's your tank. EquipSwords and EquipArmor are good abilities, and I like to learn them as quickly as possible to break the game wide open. 7. Ninja-Breakishly good. He has high agility, the Throw command is good for bosses, and you're likely to get a lot of preemptive attacks with one in your party, not to mention he can attack twice per round. Give him the EquipSwords ability to break the game wide open. 6. Mage Knight-Like a Black Mage, but he uses less MP. Great against boss enemies, and he automatically casts shell when his HP is low. He can equip very powerful weapons, even if his armor selection is limited. 5. Chemist-Has a lot of GREAT abilities! He can use stat-boosting drinks, he can administer items for twice the effectiveness, and Mix, Recover, and Revive are some of the best abilities of the game. He's really better than a White Mage. His only weakness is his weapon selection is very limited, and his physical attack is bad. 4. Samurai-He has good evade, more-than-reasonable agility, and his katanas are some of the best weapons of the game. Combine that with a fairly good armor selection and the ridiculously over-powered GilToss ability, and you have a game-breaking job class. 3. Blue Mage-What can you say about him? He has everything. He can equip good armor and weapons, and he has the best magic of the game. He can use healing magic, attack magic, you name it. If you could only have only one mage in your party, this would be the one. Yes, the magic is hard to get because the enemy has to cast the spell directly on you, but if you do get it, you end up with some very useful magic indeed. 2. Mime-He has a customizable command menu. He can mimic any attack another character did, and he inherits all the passive abilities from other job classes. Yes, Mimic is a hard ability to learn, but you could just use the mime without assigning the ability. Also, he can equip most weapons and armor. 1. Freelancer-He can equip all weapons and armor, and you can assign two abilities to him. What more do you want? The only down side is you don't get any abilities from this job class. Use this job class against the final boss or the super bosses.
Freelancers stats are also based on every job you’ve mastered and gets all passives from mastered jobs. I typically make my healer a free lancer and my support character that can use rapidfire, Mix + passives from ninja = mega OP Mimic is a massively OP class for magic too. Duel cast with nearly all spell, summoning, and then blue magic to boot! The duel casting doesn’t work on the blue magic, but that is okay.
Dancer does lots of dmg and steals MP so you can turn them into a White mage and heal then turn them back to a Dancer, and Dancer equipment improves the ability to do sword dance which does lots of dmg without needing lots of ABP to get. Berzerker does 50% more DMG has good axes like Death scythe that can cast death on bosses, hammer from backrow, and earth hammer which casts quake on miss and you can make him miss by blinding him, Rune axe does tons of dmg and is based on Magic pwr which you can increase by giving Berzerker magic abilities like Black or Summon. Berserk does well with bair handed and both handed. Trainer -> you can use venom, bio, death claw, missile, demi, or use math and he has an upgrade that lets him catch much more easily. Control can defeat Shield dragons, red dragons, and prototype which are good enemies to focus on (running away on all others) for grinding, and it gets higher% of working with the control hat. Whips stun people and are backrow and don't take that much ABP to get. Many enemies when released can 1-shot or 4-shot bosses. Red Mage can break rods (but they lack magic pwr : ( ), can use healing staff to heal Time Mage can break rods and equip healing staff
🤯 I never expected that! I'm trying Blue Mage and it's a pain because I don't have any physical DPS, and I don't know if Guard blocks learning Blue Magic.
@@ThePikachunianRebel Blue Mage works best with other Mage classes as opposed to more physical classes. Though guard doesn't prevent your Blue Mage from learning the spells. Word of advice, use a walkthrough for learning the spells. Because some are missable and some can be acquired earlier of you know what your doing. Also, some spells only work based on enemy level as well as your own, whether you're trying to learn the spell or use it on an enemy, like Goblin Punch dealing 8x physical damage when the user level is thebsame as the target, or the level 2-5 spells that only work when the target level is divisable by the respective number attached to the spell. Finally, you not only have to be affected or take damage from the spell, but you also have to be alive by the end of the battle in order to actually learn it, so spells that hit hard like Lv 3. Flare or the instakill Lv 5 Death spell have to be dealt with using countermeasures like the Chemist mix that can make a solution to absorb certain magical elements or have only your blue mage level be divisible by 5 and then revive them before the battle ends with White Magic pr Phoenix Down respectively. Also, there is only one enemy that knows Mighty Guard and you don't see it until World 3 and in the ocean. You'll need to use Control from Beast Master on it to learn was is basically the best protective buffing spell in the whole game.
Ryan Reynolds is a sellout geek that been both friends with Epstein, and gone to his island. Hollywood doesn't want him anymore so he has been reduced to selling phone service that's essentially a California Cricket.
Why you trying so hard to convince strangers on the internet ur "100% straight" ? Sounds like you may have done some experimenting to me. But what do I know.....
You can make sword dance pop up 50% of the time and you can easily boost it to 4k damage. Time mage has the all important haste, before you can get the haste boots, and then there is an argument to be made that you might want another accessory instead of the boots.
This is a pretty accurate ranking for casual players. It would wildly change if you were an intermediate or hardcore player though, which is just a testament to how much depth the jobs and the job system has! FFV's gameplay really is the Ryan Reynolds of the whole franchise.
Monk's punch suffers from poor scaling. They have the highest Vitality and Strength that can be transffered to Freelancer but that's about it. I can argue that Berserker has some merit over Monk and they can work better in synergy. Time Mage is indeed great, but they don't really offer anything too special since their best asset (Haste and Hastega) can be replicated with certain items, and Meteor is too random to be reliable.
I think Dragoon is a poorly designed class from the basic foundations. You have a heavily-armored physical attacker with high HP and a shield, and yet its signature ability takes them out of the fight for extended durations so that the rest of the party is left to soak up more damage. This guy should be TANKING, not cowering in the clouds. I never found the Jump ability to be all that amazing anyhow -- it takes forever to execute, and it's barely worth doing when you could just do two normal attacks instead. It's also the ONLY thing they can do, making dragoon an incredibly boring, one-note job. Thematically, it just makes no sense either -- I would expect someone nimbly leaping high into the sky to be lightly-clad, not decked out in heavy plate armor from head to toe. I know this is FFV we're talking about, but I can't help but think back to FFIV and how Edward the bard had that "Hide" ability where he would just disappear and do nothing. THAT should have been the "jump" command, at least in function. Call it "Sneak Attack" and have Edward slink away, then come back later with a decently powerful attack to the enemy. It makes a lot more sense for him, being a squishy character. Kain should be the one staying in the front lines, drawing fire away from his weaker allies. ...Oh, also I think it's hilarious that in FFVI you have the Dragoon Boots that can give anybody the Jump command -- like it's not even a big deal and not substantial enough to base a whole character around.
I think is because the dragoon job is not tanking, none of the final fantasy has dragoon as tank, their focus are always DPS, in ffiv you already have Cecil with the cover ability to protect your team (Cecil also have way more HP and defense than Kain), i think the warrior/knight from ffv also has cover to tank, in dimensions i think the paladin and the dark knight have tank skills. You can also check FFXIV to see that Dragooners are not tanks (Samurais also use Heavy Armor but are not Tanks in fft), the same goes for FFXII Zodiac Age. Just because someone uses heavy armor they are not going to be tankers (you can also see world of warcraft with a bunch of DPS who use Plate/Mail, but i guess is not final fantasy). Even in ffix Freya does have cover, but her HP is actually almost always lower than Zidane (who is a thief that can't even use heavy armor), her HP is nothing close to Steiner, i'm not even gonna talk about how Kimarih is nothing close to Auron in HP/defense. But you are right about the Jump damage, it should be something like 2.5 the normal atk damage to be worth using, and maybe cause more damage if the enemy flies or something. In ff dimensions and in FFTA2 they have their breath skills, i'm sure Bravely default and second also have cool skills for the Dragoon job (named Valkyrie in these games). To be a Tank you need skills like the Provoke from the Viking from FFIII, Cover is also pretty famous Tank skills, Draw Attack from Dark Knight, maybe some form of Aura, like the Rampart Aura from the Knights of Tactics Ogre.
i feel that if Jump's damage got boosted by equipment weight then it would make more sense... i dont like it in FF14 either, bad memories... mainly death by animation lock.
1st.. he sed "Only for 1st time casual playthrough" Then he ranked Chemist & frickin Blue Mage high on the list... I have never met someone that knows where to get the frickin blue magics even in their 2nd playthrough w/o a fricken guide!!! Much more a chemist... 2nd.. 1st timers wont even know that a Ranger would learn Rapid fire before they drop the job because of how weak it is...
Yeah this whole ranking is whack. That is not how I'd rank the jobs for a "casual playthrough" of this game. Mimic shouldn't be that high since you basically already finished the game when you're able to unlock it.
It's basically the same for ff6. Gau is meh on the first play and takes a lot of time and experimenting to realize how good he is. Locke is garbage and then becomes a top end killer. Mog and Strago start out excellent then get completely outclassed by a Sasquatch.
The solution, you equip EVERYONE with Blue Mage, until they learn Learning, that way it doesn't matter who gets hit, the spell pool is shared amongst the party.
@@cameronholtan3407 what about the special conditions?... most of the time you need !control to make the enemy use blu magic n d first place... and how about lvl flare, where u need to reflect a red dragon b4 u control it.. not to mention to have specific levels to get hit... and u must know how to !mix coz you most likely dont have reflect spell in ur first encounter
Time Mage also gets Meteor, which is arguably the best spell in the game. I think you forgot to mention that. Overall I agree with most of the placements, but the only job I would actually call trash is Berserker. I hate not being able to control my characters.
Meteor is ass. It doesn't scale of magic power, it actually has a fixed damage formula similar to comet, which means that it doesn't get any stronger the more you level up and actually becomes weaker because it takes into account magic defense and nothing else.
@@AyuNico It's the strongest spell against single targets, at least in a normal playthrough where you don't level grind so much. It also ignores Reflect, so it has some things going for it.
Great list although I strongly disagree about the monk being among the weakest classes. The Barehanded ability it learns allows any other class to do way more damage WITHOUT a weapon equipped; sure saves on Gil big time. It also learns Counter which is very useful on the Freelancer. The Pixel remaster version even lets you use Rapid Fire barehanded on the Freelancer which is even more powerful (especially when it lands multiple critical hits).
I'm playing FFVA and tend to lean on Monk + White Magic/Knight + Focus/Barehanded. *Any* Magic class can take advantage of Barehanded or Focus, though Guard is good as a second option since it's learned so quickly. The Blue Magic spell Vampire is even more broken though...
@@ThePikachunianRebel I love Focus as well since you can use it from the back row to hit for full damage. Never experimented much with the blue mage so I never tried out vampire. I know it's an amazing class if you take the time to gather all the best spells from enemies. At the end of the game, going barehanded is easily replaced by Rapid Fire+Dual Wield. Slap on your strongest weapons and go wild. Excalibur and Holy Lance really bite you in the ass though as while they have excellent stats, some late game enemies absorb holy.
@@JoeBee9 I used a combo of 4 Blue Mages with Vampire, Goblin Punch, and Aero to take on Shiva at lvl 11. I won. Vampire drains health equal to your missing/enemy's remaining health and heals you for it. The key with Goblin Punch is a high damage weapon plus matching the enemy's level exactly. The Ice Soldiers often have Mithril Swords as their steal. Grab 4, then make sure all your levels are at 11. Goblin Punch turns weapon damage into an unblockable magic attack, x8 with the level matching. Shiva can't absorb Aero/Wind, so it's a good back up.
@@JoeBee9 plus, I have a bit of a build/magic question. I've tried this on FFVA and it seemed to work. It requires Guard and Stop. You set up Guard on one character, then cast Stop on them while they have Guard up. I would think by doing that, you'd extend the Guard time until Stop wears off. I call it a "Stasis Guard" after a similar time-freezing status in a different game.
I always thought the freelancer was the best class, simply because for every class you master the freelancer automatically gains all the passive abilities, keeps the increased stats of whatever jobs you've mastered, and you can add two of your favorite battle commands. The mimic may be able to equip 3, but the stats suck, and with 4 characters to customize you're more than likely never going to utilize them all. Although, if you want to have a full-powered freelancer, it really helps if you're prone to being a completionist. Plus, as an aside, I'm pretty sure the freelancer can equip anything, including the ribbon, without needing to learn the skill.
In the OG version (aka emulator version) yes They got EVERY pasive active, that means hp +10, hp +20 and hp +30 at the same time... Thing that was nerfed on mobile and steam version 💔
@@MolfredoSascha wait... WHAT?! The all stats buffs got nerfed on the steam/mobile version? Frick that, that was the best part of the freelancer class.
@@mauricesteel4995 Yeah, I don't know why people think Mimes have "weaker" stats. It's the same idea for Freelancer but only can use daggers and stuff, like you said
Those freaking tier names! Never change David. You going to do a DQ job tier list? I think it would be more interesting than an FF one. DQ jobs are much more specialized.
Interchangeable Job Class systems are a fun game mechanic. I have to admit that part of why FFV appeals to me is that each character gets a graphic change for each Job--it's like 'Cosplay: the Game'. Actually, the characters 'morph' by using the Crystals...the game has something of a colorful, campy, 'Power Rangers' feeling, which I also enjoy.
Kind of surprised time mage got hit. Slow works on many bosses and hard mobs. Hastaga is amazing. Meteor later is great too with Return for helping their with those steals.
Completely disagree with you on Time Mage, at least as a secondary skill when in another class (particularly a non-magic class). Being able to slow down enemies and speed up allies can be a game changer, in addition to percentage-based damage to make fights a lot shorter (though Blue Mage does have an ability like that as well).
Harps are weird in FFV; none of them actually use the displayed attack power at all. Anyway, all but one of them are useless, but the exception (Apollo's Harp) is very good, doing OCTUPLE damage to both dragons and undead.
That was amazing, although I personally disagree about the monk. Being able to dish out high crits with no weapons is such an easy and cheap way to progress. Many times when enemies seem to withstand a weapon or caster, monks push through. And with build up, the dps can be huge. I am also calling out any artists to do fan art of Sir Ryan Reynolds cosplaying a Blue Mage. You could even palate swap his Green Lantern costume.
Monk is way more reliable in the damage department than knights and other physical fighters. The barehanded skill can easily make your life easier with giving your mages the ability to physically attack if you run low on MP and does more reliable damage than most swords, especially early on. I alway invest in Monk early on and it never has let me down.
Monk gets very weak in the late game and has to equip the Kaiser Knuckles to be able to deal damage at all in the lategame. You also have to eat all the magic attacks directed at you, and the Monk has no defense against statuses, level-halving or hp drain like graviga and maelstrom
interesting take, i think this tier list would be a lot different if the game were a lot more challenging. jobs like time mage could shine more if the buffs/debuffs were more impactful vs challenging enemies, cover from knight could be a lot more then it is....etc. in a vacuum the game is crazy crazy crazy easy, with a fantastic job system that deserved better
Considering how broken the Reset spell is, seeing Time Mages so low is really hard to accept. In the end all the classes and their best quirks become essential once you decide to go for a Freelancer party.
While Time Mage is indeed woefully underranked by this, I can't say Reset hype features much. I guess it's a way to save yourself from random wipes in an LLG occasionally? For bosses after a save point, every class in the game has reset, it's just "load your saved game." (Maybe useful in a weirdly defined Iron Man no reloading run I guess, but Reset seems against the spirit of an Iron Man run as well.)
@@Snow_Fire_Flame Reset/Return has actually its uses. The developers were really stingy with save points expecially in the second and third world dungeons, Reset avoid the problem of having to undergo an entire third of even half of a dungeon just because you didn't have the right strategy planned or RNG was against you, being a spell that actually works during boss fights (Neo Exdeath included) allows the player to start again and correct the errors they made during a fight without the need of turning off the game and start again from the last save point. It also costs justs 1 MP and it's less time consuming and saves a lot of frustration. Obviously this is my point of view regarding the utility of the Reset/Return spell. Sry for the essay.
That final form is tough as hell. FF5's final boss has been known for a long time now as possibly the most difficult final boss in the series. Not sure how it holds up with 13 or 15's final boss but yowza! Did you know you can avoid fighting Neo Ex-Death?
@@MiamiSunrise FFXVs final boss is weak as hell. You can beat him at the minimum of lvl 40 but at the end of the game, you should be around the 60s or 70s if you did some sidequests and hunts
Dual casting doesn't take very long when you use soft on the stone knights in the basement of that one castle. It's been years I forget the names of everything. That's a quick way to get ability points
Honestly; thanks to all the successful Job Fiesta runs over the years, even the worst job selections at random lead to interesting results. The game was made pretty darn well; at least from a challenge-based morbid curiosity kinda way. also curious what you think of the GBA jobs
@@rakino4418 I've seen some 3/4 berserker risk runs, but I haven't seen anyone upload a full berserker risk yet. that run would definitely put some hair on your chest lol
Monk may suck as a class, but it's one of the first you want Bartz and Faris (at least) to master, because it imparts the greatest strength stat in the game
I think there are certain jobs that are not useful until the endgame. They suck in the beginning but become better at the end. Time mage gets haste2 which opens up an accessory slot. Bard gets the str and level song at the end as well as Apollo harp. Red mage sucks but equipping black, summon, or blue as a subability is essentially like being those jobs so it's worth it for dualcast
I think pound-for-pound the Monk is the best job in the game. Most players will master them for their strength and endurance bonuses for their freelancer, and barehanded is a cheap dual wield you get for 45 AP and it becomes the strongest weapon in the game at level 69 (44 with Kaiser Knuckle). Aside from this you get Focus really early, which destroys bosses until you get Rapid Fire. And everybody likes counter.
How is Focus any good? But yeah, Barehanded is OP, it also gives you a monk's strength. So a Blackmage with Barehanded will do the same damage as a Monk.
@@jm2270 Because Focus is double the damage with only a slight delay, and if it crits it hits ridiculously hard. I have oneshotted bosses with it before the end of the first turn. But Rapid Fire outclasses it in every way.
@@jm2270 Its not 1.5, more like 1.2. When I focus he usually hits while I am selecting what to do with the next guy in order. If you crit it is more like x6. Yes it is worth it, but Rapid Fire is better.
The best top tier jobs are mimic for magic casters and freelancer for physical fighters. This pair of jobs accumulates passively all pasives, and all stats bonus of all jobs you mastered, if you master all jobs, freelancer gets mastered, makes you characters insanely strong with damn high stats, capable of doing anything, and equip anything, in lategame these 2 are the most powerful jobs. In remakes, there is one damn powerful job with insane magic to top.
This is one of my favorite final fantasies too, i hope it gets a remake someday. You should play this game with the Low Level Challenge, its very fun and its crazy how far we can get into the game with level 1-4 characters lol
One thing this video reminded me of is that this game’s soundtrack was filled with absolute bangers. Also now I’m kinda curious where the GBA jobs _would_ go on the list. Probably not high... Cannoneer has virtually nothing going for it and requires you to buy items to use its abilities, Oracle is too unreliable (though it does have the only ability that lowers the encounter rate), and Necromancer is just a Summoner that you can’t heal normally. Gladiator at least has Finisher, I suppose...
I think what really hurts the GBA jobs is just how late in the game you get them; you can get the MIME before any of them! Oracle especially would have definitely been more helpful earlier in the game (with how high the encounter rate is in general, esp if you're actually going for the Brave Blade) and Gladiator would also have been a good addition to the phys fighters, esp since they can use bows as well (giving you more incentive to buy Ranger stuff too) but yeah I don't think there's any saving Cannoneer or Necromancer (why is this the LAST job you get in the game?!)
Like all things, Necromancer’s main weakness is solved by a Blue Mage’s abilities in White Wind and beyond. The Necro’s own blue mage like abilities scream for a NG+ feature, as while it would break the game (which ones don’t?) it would do a lot to make using them fun and their ability gathering worth the effort. Like with the Blue Mage in FFX-2; many of those abilities are quite difficult to acquire, but the ability to use them in repeat playthroughs helps a lot.
Oliver Surpless But then we get into the whole question of why don’t you just use a Blue Mage? There’s nothing I can think of that a Necromancer offers that a Summoner doesn’t already. Status ailments? Maybe if this was DQ or SMT, but this is FF where status ailments generally are worthless against enemies.
I just finished FFV for the first time two months ago and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it because of the class system. Really enjoyed learning some things I didnt know and some classes to consider on a future play through!
with Dancer you can make Sword Dance Proc almost all the time with the dancer gear you can steal from the Phoenix Tower. and then with chicken knife or Freelancer with the brave blade can do massive damage with Sword Dance.
Time mage might be my favorite class in any RPG. it’s just so unique and gets really fun spells that range from support to offense. Comet, gravity, regen, teleport, HASTE (which is so useful in boss fights, especially when you get the spell that casts it on your WHOLE party). Such a fun job.
In playing the original Super Famicom version translated and the Dragoon's Dragonblade ability is terrific. I add it to a Summoner/Black Mage so I get a ranged attack that also restores HP & MP. Another benefit is enemies with drained MP won't cast spells. That's pretty useful. I also equipped a Knight with the drain sword and X-Attack which means they're dishing out huge damage while healing themselves and covering other party members.
Every time I sign up for the FF5 Four Job Fiesta and get White Mage as my first class, I kind of lose interest in the run just because White Mage basically invalidates all the challenge of the run. You take four white mages and grind them up just enough to get over the initial hump of the game and everything else is just a cake walk. Definitely liked this format of video!
Freya does it some justice in Final Fantasy 9, and Cid is nice if he counts in 7, but I really can't say the same about anyone else *cough*Kimahri*cough*
@@asmodeus58XX Is Freya doing justice to the Dragoon job, though, or is she savagely dunking on it by being a properly well-rounded attack/support class that just happens to have the Jump command along for the ride?
@@0Fyrebrand0 What else is she, though? Kimahri is the worst, though, as he really isn't even a real Dragoon, he simply has Jump as another Blue Magic Overdrive. Also, he's the worst Blue Mage ever, and not just because it's restricted to Overdrive. Just take a look as Quistis and how broken her Mighty Guard is.
@@asmodeus58XX Yes, I would say Cid is the Dragoon of FF7. Cloud: Knight/Paladin Aeris/Aerith: White Mage Tifa: Monk Barrett: Tank/Gunner/Warrior Red XIII: Geomancer/Time Mage (due to Lunatic High being a Haste Cast move, and the majority of his LB having nature/Earth based themes) Yuffie: Ninja/Thief Cait Sith/Reeve Tuesti: Originally listed as Beastmaster (Toysaurus) on his design file Cid: Dragoon Vincent: Berserker (due to his LB)
I think dimensions is so much superior to FFV, after playing dimensions i never had the courage to play FFV again, so many more characters to make different builds, the possibility to combine skills depending on the jobs, plus in dimensions you have to plan how to increase your characters jobs, is just so much superior. But i guess they just took what FFV did and improve, just like FFV did to FFIII, and FFIII did to FFI. Bravely Default is also a direct improvement of FFV.
@@saulotrigueiro5890 Is it worth buying FF Dimensions? I read your comment and did a little research. I also read some reviews at Play Store. Most of them were pretty favorable with some minor complaints about the encounter rates and lack of cloud save. I am asking because €16 are a lot of money here in Albania lol. Plz help :(
@@FGj-xj7rd since money is hard in your case, then i feel that is probably better to not buy it, no game is worth money that could be used for food and things more useful in real life, if you are curious about the game you can see the entire gameplay in UA-cam, to me it was worth to buy, but people are different and live in different situations
A lot of the jobs aren't very optimal,But I still love so many of those jobs all the same. And just remembering all the jobs makes me feel happy. Man was the Job System amazing. Blue Magic was fun as hell to learn and use. Dual Wield plus Rapid Fire AND Spellblade is awesome. Coin Toss was stupid and great in every way. And while it was a pain,I got both of my Spell casters to gain Dualcast. It was worth it combining it with awesome stuff like Summons and Black Magic. And Quick was great to use tbh. Final Fantasy V was so goddamn FUN I appreciate this video for making me think of the Jobs again. Thank you. Also nice Tier names
As always, the healer is most essential! I liked this tier list! some of the ranks did surprise me (I didn't think Dragoon would be dead last or Mimic would be only #5!) but they all made sense to me! Your comments really made me think about balancing jobs from a game design perspective too, so that was a nice bonus!
To be fair to the Monk and Berserker jobs, they also have really good Strength and Stamina that can be passed on to Freelancer/Mime when mastered. On top of that, Dualcasting is really what unlocks Mime in the late game if you can stick with it.
I also thought it would have been cool to tack on passive abilities you learned onto other classes with some extra slots. May Be just 2 slots. It would be awesome to add a shield or dash without losing an ability slot.
I had a mystic knight with cover and counterattack. I'd use drain as his spell. It'd an attack about to kill your white mage? Nope, covered by the mystic knight, blocked with hits shield, counterattacked, and drained health from the enemy! But that was second only to a single bard ability... The bard's confusion song was WAY OP! Enemies just had a random chance of offing themselves while confused and the song hits every enemy and barely any enemies are immune.
I used equip sword on a ninja and gave them the fire and ice swords. The 2 hits were combining for over 5k and this is just after returning from Galuf’s world
some players players often don't know how good Haste itself is, and that many enemies including bosses are succeptible to slow, and Quick is absolutely disgusting and an absurd power multiplier to any skillset you can apply it to. Time Mage is absurd and if you need raw elemental damage, just break rods.
Dancing Dagger is a good item for mages. Mystery dance can reward you with a lot of MP if you can get it. Of course, you can just give them the dance command as well. Mystery dance clutched me in the Atomos boss fight. I had no ethers or elixirs.
Just kinda goes to show how different two people can play this game. I always thought the Time Mage was pretty much the best job in the game - as far as support jobs go. Just casting Haste on all your dudes and Slow on all the enemies is good enough, but they also have plenty of other useful buff/debuff spells (Regen, Silence, Float, etc.). Return/Reset is also the most hilariously ridiculous spell in the whole series to me.
The class that I always liked was the Mystic Knight. When you get the best spells, Mystic Knight become a terror. In my opinion it is the best job on FFV
Btw, if you want extreme damage, I'd try Focus/Two Handed + Flare Spelblade. I've heard Flare cuts enemy defense to 1/4, is non-elemental, and gives the equipped weapon +100 attack power. Focus/Two Handed are pretty much identical, but Two Handed is passive, so no turn wasting. Might use it against Enuo when I reach him.
I disagree on the Time Mage. Their Haste/Hastega spells are invaluable, more speed means more attack turns so it’s advantageous and you can slow enemies/some bosses. Comet is good when you first obtain it, it does decent damage (sometimes). The Meteor spell can do some ridiculous damage and then there’s Quick. When i don’t have a Time Mage in the party, i always give the other job time magic
White mages also get access to important buffs in both shell and protect in addition to the healing making them truly the closest thing to a must use job. Other jobs I find incredibly useful and don’t require too much time investment outside of doing the main storyline in addition to the white mage are ones like the Ninja, Mystic Knight, Summoner and Black Mage. Having a couple of Ninjas that can use Spell Blade and a couple Mages that can use White Magic with Summoning or Black Magic can easily clear the game. Best of all this kind of setup is dead simple for first timers to the job system to setup. Also easy to equip 4 Hermes Sandals to all four characters so a Time Mage is pointless.
Honestly, I liked having sword equip while grinding for ABP. In the merged world, I almost always have someone equipped with the Brave Blade due to the insane damage output. (Edit: I never run from battles in this game. So the Brave Blade becomes my ultimate weapon most of the time)
Berserk + Two-handed and you will break the game for like 3/4 of it. Best damage you can get without a lot of AP or equipment. Sword Dance can be triggered more if you get all the dancer items + being immune to status items and even more broken with dual Twin Lances. Dancer and Berserker should be way higher.
You can use Charm song or control the last enemy then cast Bard life song though it takes a while. You can change other people to White mages to cure yourself then change them back which is great for Dancers who steal MP.
Very solid list and good insight as to why you placed them where you did. I might put Blue Mage a little lower though. Don't get me wrong, I love the Blue Mage and think it's very strong. But, it's not THAT good if you don't know the game that well and aren't following a guide. I was surprised to see how high on the list you put it after seeing you use that same logic to not put Chemist near the top
Haha, this video format was hilarious.. I’d be curious as to your thoughts on the classes in a non-casual play through?.. it really changes the dynamics as you’re grinding for specific inate abilities and the best stat boosts for mimic and bare. Specific thought would be like for the non-mage focused characters mastering geo manner is great for the third highest magic stat boost with way less ap required to master than the mage jobs. Its a way better boost to magic than the Sorcerers (mystic knight I think depending on translation?) empowering sword magic to a greater degree. Great videos. The only job system to rival 5 is tactics and each system fits the gameplay of their respective games well. Blue Mage needs to be able to learn big guard earlier is my biggest complaint lol. Here’s the best protection in the game as your reaching a level it doesn’t matter.
My favorite is FreeLancer , if Master any job, ye gain stat boost (with a limit) , can use any Weapon/Armor and Accessory, can Dual Wield if mastered Ninja, Counter if Mastered Monk. Has 2 Ability Slots. Even though Mimic , if i remember right , is the same as FreeLancer just with Mimicry, but can only use Knives, Rods and Staves, but good for Spell Casters. And 3 Ability Slots. Edit: I'm a grind heavy player , so...... yeah lol. I got Dual Wield and Dual Cast at World 1 before even starting the Flying Fortress lol.
The algorithm I think...has chosen this video. Just discovered your channel due to my nerding out about final fantasy. Just browsed some of your videos and they're great.
I tried all of the jobs and some of the ones in the bottom tier carried me to endgame. Monks at Lv. 50 on up can do some insane damage and is one if the only two jobs that can inherently attack twice. The only problem is their low Magic Defense.... Dualcasting is a godsend! Especially once you master White Mage, Black Mage, and Time Mage.
Any tips for Freelancer with Blue Magic in FFVA? I've got some ideas, but nothing is set in stone: Bartz: "Indigo" Mage (raw damage Blue Magic like Areoga; heavier armor and axes; Dual wield from Ninja) Lenna: "Sapphire" Mage (technical Blue Magic like Goblin Punch; mid weight armor and Excalibur; X-Fight) Galuf/Karil: "Teal" Mage (primarily White Wind; Guard is a must; possibly using staves) Faris: "Cobalt Mage" (primarily Mighty Guard; Cover is a must, heavy armor and katanas) Anything I can do to improve on this?
you can control the red dragon to flare itself and yellow dragon to hurricane itself into single digit hp. you can control the reflect knight to cast a free reflect; opening up a vector for your mages to attack him. control is an ability that not only robs a monster of their turn, but also turn their OP abilities against them. for the casual player, control gets easily looked past. for people who know the inside of the game or have a guide, control is quite handy.
Wasn´t a party filled with Dragoons using Jump all the time the easiest way to take down Shinryu, one of the most powerful optional bosses of the game?
Pretty surprised by the placement of the Chemist and the mystic knight. Chemist is hard to learn but knowing the op combos you can breeze through the endgame in the low 30s, and due to a glitch on the SNES/PSX versions you can SKIP the final boss. Mystic Knight I would have put at #1 or 2 for one reason. The spell Break. As a black mage spell it inflicts stone on enemies weak to it but has low accuracy. On mystic knight, yeah don't worry about accuracy just destroy almost every random encounter and a few bosses. Couple this with X strike and the power output is very high.
I love the berserker!! It's like having the avenger sword in ff4! It's awesome to have one guy in your crew just wacking away berserked ... considering I love the haste spell of course I love the berserker!!
Good list, I really love this game! But I think you put the time mage too low. Stuff like the slow spells are good on randoms and certain boss fights, and haste/hastega is also really good. And you can’t forget the almighty meteor. You get it late, but it’s pretty much the absolute best single target spell in the game.
IIRC, the Knight's passive ability Equip Sword also gave you a strength boost so you could actually use it. If I was grinding in one of the magic casting jobs, I'd use it. You can fight like the physical classes and save MP
Thanks for the list! I've always loved all the 2D Final Fantasies, but 5 is the only one I never finished. I think I've always been overwhelmed by the amount of different Jobs and didn't know what I should level up with and with who. I'd always give up after awhile. Maybe I'll try it again.
The Mime's Job stats are not abysmal; it's the same as Freelancer, meaning if you mastered prior jobs, you get the stat boosts of them. Meaning the Mime is truly the most broken job (of course)
I dunno, it's so strong you tend to stick with it and learn useful and useless new spells all the time
@@Harie0 that chimera killed me so many times
Freelancer FTW
He rates the Red Mage way too low. It should be closer to the top if he's gonna put blue mage that far up.
@@brandonstrife9738 agreed. Haven't mastered everything yet but I'm going to be Freelancers + Blue Magic for Exdeath and the Sealed Temple.
Best job: Jobless, after mastering all jobs.
Freelancer best class
This applies to real life as well...?
@@_clrke YES.
Don't even have to master all of them, just the ones that are really useful for what you're trying to do (or a really nice/neat passive like Ninja for some auto Dual-wield)... of course the more you master the more broken it becomes...

Time Mage can:
-Double everyone's turns
-Cut bosses turns in half(base hit 80)
-Use Gravity which does unique damage with a base hit rate of 99(the highest possible accuracy)
-Use Return to revive undead allies(Skull Armor)
-Use Quck to do any action 2 actions in one turn
-Use Quick and !DualCast to do any 4 actions in one turn
-Use both rods and staves(only this class and Red Mage can do this)
-Quick-Leak any (super) boss you don't feel like fighting fairly
-Cast Meteor late game, a great universal nuke that any class combinations can take advantage of just by equipping !Time, a spell set that already allows the wielder to dominate the game's turn economy.
Its a broken class
Completely agree, I really don’t know how anyone would seriously put Time Mage in bottom tier.
I wish my set up would let me use magic🙏🙏 things die in everyone first turn or second 😂😂😂
Time mage probably takes forever to get the abilities tho
IMO, the Geomancer is really best in Galuf's world, particularly in the swamps. The Bottomless Bog ability is fairly frequent there, and is pretty effective. So it's great for grinding.
Geomancer is great in the sea trench (or any cave, really) cave in comes up reliably often that it can be your main offensive move for the entire dungeon
I haven't gotten far enough for Geomancer, but a Knight using Focus is broken early on. I can't really seem to get Blue Mages up on physical DPS. Mostly tanks with good magic.
I actually realized after doing some FFVA that almost every character in FFVI is meant to be an archetype of some FFV class:
Terra: Knight
Locke: Thief
Edgar: Dragoon
Sabin: Monk
Celes: Mystic Knight
Shadow: Ninja
Cyan: Samurai
Gau: Beastmaster (his "standby" Rage sprite is the exact same as if you put him in Berserk status, minus the red skin)
Setzer: ? (I haven't figured it out yet)
Strago: Blue Mage
Relm: Red Mage (bit iffy)
Mog: Geomancer/Dancer (his Sun Bath from Wind Song is a literal lifesaver, all for 0 MP! Still, 50% chance of the Dance command failing if the terrain doesn't match means he needs at least some magic)
Umaro: Berserker
Gogo: Mime/Freelancer
@@ThePikachunianRebel Setzer was a scrapped concept for Faris, and given how a lot of jobs in this game have abilities based on randomness, it's possible Gambler was intended for this one
Huge disagree on many points, but a great video nonetheless! Always love hearing FFV be talked about still to this day
The Berserker is clutch for most of the game.
"Clutch" is a curious choice of wording.
@@ShinMajin I mean, if you can tell me a better way to empower your primary physical attackers by that much at that point in the game lemme know!

10:20 "Innate dual-wielding *single-handedly* makes this class insane.."
...wait a second...
Psycho Cyan anyone?
Here would be my list from worst to best:
I typically make my healer a free lancer and my support character that can use rapidfire, Mix + passives from ninja = mega OP
Mimic is a massively OP class for magic too. Duel cast with nearly all spell, summoning, and then blue magic to boot! The duel casting doesn’t work on the blue magic, but that is okay.
What do you think of the four from Advance? I really liked Gladiator. Commander was interesting. But I don't think I got Necromancer.
@@michealforguson5317 I've only ever played the PlayStation version.
Pretty sure Time mage has regen as a healing ability which is mildly useful on hasted allies.
Red Mage can break rods (but they lack magic pwr : ( ), can use healing staff to heal
Time Mage can break rods and equip healing staff
Blue Magic can't be silenced!
I remember relying on the Dragoon jumping ability to avoid Neo-Exdeath telegraphed move.
But yeah, beside that instance the job felt pretty useless.

Another random generated list. Time mage is one of the most usefully jobs, monks too. The berserker is hands down the worst.
Kick is great for taking out mobs, Time Mage has Haste, not even the *precious* White Mage can do that.
@@ThePageofRage dont forget about quick spell
Berserker plus X-Fight is hilarious
Monk's punch suffers from poor scaling. They have the highest Vitality and Strength that can be transffered to Freelancer but that's about it. I can argue that Berserker has some merit over Monk and they can work better in synergy.
Time Mage is indeed great, but they don't really offer anything too special since their best asset (Haste and Hastega) can be replicated with certain items, and Meteor is too random to be reliable.
@@i-evi-l Berserker can't use any active abilities (like X-Fight) because berserked characters ignore commands entirely.
I agree, it is poorly designed, but you must admit it was cool that you could make a makeshift dragoon in ffvi with the boots and Edgar
That design tho
i feel that if Jump's damage got boosted by equipment weight then it would make more sense...
i dont like it in FF14 either, bad memories... mainly death by animation lock.
Agreed. He should be like a fighting thief. High speed and agility. Lighter armor so he can jump and his spear would be light and long ranged

@@i-evi-l my thaughts exactly... i watched that vid too... you wont know gau's potential w/o a guide...
You've got such a soothing, calming voice David. Helps me fall asleep. 😍😍
In the OG version (aka emulator version) yes
They got EVERY pasive active, that means hp +10, hp +20 and hp +30 at the same time... Thing that was nerfed on mobile and steam version 💔
@@MolfredoSascha wait... WHAT?! The all stats buffs got nerfed on the steam/mobile version? Frick that, that was the best part of the freelancer class.
Mimic has the same stats as freelancer, but worse weapon options, i use those for magic focused builds since you can doublecast 2 types of magic.
@@mauricesteel4995 Yeah, I don't know why people think Mimes have "weaker" stats. It's the same idea for Freelancer but only can use daggers and stuff, like you said
@@edboy5418 No. Mobile/Steam version nerfed some gameplay mechanics but stat gains remain the same.

Ff5 Alternate title is Mel Brooks fantasy. The entire thing is funny from start to end. The Tree.
Man, I LOVED those tier names! Great list, by the way!
I disagree with all his bottom tier assessments except for the Berserker's.
Monk gets very weak in the late game and has to equip the Kaiser Knuckles to be able to deal damage at all in the lategame. You also have to eat all the magic attacks directed at you, and the Monk has no defense against statuses, level-halving or hp drain like graviga and maelstrom
Your tier names are great, thanks for another video!
interesting take, i think this tier list would be a lot different if the game were a lot more challenging. jobs like time mage could shine more if the buffs/debuffs were more impactful vs challenging enemies, cover from knight could be a lot more then it is....etc. in a vacuum the game is crazy crazy crazy easy, with a fantastic job system that deserved better
😂😂
Time Mage is the best job can equip healing staff, break rods, slow works on bosses, quick...
I just beat this game for the first time ever two nights ago. Neo Exdeath was so hard for me for some reason and I am a vet of the series.
That final form is tough as hell. FF5's final boss has been known for a long time now as possibly the most difficult final boss in the series. Not sure how it holds up with 13 or 15's final boss but yowza! Did you know you can avoid fighting Neo Ex-Death?
@@MiamiSunrise did you know the only way to get a onther copy of Murakumo katana and Ragnarok knightsword???
Exdeath is hard, but Zeromus is worse because your party has no versatility.
@@MiamiSunrise FFXVs final boss is weak as hell. You can beat him at the minimum of lvl 40 but at the end of the game, you should be around the 60s or 70s if you did some sidequests and hunts

Level 5 Death
Lvl 3 flare also works but I would say lvl 5 death is better

FFV is the most underrated FF title. Rarely even acknowledged! It's SO good! Customization and characters are 10/10
Monk may suck as a class, but it's one of the first you want Bartz and Faris (at least) to master, because it imparts the greatest strength stat in the game
@@TheRosswise The slight delay is about half a turn so you do 2x the damage in 1.5 turns. It's really not that great.
@@jm2270 Its not 1.5, more like 1.2. When I focus he usually hits while I am selecting what to do with the next guy in order. If you crit it is more like x6. Yes it is worth it, but Rapid Fire is better.
@@TheRosswise In the GBA version it's 50-70% of a turn, you can test it yourself with 2 monks on wait mode.
Always love seeing other people's opinions on job classes, especially when those opinions differ so wildly from my own.
Great video! I’m so happy whenever I hear someone say “FFV is one of my fav FF games.” Also the Ryan Reynolds part almost killed me 🤣
This is one of my favorite final fantasies too, i hope it gets a remake someday.
You should play this game with the Low Level Challenge, its very fun and its crazy how far we can get into the game with level 1-4 characters lol
I'll give a shot before watching: 1st is mimic
Edit: no way, I was wrong! However I still think it's the best haha
Geomancers can help with killing Skull Eaters, avoid spikes and holes, and their Geomancy in the floating fortress is good.
Well, every job have their benefits, you can use the benefits without grinding level, you can finish the game less than level 3 by using the jobs!
Oracle especially would have definitely been more helpful earlier in the game (with how high the encounter rate is in general, esp if you're actually going for the Brave Blade) and Gladiator would also have been a good addition to the phys fighters, esp since they can use bows as well (giving you more incentive to buy Ranger stuff too)
but yeah I don't think there's any saving Cannoneer or Necromancer (why is this the LAST job you get in the game?!)
Maybe if this was DQ or SMT, but this is FF where status ailments generally are worthless against enemies.
jbleichman Yep, it would be just for variety.
Same reason those Job Fiesta playthroughs/tournaments were started in the first place, I imagine.
I just finished FFV for the first time two months ago and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it because of the class system. Really enjoyed learning some things I didnt know and some classes to consider on a future play through!
I have said it once and I will say it again " The Green lantern" was one shirtless scene away from being a great movie.
with Dancer you can make Sword Dance Proc almost all the time with the dancer gear you can steal from the Phoenix Tower. and then with chicken knife or Freelancer with the brave blade can do massive damage with Sword Dance.
Ya, but you need to spent many times to master them
Time mage might be my favorite class in any RPG. it’s just so unique and gets really fun spells that range from support to offense.
That stinks about the dragoon class. Kain deserved his class to be treated better.
Freya does it some justice in Final Fantasy 9, and Cid is nice if he counts in 7, but I really can't say the same about anyone else *cough*Kimahri*cough*

Three words: Final Fantasy Dimensions. If you love FFV, play Dimensions.
Still praying for a 3D remake on consoles plz Squeenix 🙏
It worth it if you get on a promo. Class system is fine but still lacks in comparison to ffV.

Good morning, David. Thank you for the upload.
How? Both counter and cover are slotted abilities. Only a freelancer inheriting those skills can apply them for free.
@@jonathantifone8001 I've only played the GBA version. So as a knight or mystic knight, I'd add counter and the missing ability.
I used equip sword on a ninja and gave them the fire and ice swords. The 2 hits were combining for over 5k and this is just after returning from Galuf’s world
'time magic wasn't all that well thought out'
Yeeeeeeeh.. so like.. you might not know this but they're absolutely broken in a lot of ways rofl.
some players players often don't know how good Haste itself is, and that many enemies including bosses are succeptible to slow, and Quick is absolutely disgusting and an absurd power multiplier to any skillset you can apply it to.
I like getting !Lance for mages. The game even tells you to do that if you read the right book
Return + SwordDance, Break, or control
The class that I always liked was the Mystic Knight. When you get the best spells, Mystic Knight become a terror. In my opinion it is the best job on FFV
My Lenna was a Mystic Knight with Rapid Fire and she absolutely decimated bosses, lol
Nicely done, good sir. White Mages are a must in any RPGs. I've seen people do runs without them, but damn do you use a ton of healing items.
My DND class is Cleric. My real life class is basic bitch bard.
These tier names are absolutely hilarious.
Welp, now I wanna play through Final Fantasy V again xD
The Bard is a beast in that one dungeon near the end with undead monsters. That's about it.
He can stop-lock almost every monster and makes the game mindlessly easy
What I learned from this video: I don't have a chance with Davidinc. Dreams crushed.
You are no Ryan Reynolds?
More of a Gosling than a Reynolds, I think.
David don't fock with no scrubs.
RYAN REYNOLDS TIER!!!! I'm dying 😂
Everyome loves Deadpool
Especially once you master White Mage, Black Mage, and Time Mage.
exactly, monk is actually very powerfull, with barefist being amazing on healers for a good offensive on them.
Thanks, David. Your video lists are always a bright spot of the week!
Thanks for making this video, i've just stated a new game of FFV on the GBA and this job ranking video is pretty helpful 👍
Any tips for Freelancer with Blue Magic in FFVA? I've got some ideas, but nothing is set in stone:
Bartz: "Indigo" Mage (raw damage Blue Magic like Areoga; heavier armor and axes; Dual wield from Ninja)
Lenna: "Sapphire" Mage (technical Blue Magic like Goblin Punch; mid weight armor and Excalibur; X-Fight)
Galuf/Karil: "Teal" Mage (primarily White Wind; Guard is a must; possibly using staves)
Faris: "Cobalt Mage" (primarily Mighty Guard; Cover is a must, heavy armor and katanas)
Anything I can do to improve on this?
you can control the red dragon to flare itself and yellow dragon to hurricane itself into single digit hp.
you can control the reflect knight to cast a free reflect; opening up a vector for your mages to attack him.
control is an ability that not only robs a monster of their turn, but also turn their OP abilities against them.
for the casual player, control gets easily looked past. for people who know the inside of the game or have a guide, control is quite handy.
Top 10 Final Fantasy videos I didn't know I needed until I watched it. Thanks for this amazing video haha
Awesome round up, thanks for the fresh perspective.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really great video! Just started playing FFV today.
Wasn´t a party filled with Dragoons using Jump all the time the easiest way to take down Shinryu, one of the most powerful optional bosses of the game?
Nah just using a power staff makes him the easiest
Like most bosses, I think I giltossdd him to death.
Do you have any opinions on the new classes that got added ?
Awesome job on the tier list ranks. Ryan Reynolds my personal fav... Absolutely gorgeous! 👌
Time Mage class sucks. Time Magic is top tier.
I-V-l true but I don’t think you would want to stay in any of the mage classes once you’ve mastered their respective magic.
@@goremagician7972 Black mage was useful because it had the highest magic stat
I-V-l actually the summoner beats black mage by 2 points
@@goremagician7972 Really? I always paired time with white mage and summoner as black mage. Crazy.
IIRC, the Knight's passive ability Equip Sword also gave you a strength boost so you could actually use it. If I was grinding in one of the magic casting jobs, I'd use it. You can fight like the physical classes and save MP
You get it very late in the game...
