Great video. What kind of cutter were you using? Was it some kind of small plasma cutter? I need something like that to do my metal replacement. Thanks.

I use a plasma cutter to get rid of the large stuff, making room to get in close, and then switch to cutoff wheels and air saws to do the detail cuts.

It would be cool to see the clock at the beginning of the video and then at the end - showing everyone how long it takes to get this type of stuff completed....

That may be something I can do in the future. Big projects like this one though often run into multiple days. I quite regularly start the day on one car and end up at the end of the day working on another. - its my way of dealing with frustrations. - you know rather than throwing tools. Jeff

What if you have to change everything. Rear tail panel. Inner outer wheel housing. And quarters. Should just cut it all out. But what do you use to hold it in place to keep it square.

Don’t cut it all out at once. You will never get it straight again. Well maybe not never, but it would take a lot of extra effort. If you have already cut it out or if your car was in a rear end crash that has left nothing straight, you will have to start with the trunk floor bolted to a straight frame. (Use all new body mounts) Then build up from there. Floor and inner wheel houses, then the quarters, tail panel and trunk lid - line everything up to the Dutchman panel and the trunk lid. Line up the front of the quarters to the doors, TACK and/or screw everything in place and then measure the outer wheel houses to see if they fit - probably won’t - then start adjusting everything again, and again, and again, and again.
      Good luck,
      Jeff

I haven't cut anything out yet. The body is off the frame. Bit it needs everything. Quarters. Full floor. Tail panel. Inner outer wheel housing. So I should start with the trunk floor?

In that case i would take about a million measurements and then weld braces every where and start with the floor and then the trunk floor (unless you can find a full floor including the trunk front to back) then the tail panel and after all that lines up the rockers and the quarters last.

Ah, so it looks like you did have to cut the quarter panel to fit that full trunk pan in there? This is a project that I will have to tackle someday, and the best I can tell you have to knock out a quarter to get the dang thing in there.

You don't "have to", but it does make things a lot easier. Most of the time if you remove the two qtr. extensions you will be able to move things out of the way enough to get it all in. But if you are doing qtrs. anyway, why not just make it easy on yourself.

NPD has a great supply of metal. I would start my search there.
      Thanks for watching!

Maybe if you put together a film crew to come do all of the filming, editing and other time eating stuff. :)
