- In this, episode 5 of “Cooking the States,” we’re getting GASSED UP on SoCal-style fish tacos. Though very popular in southern Californian cities like Los Angeles and San Diego, these fish tacos actually came from the Baja-California Peninsula.

Thanks dude! We out here.
Some more Upper Peninsula of Michigan food options! Finnish food is very common there, so things like nisu, limppu, pannukakku, and korppu are common baked goods if you want something baked. Potato sausage and cudighi are also common, but the pasty (pass-tee) is by far the most popular. Maple syrup, thimbleberry jam, and chokeberry jelly are things you might be able to buy, but a lot of families either make it themselves or get it from friends. Fried fresh water fish (lake trout, splake, whitefish, smelt) is also super common and popular as fishing is a major pastime. Smoked whitefish dip is one of my favorites, too.
The UP is where it's at. It's such a gorgeous part of the country and doesn't get the credit it deserves... but honestly it's maybe better that way for the people who do know how dope it is, lol.
@@AdamWitt As a native Yooper, I certainly bristle at more tourism. But the fact is that the UP mostly exists on tourism money at this point, since so many people (myself included) and industries have moved away.
An interesting side effect of the pandemic has been more people moving to places like Marquette to escape living in big cities for work when they are now full time telework. I can only hope they will put their money into the communities instead of chasing people out.
Literally you are the best cooking channel i’ve ever seen. As a beginner I find you very helpful with lots of tips and how to cooking without stress. I would 💯 recommend you to any cook. Thank you.
I’m from WA and idk what our dish would be lol but I know it would involve seafood. Crab, salmon, clams, oysters… Manila clams in a simple white wine brothy/sauce with good bread is what makes me think of home the most.
Fisher scones, salmon, geoduck, razor clams, teriyaki, Beecher's Mac n cheese, Rainier cherries, apples... Probably other stuff.
Hard no on the Seattle dog, tho.
I'm stupid...
I saw WA and thought of Wiscansan. (Wisconsin, I'm just that dumb)
Amazing video Adam!!! Fish Tacos are so good!
Killing it Adam!
Lovin this video series. Keep it up.
South West style chili verde always makes me think of home. Particularly smothered over a breakfast burrito. It's the only thing I miss about Colorado. Big ass burrito drenched in green chili is the absolutely ultimate of hangover food.
mmmmm. Burrito....salsa.... need.
@@AdamWitt If you need info/recommendations for source material, I can totally hook you up.
@@Feetwos I appreciate that dude, but I already have CO figured out for this first round of videos. You'll have to wait and see *smirk*.

Love your videos, from Southend UK
Heck yeah! Thanks Coco.
Keep it simple brochef....Corn tort, fantickleishly good fried fish, pico and lime squeeze.. if you want to be all fit, then do grilled fish. That is freaky good too!
Baja Bay Surf n Taco in Ventura CA has the best Baja style FISH TACOS !!! #1 Fish taco .
Just commenting to tickle UA-cam in your favor. Incredible video as always.
Aww thank you :)
Anything from NYC!!! Maybe pizza or bacon egg and cheese?
Flower is superior for every occasion. I know corn is more “traditional” but flower just has a much better taste to me.
to each their own, I don't disagree in this case.
Great video bro.
Thanks dude.
you are awesome, gringo. 😊😊😊 much respect to you. i love how you confess to have worked in a food truck. best discipline ever. am not from the north part of mexico, ahem! but have learned to appreciate how food is so different from one region of mexico to the next. so flour tortilla tacos it is. too, what is tempura? haha think of little shrimps being prepared as if yum carnitas? nonsense! pulverized shrimp! 😂 anyways, grandma gives you a pass on how you make "salsa." she used to make me toast those damn chiles... alive! man, that was torture -- yet the good kind. working on my adapted taco version. i wanted to know if it was garlic i missed. you don't use garlic. laughter was oh, so good though. gracias! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽

Honestly, coming from Texas you'd think that barbeque is on the list (it is) but, it's only like number two on the list, The kolache is always always good when going back home, Passing them up is a mistake.
Watching from about an hour and a half away from The Fat Duck!

I’ve worked at that kind of place that served tacos on those holders. Lemme tell ya, you’re right! I didn’t make a taco for like 6 months after I was done working there lol, taco’d out
