    Another interesting coastal artillery location HH and EE! That is a strange door with the rivets in it, difficult to understand the need for the rivets. I can only guess that there must have been 6 or more gun placement sites? The support structures like the round observation post were unusual as well. Thanks for taking us along guys!

    So cool. Eagle Eyes sounds so young compared to today.
    Great to see how much tactics change. Even in just 30 years.
    Camouflage was not even considered to vital defence.

    Another excellent video production, HH. The C&C bunker looks like WWI, and the post with the circular plate was an azimuth unit with a phone in it. We have large-scale units in mountaintop fire watch towers. This is a great place to spend days plotting all the positions on a local map. Thanks for another video. You should be used to EE going high after BBG and walking the railings on the gun pit. Please stay safe and well, my friend.

  • @northernskys

    This fortress was obviously in use for quite along time. A lot of the curved structures, gun pits, and bunkers, look to be from between the wars, possibly from when Europe was re-arming against the German threat. The steel framework in the beginning looks, from it's almost fresh paint, and lack of rust, fairly modern, and may not even have been for military use, as I've seen similar frames used on scientific research projects. The Germans obviously did their own modifications, and it's possible that where there are sheer drop offs, as you showed us, there was a wooden structure, stairs or paltform, there, which is long gone. The concrete post with the metal plate on top is an early form of azimuth direction finding for artillery. It would have been impressive to see the Fortress in her heyday before she stripped. She would have been bristling with guns of all sorts. Thank you guys for sharing this amazing location with us. Looking forward to more impressive explores! Cheers to you both!

    That was quite interesting on how they used "bricks" for ammo storage and for along the walls I saw. The construction and or modifications must have been in the early part of the war. Great views! Thanks for getting this video out there for us to see. Take care.

    I always wondered why the Germans built or pursued the 'Atlantic wall' when they were able to defeat the Maginot Line so easily? Why not dedicate more resources to mobile forces to respond to an invasion force?

    • @fedupamerican6534
      @fedupamerican6534 5 днів тому +1

      The maginot line fell fast because they flanked it. If they were to have taken it head on who’s to say if they could have defeated it.

    • @Daledugahole
      @Daledugahole 5 днів тому +2

      Most German Generals and historians agree with you but the Atlantic wall was Hitlers idea, and well, let’s face it. He was slightly delusional .. 🤪

    • @sthrich635
      @sthrich635 4 дні тому +1

      Sorry but the answer was obvious, the Maginot Line was just a simple straight line on France-Germany border, while Atlantic Wall was covering the entire coastline for Western Europe. The two were not the same.
      And most importantly Germany was short on fuel as always and this limited the amount of mobile forces they could operate, obviously impossible to cover the entire coastline. The dictator made the only affordable and rational move to use fuel-free static forts and emplacements, and crewed them with low quality static units, so even if they were bypassed, some that couldn't be evacuated and surrounded was still not as much as a major loss for German military.

  • @andyjackson913
    @andyjackson913 5 днів тому +2

    Hi very interesting as usual the design of the original gun emplacements are very similar to some near me in Dorset England ours were built in 1892 I don’t no if I can add a picture.

  • @sthrich635
    @sthrich635 4 дні тому +1

    These Atlantic Wall fortification was built as a part of German defense plan to slow down Allied landing forces as much as possible to buy time for the mobile Panzer reserve which the Germans expected them to be delayed by Allied air power and insurgents. These forts close to the beaches were more sturdier against naval bombardment and not to mention cheaper than putting fragile expensive tanks close to the beaches at the start.

    Only reason I watched this video is because I couldn’t find a video of a sleeping cat in a Chinese hi rise 😂. Wonderful to see a location that the Germans took over to make their own. Definitely built different from what the Germans build. The fire and control bunkers are definitely different from what the Germans built. A lot of gun placement for such a small area. Thanks for sharing this interesting site.

    Well, third time is the charm. Watched this the night it was released but was pretty beat and didn't want to comment until watching it again. After dinner and finishing chores on Friday night I flopped on my favorite couch, threw a blanket over me, and one of my two cats flopped between my legs. Started watching and the next thing I knew part 1 was almost over. Have them in a playlist and had fallen asleep at the start of part 3 and slept through all of part 2 and woke up as part 1 was finishing. Took the hint and went to bed and both cats joined me.
    Finally got it watched tonight. The site is so fascinating. Find it amazing how similar coastal fortifications at that site look similar to the coastal fortifications here in my home state. Of course, I figure most sites built around that time frame were probably similar. Just a shame the idiots have to come and graffiti the structures.

    I always thought it was strange that they built the atlantic wall to protect themselves from the enemy, when they themselves were the enemy that invaded those countries. Just like when we fought the korean war an vietnam. We called the people of north korea an north vietnam the enemy when we were the enemy because we were in their country.
