You're not playing the master's turn correctly at 51:05. You drew another Charging Drunk with a red symbol, which means the master gets 3 combat to his pool. He doesn't attack at that moment when the card is drawn; combat comes a little later in the master's turn. You should have placed the Drunk in your area and then the master will use him, adding 4 combat to his pool. Only then will the master attack you for 7 damage, which is enough to stun your champion and then deal the rest to you. In this case I think the end result was the same either way, but it may not always be depending on what cards are out.
At 1:27:40. You are playing the minions in the wrong order. The minions in the player's area should be activated first, followed by the minions in the Master's area.
I wanted to thank you very much for this video. I watched this and my daughter and I played the first scenario. We did not play the veteran level the one below it where you get to play the first hand without being attacked. She was the Fighter and I was the Cleric. We won very easily. She got some great cards right off the beginning. Her attacks were devastating. She tried to get Red and Blue cards. I tried to get Yellow and Green. It was awesome. I kickstarted this and Star Realms. I love them both. I play Star Realms on my iPad 3-10 times a day. So thanks for making this video, it was perfect for watching how to play and it got it to my table on my Birthday today.
That's fantastic, wetwillyccma! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the video, and that you were able to play with your daughter! It sounds like you both had a great time. :) Thank you for watching, and more importantly... Happy Birthday!!! :)
At 1:01:56 making the Master discard a card was not a legal play. 'Target opponent discards a card' requires you to target the master, and you cannot do that while there is a prepared minion in your play area. The wizard would have to deal with the minion first, which would mean not playing the Spark card until later in her turn so that its discard ability would have an effect.
Hello Steel Beard! Yes, it was technically done out of order, but Mandi had MORE than enough to remove the minion in front of her and it was going to be done anyway with the exact same result. When doing these live, it's easy to get slack with the order at times while trying to explain everything, and answer questions. In this case, explaining how "Discard a card" works was the important part of that turn. Thanks for watching!
Hello Jeremy and Greg! You do indeed need both the base and campaign expansion decks. The base set still forms your market. The campaign box provides all cards for the leveling system to upgrade your abilities and skills, and all of the cards for the villains. Thanks for watching!
Question: when you have a minion in your area, you cannot target anyone outside of your area until that minion is dealt with first. So say you have a minion that has a non-guard defense of 4, and you could only do 3 damage. Does your 3 damage pass through that minion straight to the Master (let's say in this case the Master doesn't have any elite minions with guard defense around it), or nothing happens at all since you didn't have enough to take out the minion in your area? I've seen these played both ways and would like to know which is the correct way. Thank you guys for the video!
with the 3rd encounter (Ruinos Archpriestess), when you draw one of the master's cards, does it trigger the removal of the highest cost card of EACH colour since all of the colours are favoured in this encounter, or just that one colour? we did it this way but that meant we were destroyed when we tallied up the number of each card. I think we had 7 cards of each colour.....any clarification would be amazing
PLEASE use plain play mats. I know its hero realms branded, but it's difficult to see what's going on. You could even try filmming the play area lower and at an angle as then we can see the cards better. mny thks
Hello misomiso! We debated about that before streaming, and were on the fence about it. Now that we know viewers don't enjoy the themed mats, we'll keep that in mind for future streams. Thank you for watching, and for the feedback.
Great play through Mandi and Mike, alas, I already play *five* card games, one of which is Legendary, (shakes angry fist at Arnim Zola, seriously anyone who can "climb Mt. @$$%#!&" deserves a medal! In other words? *Amazing* design.) another of which is Street Fighter, so I kinda' got deck builders covered. It still looks like a fun game with some great art! :)
Same, I love the idea of this game, but I already have multiple deck builders, including Legendary and Aeons end. A Deck builder needs to be significantly different to be worth getting at this point
I know exactly what you're saying. There is an abundance of selection for deck builders out there! If this was *just* the base game, I probably wouldn't have bothered getting it unless I didn't already have other games doing the same thing. The campaign box is what drew me in though. Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it, even though it isn't a game for you. :)
Right at the beginning of your play through you said you already had the Basic Set for Hero Realms though, and probably with character expansions I'd imagine. If that were me I would have jumped on this expansion too. It's still great to have so much variety because you never know when someone will bring it over and I have friends who ask me about games so it gives me more ideas for that as well. Will you be doing a play through for Dragon Gate? Um, please? :)
I already had the base game because I went all-in on the Kickstarter, which included the campaign box. But they were shipped separately so that people could play the base game while waiting for everything else. I may not have backed it if it was *just* the base set, as it would be very similar to Star Realms, just re-themed. The Character Packs, and Campaign Box add much more though! As for Dragon Gate, I have not played that, but I won't rule it out! We are more than happy to take requests if they are feasible. :)
Cool, thanks! Ever since I first saw it I've been interested. So much so that since I kept hearing it compared to Mahjong. One reviewer even said "Especially Ricchi Mahjong." (That guy is *so* lucky I never use thumbs down, for one thing, I'd run outta' thumbs!) So I went and looked up how to play. Don't ever do this. Now that I have, I feel that old Castle that your tearing down to build the new one *is* metaphorically Ricchi Mahjong. Mahjong boils down to collect four sets of three tiles and one pair from a 120+ "deck" of tiles that you must enact an Army of Darkness style ritual to even shuffle, heck the *seating* arrangement ritual was from Army of Darkness, actually shuffling the deck looked like something more out of Eldritch Horror with *all* the expansions! 0.0 Then you have to learn thieves cant to actually play your first hand, and take an advanced accounting class to keep score! Imagine if Stephan Feld's games had points of anywhere from 15,750 to 77,400 for all of the scoring! It's *intentionally* arcane. Among gaming "weight" classes this monster creates it's own gravity well and there's no reason for it. Dragon Gate's creators would do well to market it to Mahjong clubs. It's not just a "breath of fresh air", it's a renaissance! I can't wait for your play through. :)

Glad you like it, almsthvn! Thank you for watching! :)

Do you even need the base set for this? Or just the campaign deck and the character packs?
I have the same question.

"not so pinup-y tonight" HARD DISAGREE.
Thanks for the playthrough you guys, very interested in this game, now even more so

Look, it's 2017. Can't you really come up with a better quality? I feel as I was in 2001.
Doing my best with what I can afford, as this is done on my "free" time and on my own dime. But thanks for watching.
I thought the quality was stellar.
Hey Mark! Thank you for the kind words, and for watching! :)
