I'm glad you bowled in the regional, I think you did really good for someone who's still working on their swing. Keep it up man and remember "practice makes permanent"
As a bowling UA-camr I know it’s not very fun to record when you are bowling bad but you do a great job at still providing amazing content thank you for that bro! You’ll get a big tournament win soon just keep giving yourself opportunities!
Hi Michael! Sorry that you didn’t make the cut, but we all go through ups and downs in our game and in life, keep working at it and the rebound will happen soon. Thanks for sharing your weekend at the regional. Ken
love you and your videos michael. glad you’re following everyone’s advice. definitely feel like staying on one hand and perfecting it will give you what you want. you’ve been switching around too much but this is definitely where you are meant to be
How is the arm fatigue later in the block? Seeing you primarily holding in 1 hand the entire approach has me intrigued. I have been watching you for a while and love your message and drive. I appreciate the grind and see the improvement. Minor advice could work for you like it does me and some of my kids. When I start leaving flat 10s I move up 3-6 inches in my approach. Take it or leave it. Hope all is well and keep grinding.
Hey man, way to hang in there. I know where you are coming from. Watching you not use your left arm to help you hold balance has helped me be more consistent at the foul line by using my left arm to help me hold my balance better. Love your attitude that’s why i keep watching. Thanks for the help.
I love that you're sticking to making changes in your physical game and 'rebuilding' even when bowling competitively. All of those years of experience bowling are not for waste Mike its all experience in the end!
I felt the pain. Have had many nights just like this. Just keep at it. The best thing about bowling is when you throw that perfect shot. For about 5 seconds, all your problems are gone and the everything is fine.
When you switched to the purple hammer your form looked amazing with the low controlled backswing and the good shots struck, although as you saw ball motion was a little inconsistent. When you switched to the phaze 2 and moved left I noticed your backswing got higher lowering your rev rate which caused you to wrap the 10 a lot. When you switched back to the purple hammer your back swing looked the best and your ball was going clean through the pins. Keep at the low back swing it looks great!
This is Doug Stockton. Watching back this video and it looks like your balance is inconsistent but other than that I really like the progress you have going on
I mentioned his balance problem to him a week or two ago. He's a strong guy. It's working against him. He is off balance before release, at release, after release. That has to be fixed before anything else. He has to be able to hold his finish after every shot. Michael isn't even close to that now. Take away his much better than average strength and he'd be falling down.
I can see the progress keep it up and you’ll get it down I’m bowling with the new PHAZE 5 and I’m having a hard time too just keep practicing and we’ll both get what we want
Hey, you are out there doing it. Going out there with your swing in transition took courage. Plus, you got in 8 games of practice in a professional environment.
Really like the hi-res video and music in this one. Looking at your scores that weekend there were no horrible games, and from the video it looked like it was just one or two errant shots each game that were the big difference. Your release at the bottom looked pretty nice and from what you showed your spare shooting was more solid than had been in some previous regionals. From what I see you are making progress - keep your chin up and keep working. The physical skills are there, just got to work out the kinks and I can see you developing into a powerhouse.🙂
Man, I am sorry you didn't make the cut. But man, you were looking good!! .. keep at it .. keep at your improvements, I really believe they will pay off big time in the long run. You are improving all the time! .. you'll get there dude! .. just keep at it! .. you have a lot of talent, just have to perfect the form.
You got this, Michael. Thank you for sharing not only your hard work, but your struggles as well. I know you're searching for a swing and delivery that works for you ... go see Chris Warren in Plano Super Bowl! That man is so freaking smart about getting a bowler's angles right, it makes my head hurt. He drilled me a Duo, and spent 3 hours with me the first day, then plugged and re-drilled the other 2 balls I brought with me and spent 3 more hours with me! If there's ANYONE that can give you some outside objective feedback, it's him. Best of luck, I really enjoy your videos!
Either way, it was good exposure to a high caliber tournament. I know you wanted to do better, but there's always next time. We'll edited video, BTW. Very enjoyable.
Looking smooth again with that new Wayne Webb style. Don't give up on it, you'll eventually figure things out. Just believe in yourself. Love your videos by the way.
Its tough going through a rebuild. My advice is to make sure your mental game is getting as many reps as the physical. I went through a complete rebuild coming back to bowling after 8 years away due to health problems and after getting the nuts and bolts figured out (new insert style, etc) i discovered the next step was creating the repeatable procees and for me at least that solidified when made sure one of the last steps was to visualize the result. And then after the shot is over making sure my first thought was not a reaction but an analysis of what happened. Your body language seems like you are getting down even when the shot is good. Stay positive, stay analyical.
From an old pro....I think you should go to classic style cradling the ball with your left hand. Bend at the waist, knees relaxed while holding the ball below waist level to wherever is comfortable. When you start your approach bring the ball up a little then remove left hand and continue making sure to hold your follow through at the line. I learned to open my stance and face a bit to the right when needing to swing the ball. IMO this should keep you lined up to your mark and give you time to adjust at the release point. That's basically what you are doing now so shouldn't be a major change. Should keep the arm swing more consistent, keep the wrist under the ball with more feel to rotate however much you need to.
It looked like your scores were quite consistent. Always find the silver lining, my friend. I kinda wonder if your mental game may have been lacking a bit, especially given you weren't sold on participating in the tournament. From firsthand experience, that can be a momentum killer. Keep at it, Gonzales!
Suggestion: If you check out Wayne Webb vids (and ?? who shot 300 holding ball at side) you'll see they hold ball straight down, use a fwd swing 1st & then lock wrist in during backswing & follow thru. Holding ball like you do a bit out front w/wrist already locked in & little fwd swing has gotta be killing your wrist. Plus I see it pull you off bal as time goes by. I know you're strong, but you'll never last if you qualify. Arm down; fwd swing. Half the energy expended, twice the result. I'd switch 2 this style on long oil; get ball 2 roll more, no crank.
@@kingshabazz1310 ty…I’m a lil concerned that 220 may be tiring himself out on such a long block not using the left to at least hold the ball in place before getting into swing
Head up I'm with u on things just not feeling in sync and or just a comfortable auto pilot I bowled all growing up till graduation of high-school 215 average and coming back 6 years later I feel clunky and all over the place but maintaining a 207 avg in league buckle down on the work it will show u success
Glad you bowled and love watching your videos but honestly I think you are a stud and could be winning regionals as a two hander bc the way you stay up the ball so nice but I do not know much
Your ball motion is better when you stay behind the ball. You're to on top and or side of the ball. Try moving your pointer finger in closer to your middle finger. It looks like it's spread out to far. This will help you stay under the ball more and get around it better increasing your revs. You can also tuck your pinky to help get around the ball better if you need. TBH I'm pretty confident that you need a better fit on the ball (i.e. pitches/span). Your arm isn't very flexible most likely from lifting. I have the same issue so how the ball sits in your hand is VERY important. If the fit isn't correct for you then the arm and body wont allow you to release it properly, every now and the you will but it will be very inconsistent and as you know consistency is key. Hope this helps.
I feel for you on game 3 , I would be the world’s best bowler if the object of the game was to turn 230 games into 180 games in the 9th and 10th frame.
Dude I hate throwing the purple hammer for the first time because he always takes off. Then the next ball it just chills out and does Urethane stuff lol
would shortening the approach help? I’ve only been bowling since February. I find the pocket more often during my one step drills than with my full approach
Well that would matter at least but it depends really on the ball motion. I have a 5 step approach but sometimes i shorten my approach if i want to slow down my speed and bring in my speed by moving back. But, the point really of your 1 step drill is to feel the release, and I guess if you want to work on timing, that would be more on to the 3 step drill. If you're just doing the drills, I would probably just focus on getting comfortable on the uncomfortable part of the drill.
Can relate to that. I also just started in dec last year. Whenever im fatigue or inconsistently hitting the pocket i tend to shorten my approach or do like 2 short steps and proceed with the rest of the 3 steps like normal.
You went into it already defeated it’s pretty obvious during the video when you’re sick of it already lol . I’m no pro by any means but I think your balance at the foul line needs work more then your release (one hander or two hander dilema)
Michael the carry seemed brutal with so many ten pins on what looked like good hits. Frustration sets in and ball changes seemed to make it harder. Next time you will do it!
ive found that if my balls are over hooking, then i just pull in the index finger and leave the pinky wrapped around the ball. then throw the shot the same, it keeps is under control on shorter patterns
Kitties make everything better 😊 your swing plane looked better but your targeting was off some probably because you’re still not completely comfortable. Confidence plays a big part as well. When it’s high you bowl better when it’s low everything seems to go wrong. jmo.. thanks for taking us with you in these videos!
I love watching you bowl man, but you need to stay a bit more positive. The mental game of bowling is just as important, if not more important, than the physical. Also, it would help a lot to post your shots fully. Every time you released you feel off to the right. You should work on posting and staying in your post till the ball makes contact with the pins. This helps to train the muscles to hold the post. It is little tweaks here and there and you will be making those cuts so easy! Keep up the grind!
Changing things can be tough keep working at it. I dont really understand the change though to the no push off. I mean i get what you were thinking in trying it, but you never free up your swing at all in doing this, it keeps you in a tense very controlled position throughout the swing that makes it look like all muscle, which is hard to repeat. It needs to be fluid. I know everyone has an opinion and most of them stink, i just keep seeing you trying this and it just puts you in such a bad position through the swing and you still twist your body at the line. Keep up the work youll get there.
Love your content man. But playing a urethane on a reactive line 2 games off the fresh is bonkers bro. 20 to 10 with a purple hammer is just begging for 10 pins.
Some similarities to Wayne Webb, except WW’s pushaway and follow thru are much more repeatable and accurate, your pushaway directionally is very inconsistent and your hand position changes from shot to shot, causing the ball to hook up earlier or later, depending on what you do. Good luck to you. 👍💪🙏
It will be hard to keep balance while holding a 15lb ball below your waist on one side. Have you tried moving your ball up in front of you above the waist it will help with balance and swing back
The spare were you picked up the 6 pin and it was the 3-6-10 was so painful. I know once you figure out your swing you’ll be making cuts left and right and I’ll have to look for you on television at that point
I don't want to be a UA-cam coach, but it seemed you were short arming your follow through. I didn't see your follow through go above your shoulder. I don't know if you have a injury . I'm a big fan of the short back swing it keeps my timing in good rhythm. New technique always take a little time you'll be fine .
Commit to your shot no matter what and follow through!!! Your ball motion dies if you yank your hand back and your speed lowers. Think of it has a lift. Slow negative and a fast positive... As on a bench press. down slow, then fast up! point your pointer finger at your target, its called a pointer finger for a reason.
Part of the problem is when you try to do these fun videos you start to lose sight in maintaining your craft and people start to build bad habits! Throwing 6lb balls, 20+ lb balls. Trust we love them but if you're not where you want to be it will mess you up.
@220 Average Vlogs Originally when the main channel started you had a normal swing that looked good. Since then you've converted to two handed and now this unusual one hand "no support" method which really does not look like a good way to be a consistent bowler. Maybe I'm biased because my swing most closely resembles the original swing of yours but just my humble opinion sir, lol.
I think in a previous video he showed that the push away was sending his arm high and offline in the back swing. The no push away technique is, I believe, an attempt to keep the backswing muscle memory to keep it low and inside more (could be off on the inside part, but the high backswing went way outside). I don't think it is meant to be a permanent fixture in his game, but a technique to keep the backswing low and then integrate a push away that allows less muscling of the shot...a work in progress
You know what they say, gotta get back on that horse. or as they say around here.. "Put on your rodeo clown costume and wrangle that bull of life one more time!
Don't really understand the one handed approach. Seems like it would throw off your timing and also fatigue in that arm. I also think the 2 handed approach is strange...but then again I am old and I am also a purist when it comes to bowling. Of course everyone has the approach that works for them...My only suggestion would be find one and keep perfecting it....changing all the time will just throw everything off.....good luck! I enjoy your humor!
Film your last step and work on it. You are drifting way right into your slide most the time. That causes you to lose leverage. Whenever you have to try to get deep your ball hits like a pillow because of it.
your low takeaway into a high back swing takes a lot of enegy wasted that could be transferred into you downswing.you are strong, but wasting energy there..
Are you sure it's a good idea to go without a pushaway? This way you're basically forcing yourself to pull the ball up in the backswing. If your swing was free, you'd be roughly around waist high which is unusable for real play. I'd say the pushaway is essential
You sound very negative minded lately but one thing that helped me improve the most were actually the slumps. In this state you actually start thinking really hard about what's wrong and there are two options, you either give up (please don't) or you start working on fixing something and eventually it will start working out again. You're currently in the "everything is wrong phase" but this only means you managed to break away from your muscle memory - good job! But the main point is that I'm afraid you're really harming yourself by not using pushaway. I've suggested this in one of my previous comments on a different video but instead of no pushaway try swinging the ball freely before starting your approach and transition into the approach with the ball swinging (the timing is roughly that you start walking when the ball is behind you and starting to come back forward for 5 step approach).
Please go back and look, and I mean LOOK, at your good shots and you bad shots. Then work on what you did when you threw those good shots. I would recommend getting with a good coach and asking Forrest for some advice. Personally, I think you need to work on getting more “up” on your follow-through and not cutting it off at waist level. This should keep your fingers in the ball longer, al la Kris Prather. One more thing: only bring balls that fit you good. Good luck and keep at it.
Your mistake was going to the UA-cam comments for advice 😂 ask real people that you know and can actually help you. You're making bowling a 200 game look hard when really it isn't
You look really uncomfortable and me personally when I’m not confident bowling I’m all over the place once you get in your head then it’s over lol make changes but make sure your comfortable with them especially before bowling a tournament this will make for a longgggggff day !!!!!
I feel for you bro. I’m confident your hard work will eventually pay off. Also your music selection in this whole vid was 🔥🔥

4:38 of the video is the stance that I’m talking about having the left hand help support the ball till you drop it down and start the back swing
The spare were you picked up the 6 pin and it was the 3-6-10 was so painful. I know once you figure out your swing you’ll be making cuts left and right and I’ll have to look for you on television at that point
If the ball sticking to ur thumb y did u use sliding power that what I always use when that happends to me!
Hi Kitty and Mike.
Not that my critique means much, but an observation? Balance. Fundamental. If you improve your balance at the line youll be far more consistent.
You have a good looking cat!
Curious, why bring a ball that doesn't fit? Keep up the hard work.
That window of error is so small
I don’t plan on sticking with it forever.. just currently feels more comfortable than my game with a push away
Does the pushaway not work for you? I feel like no pushaway leads to inconsistencies with your approach
@@mikes5918 ok, gotcha, thanks
Should have went 2 handed. A lot of those 10s would have carried.
You know what they say, gotta get back on that horse. or as they say around here.. "Put on your rodeo clown costume and wrangle that bull of life one more time!
can you get a hand and use it to HIT the ball at the bottom?? flat had at setup cant spank an ass
Your game is looking good. Yu just need more time to get used to the changes and you'll be making cuts.
💯per cent agree.
Wayne Webb would be proud of you.
Purple is just better.
Gotta get through it at the bottom, cutting it short on every shot imo.
Just gotta be a bit more consistent better than usual
Gotta ask, why carry a ball to a tournament that doesn't fit your thumb?
Haven’t thrown it in over a year but it was probably the ball to throw
Film your last step and work on it. You are drifting way right into your slide most the time. That causes you to lose leverage. Whenever you have to try to get deep your ball hits like a pillow because of it.
your low takeaway into a high back swing takes a lot of enegy wasted that could be transferred into you downswing.you are strong, but wasting energy there..
Are you sure it's a good idea to go without a pushaway? This way you're basically forcing yourself to pull the ball up in the backswing. If your swing was free, you'd be roughly around waist high which is unusable for real play. I'd say the pushaway is essential
I’m not sure about anything
Should change your name to 180 avg bowler
Please go back and look, and I mean LOOK, at your good shots and you bad shots. Then work on what you did when you threw those good shots.
I would recommend getting with a good coach and asking Forrest for some advice.
Personally, I think you need to work on getting more “up” on your follow-through and not cutting it off at waist level. This should keep your fingers in the ball longer, al la Kris Prather.
One more thing: only bring balls that fit you good. Good luck and keep at it.
Why even try to throw anything other than the purple slammy? Obv the best ball ever made.
Carrying ball, not swinging. Bad balance from no easy rythm. Rock it a little more to get you started and establish a rythm.
Michael your follow-through is so bad. Sometimes you look like your off balance.. just saying. Keep up the great videos.. always watching.
Your mistake was going to the UA-cam comments for advice 😂 ask real people that you know and can actually help you. You're making bowling a 200 game look hard when really it isn't
Bro has never bowled on a sport pattern before 💀
FWIW, Watch your left arm, awful stiff and might be affecting over all balance.
You look really uncomfortable and me personally when I’m not confident bowling I’m all over the place once you get in your head then it’s over lol make changes but make sure your comfortable with them especially before bowling a tournament this will make for a longgggggff day !!!!!
