I think it’s a known fact that Xperias processing (especially in raw) is kept to a bare minimum. And its lack of intense HDR actually helps the photo look more natural and less “phone like” (which can’t be edited off). Xperia is made to replicate an actual mirrorless while Xiaomi is made to be the ‘peak’ of mobile photography. I found this comparison to not do either phones justice in my humble opinion

That always was the problem with Xperia phones, their lack of proper processing in basic mode. The mainstream users voted the 1 V last out of any phones in MKBHD blindfold test and that's specifically what Sony has tried to address in the new VI with their over the top AI processing. Personally I couldn't care less about basic / auto mode as I shoot 100% of all my photos in raw but I know a lot of people can't get on with manual controls and therefore that's why it was important to show it here too. Telephoto lenses yeah, let's not go there. Shame on Sony for re-using the same sensors again in the VI 🙄
To be honest you can't go wrong with either. The mk V is probably the cheapest now and can be found at rock bottom prices on eBay, the 14 ultra just has the best hardware out of all of them and sits between the V and the VI in terms of price. Really down to what you want out of a phone 👍

I don't understand at all why Sony, in order not to compete with its own cameras, decides to lose to the competition in the smartphone segment by not using a larger sensor. Especially in a phone targeted at photographers. I say this with pain, because I just bought an xperia 5 v, but in your comparison, in many situations, the photos from the xperia, relatively, look like total crap.
I think it's due to various factors tbh. We "may" see a more pro device later on device if we go by all the rumours going around. But for their current flagship they didn't want to increase thickness (which you'd have to to accommodate a bigger 1 inch sensor and optics) secondly in terms of margins, seeing how Xperia as a whole is on the verge of not being viable, they are re-using cheaper hardware found in the last 2 gens sensor wise. They wanted to appeal to a wider audience (arguably a bad move to pull out of US matter if you want to broaden your audience but that's another conversation) so mainly worked on re-designing the software.

Can't answer that one for you unfortunately, everyone will have different needs. Someone might value overall battery life more than anything else. Someone else will only value having headphones jack and SD card more. Someone else my value the camera aspect more than the rest... There just isn't a "best phone". Depends on what you want a phone for then you cn make a decision based on your needs 👍
I have not used or even looked into the find n3 but being a foldable I guess that rules it out for not being able to cram the best sensors in there. The x100 pro not a bad phone but the dimensity chipset from what I've seen and heard from friends who do have it, hinders the battery life quite dramatically. The Leica lens treatment on the Xiaomi seems better than the Vivo. Macro is also stunning on the Xiaomi. The Xperia VI has last year's sensors all around and they've changed the software completely making it less than pro. I personally will not buy the VI. Again it's all down to preferences. I personally am happy with the Xiaomi for now and will keep an eye out for the next best thing 😉
@@UpsideLens My vivo x100 pro gets 2 days of use with avg use. Heavy day of photography will see it only last about 12-14 hours. That's pretty good in my opinion. My Sony Xperia 1 VI gets around 3 days off a charge, with avg use, and about 24-28 hours with a lot of photos. - Both phones do things differently, but I love the form factor of the new Xperia over my old Xperia V
The "issues" I had with the V (and subsequently with the VI in a following video I made) are to do with the sensor specs, not something that can be fixed, telephoto shots even on the VI are bad compared to other brands using much better and newer sensors.
All phones and cameras to a certain extent process the raw files, they have to, that's what gives a Fuji a Fuji look, a Sony alpha a Sony look and so on. Now there are various stages of processing. If you take a dng file from a third party like let's say motioncam pro you can actually dial in your own processing (aka amount of sharpness saturation, de-vignetting...) bypassing some (not all as colour science is kinda hard wired in anyway in conjunction with the ISP) of the manufacturers settings. The dynamic range, still, at the end of the day, is much greater on the Xiaomi and it's not surprising, much newer sensors than the the V (and the VI because they're the same as the V)
I don't think for the statue photo comparison that they focused both on the same spot, but great content overall. Also for the low light comparison, we can see on the xperia that it was blurry by shake, with a tripod it would've been sharper
I just wanted to do a fair comparison and if I was going to shoot handheld with one I wasn't going to use a tripod for the other. There obviously wasn't anything malicious here, just the fact the Xiaomi has a much brighter set of lenses all around and therefore faster shutter speeds at same ISO values. If it wasn't for the slight blur though, you would have seen even more noise so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise for the Sony 😅

In addition, it seemed to me at the first photo comparation there were a 16mm photo on sony side instead of 24mm one, is it possible? @@UpsideLens I am not advocating either Sony, I have an Ultra 14, my point was one of relevance as your title is Best Camera Phone of 2024 for Photography - the Xperia 1 V was released on May 11, 2023 so I would expect any 2024 flagship to beat it easily.
The VI wasn't out when I made this video. Fact remains that the V is still a better phone than the VI for photography. The 14 Ultra though beats both by a long margin.
I actually had to chose between the VI and 14 Ultra... and I still went with the VI. Simply because I hate the oversharpened artificial look of the 14 Ultra. But if it weren't for that... wouldn't have think twice to get the 14 Ultra.

Unfortunately using digital zoom will always give you less than desirable results even on a tripod. You need to stick to the "real" native focal lengths for best results

I had that conversation with someone on Reddit and had to double check myself as he made me doubt myself 😂 they both the same (well main camera) but the Xiaomi wouldn't stop focusing on the fence so had to move forward quite a bit and slightly to the right too. Check the exif of both photos to make sure and when I rewatched the footage I had on the action cam I realised I had moved a bit because of that fence. I see how that might look like it was on 2 different focal lengths
With the wide angles you do get a lot of fall off. I have a OnePlus Open and it is much better however if you shoot in high res. Don't know if that may help with the Xiaomi?
@@UpsideLens I like the comparison. But I think that mi 14 Ulta photos looks more detailed when you zoomed in due to high megapixel on it camera. 50MP Vs 12MP and some photo on Xperia looks good than 14 ultra. If possible make it with Xperia 1 VI Mr.☺️
@elishamfinanga8744 I will not buy the VI, like I said in my previous video they've re-used all the same sensors as the V, downgraded the screen and completely changed the camera UI for the worse. Results would have been again similar to this test seeing the hardware is the same as last year's V 👍
Nice video between the two camera systems! Interesting fact the telephoto on the Xperia MK1 V is a 40mp sensor but it was cropped to 12mp. The Xperia 1 V seems to take an okay macro style using the 24mm but using the 85mm max AI zoom, it's still no Xiaomi though. I had a Mi 10T pro quite a while ago and that did pretty nice shots. Talking about Bokeh the Sony with soft lights behind does some very cool things , the processing also keeps hair strands in focus so I agree some interesting things happening! I think Sony could implement so much in software but sadly you buy the phone and as mentioned after a year that's it. What is very impressive is video I believe the Sony can put out 150mb which is insane . I still like my MK1 V but the Chinese phone marker seems to really push the boundaries in photography Especially with the actual physical functions !

@sidersproductions941 using a 1 inch would definitely increase the thickness of the phone, no doubt about that, they tried with the Pro-i but they ended up not even using the whole sensor surface, again because they were lacking the distance between the sensor and the optics to make use of it and all because of that pursuit of keeping the phone as thin as possible. That's the reason. Now for the telephoto and UW god knows why they're still stuck in the past. Only Sony has that answer... More profit margins I guess ? 🤷
Well said. Agree. The newest and latest LYT 600 to 900 larger 1/2” to 1/2.5“ zoom sensors they are supplying to Xiaomi (here), Apple, Oppo and Vivo, etc says it all. The current sensor they used in their own Xperia V and even VI is 5 years ago, popularly used in the Huawei P30 series.@@sidersproductions941

It is but then the Xperia 1 VI has re-used the same sensors as last generation... Apart from extra reach to 170mm and added ability to take macro (which arguably are of poor quality due to again last gen sensors) then really it's all looking samey samey here. The only reason I have done this comparison is because to me the V was one of the best camera phones out there when it comes to software/hardware as a whole and it just happened I had both phones hence the comparison.
It's an overall good video, just some notes, I feel you should have mentioined something that I think is very important. If you look at the Xperia as a package, it really feels like you have 3 different cameras. Each sensor has its own weird processing and it doesn't feel like a cohesive camera experience, Main one is decent, Ultrawide is meh and Telephoto is just downright bad for a flagship. Each sensor has its own color science, sharpening algorythm etc, while on the other hand on the Xiaomi it truly feels like a camera with different lenses, each and every sensor produces pictures in a distinctive and cohesive way, where you can fully expect a certain result, while on the xperia it really feels random what the processing will do. Youi claimed on RAW that there is no processing done, the xiaomi does some processing, this is why the dynamic range is vastly superior to the xperia and the xiaomi has simply more detail due to 'superresolution' tech, this isn't just because it has a 1" sensor, this is simply because XIaomi gives you a lot to work with. If you shoot in RAW on the xiaomi, you can be very confident taking pictures, even in challenging lightning conditions, while on the Xperia you have to restrict your creativity a lot because of the much more limited RAWs. I think it's a bit sad you didn't compare manual modes, because there the xiaomi would have annihilated the Xperia even more as the heavily compressed JPEG's on the xperia really do make everything even more mush. Overall very solid video. I would absolutely recommend looking for GCAM ports and configs tailored for the XIaomi, the userbase for the xiaomi phones is huge and there are tons of configs that enhance the xiaomi so much more to the point where they are extremely DSLR'esk. I know this is more of an 'out of the box' test as you probably just got the xiaomi not to long ago, but once you found the true potential with MotionCAm (video) and GCam ports, itll open a whole new world for you as a photographer.
Thank you, you're absolutely right this is a "straight out of the box" comparison. Wouldn't have been fair to compare a gcam port to the Xperia seeing Sony pretty much locks their hardware/features preventing using it with other softwares properly. Now in regards to third party softwares with the xiaomi there's a major downside to every single one of them currently... Lack of variable aperture which is probably one of the most important features ! I did indeed brush the subject of lack of cohesion in terms of colour science on the Xperia between their lenses and also said that the Xiaomi fared much better here. In regards to manual mode I agree but it wouldn't have been apples to apples seeing settings from one device would have been different to the other and I didn't want to be called out for favouring one device over the other by having to choose let's say a higher ISO on the Xperia to take the same shot the Xiaomi could have taken at a lower ISO and therefore introducing noise, if that makes sense.
I like what you doing here and I see some Sony fans do not understand a point and keep saying that Xperian in RAW in some points, in some situations will do better and is more professional to have worst source material because looks more natural and things like that. Who cares that's phones only, not professional gear that is just a first step in many to achieve right effect, in phone you want do picture which is best in sharpening, zoom, colors, and few basic things tak make fast made picture look good. That why IPhone was called best camera phone for long, because deliver best photos in 1 secund not after spending hour for post proces customization. And now Xiaomi and other Chinese companies deliver what we need, semi professional look in a blink of eye. thats it. And what is second important for me, those who want put bit more time in post production can achieve even better results, that's great. You cant cheat reality!!!
I think the RAW files from Xiaomi are simply processed a lot more. It's the same with the iPhone The colors in the RAW files and also the sharpness are very suspicious.Regardless, I wouldn't buy a Chinese device and this one is really, really ugly.I would immediately buy a compact full-format camera. I mean up to what point is a smartphone still smart.The telephoto camera on the one Mark 5 is really not good but from what I've seen so far I like it much better on the 1Vi The blur is not because of the small sensor but rather because of the optics and I think Sony has made a lot of improvements there.And you probably left the sensor so small because of the macro capability and you have to say that the Sony Xperia 1vi will beat the Xiaomi.....
Completely agree "Chinese" brands are not for everyone and their looks are totally up for debate, it's just a matter of taste I guess. In terms of macro, there is no question, the VI is vastly inferior to the 14 ultra, by a large margin. The processing on those out of focus areas is terrible and micro detail is mostly lost in compression. I have downloaded a large amount of various macro shots that were uploaded and I'm really not impressed !
Pretty much yes, I just wish they ironed out a few bits and pieces that would truly make it a champion, like make the sensor crop 2x and 10x available in pro mode in raw, being able to shoot RAW + 50mp on all lenses instead of just the main lens, allow burst mode in pro mode, and update the photo grip to allow for focus lock on half shutter press... That would make it the perfect camera phone of 2024 !
@@UpsideLens What I miss is not being able to shoot log across all lenses especially in the director's mode. 3rd party apps are able to achieve this. There should've been 4k 120 on all lenses. If all that was in place, I could call it the perfect phone ever existed. I also made a video on its ai generated moonshot in daylight. It's on my channel.
@rusirubatuwatta8731 I disagree sensor size is definitely everything ! Shallower depth of field, much larger area to gather light... In the case of the pro-i it is widely known they never made full use of the 1 inch, it was a marketing trick at best since they only used 60% of the surface of the actual sensor (due to slim design and not enough distance between sensor and optics)
It's in the title of the video mate, mk V. Having said that the VI reuses all same 3 sensors so apart from extra processing in auto jpg mode the results are largely similar with the same constraints as the V but with a longer lasting battery, a brighter lower resolution screen and the ability to take macro shots

Thank you for the comment, it was not an error, someone else made this comment and I sent the proof on Reddit, the only difference was that I had to move slightly due to the metal fence in front of me when shooting. I double checked the raw files as I was doubting myself but nope it is all correct 👍
No real telephoto focal lengths for a start is not "best camera of the year" in my books. You can't just simply zoom in on a sensor crop and call yourself a telephoto, goes against everything photography stands for ! Besides no global rom = no buy, sorry

No offence but dimensity sucks. Poor battery life is not something I can live with. And the new ultra hasn't got real telephoto focal lengths just a zoom in by sensor crop, which is really not my cup of tea

Unless I plan on changing my job to russian spy it makes little difference to me which company I go for. I cross the line at the bare minimum of being able to access native Google app and having a global rom release. To each their own I guess 👌

The review is not biased... Please look at my actual Xperia 1 VI review where I compare it to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, there is no question that when it comes to quality the Xperia 1 VI doesn't do very well due to many factors highlighted in the video. I bought the Xiaomi 14 ultra with my own money, I used to own the Xperia 1 V and a subscriber lent me their Xperia 1 VI to do the review so this video is not biased by any means, I don't get paid by any of the said brands , the shots shown in the videos show the results...
Unfortunately I will have to disagree. Having tested the Xperia 1VI I can positively say that the macro mode is not very good and here are the reasons why. No RAW macro mode, only very compressed jpg, then there is no autofocus when in macro mode, then the 48mp mode is not available when shooting macro, the stabilisation is hopeless when using macro and lastly, due to using the old telephoto sensor (the one used in the Xperia 1IV) the detail is very mushy and the bokeh ends up not looking pleasing but very processed overall.
Can’t believe how crap Sony is with the Xperia cameras considering they make out it’s got all Alpha technology and how they make cameras. Utter rubbish. I’ve got the 5 and 5mk4 along with Pixel7pro and Pixel 5. Sony is worthless. Not worth a single penny not even second hand!
What makes Sony great (well at least up until 1 V) is the software ! Have said it times and times again, competition needs to catch-up big time. A better hardware is nothing without a good UI, having said that they went and ruined it all with the mk VI 🤦

It is fair... Sony makes the damn sensors Xiaomi uses ! Why not using it in their own phones ! Even the Xperia VI uses the exact same sensors as the V. It's like saying it's not fair to compare an iPhone 15 pro max to a Samsung s24 ultra because they have different chipset ! Seeing Sony is charging flagship money for their phones it's only fair to compare it to another flagship ! Heck had I compared it to the VI which is much much more expensive than the Xiaomi the same flaws would have shown due to using the same sensors.
This is a complete fiasco for Sony. Only blind Sony fans can deny it... I think Sony should just give up. They have no chance against big brands in mobile phone tech. They are only losing money... Btw. I am not against Sony. I love their cameras (I mean real cameras, not phone cameras).
In all fairness the VI is a decent all rounder for average Joe, excellent battery life, better form factor (to me anyway) and giving the user lots of different photo modes... Just not for the photo enthusiasts anymore. Oh and the price is just too high 😅

I use the Sony 1 mark 5, I am by no means interested in buying the 6 because the phones look exactly the same. Only thing missing is the 4k display.

Correct, much newer and bigger ones than Sony use in their own devices
I think Xiaomi does the same thing as Apple with the RAW files, which is also corrected internally
All phones and cameras to a certain extent process the raw files, they have to, that's what gives a Fuji a Fuji look, a Sony alpha a Sony look and so on. Now there are various stages of processing. If you take a dng file from a third party like let's say motioncam pro you can actually dial in your own processing (aka amount of sharpness saturation, de-vignetting...) bypassing some (not all as colour science is kinda hard wired in anyway in conjunction with the ISP) of the manufacturers settings. The dynamic range, still, at the end of the day, is much greater on the Xiaomi and it's not surprising, much newer sensors than the the V (and the VI because they're the same as the V)
I don't think for the statue photo comparison that they focused both on the same spot, but great content overall.
Also for the low light comparison, we can see on the xperia that it was blurry by shake, with a tripod it would've been sharper
I just wanted to do a fair comparison and if I was going to shoot handheld with one I wasn't going to use a tripod for the other. There obviously wasn't anything malicious here, just the fact the Xiaomi has a much brighter set of lenses all around and therefore faster shutter speeds at same ISO values. If it wasn't for the slight blur though, you would have seen even more noise so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise for the Sony 😅

In addition, it seemed to me at the first photo comparation there were a 16mm photo on sony side instead of 24mm one, is it possible? If not I didn't understood why 24mm on sony look wider than 23mm on xiaomi.

@@UpsideLens I am not advocating either Sony, I have an Ultra 14, my point was one of relevance as your title is Best Camera Phone of 2024 for Photography - the Xperia 1 V was released on May 11, 2023 so I would expect any 2024 flagship to beat it easily.
The VI wasn't out when I made this video. Fact remains that the V is still a better phone than the VI for photography. The 14 Ultra though beats both by a long margin.

I actually had to chose between the VI and 14 Ultra... and I still went with the VI. Simply because I hate the oversharpened artificial look of the 14 Ultra.
But if it weren't for that... wouldn't have think twice to get the 14 Ultra.

Unfortunately using digital zoom will always give you less than desirable results even on a tripod. You need to stick to the "real" native focal lengths for best results

4:30 the Sony appears much wider like it's on the ultra wide?
I had that conversation with someone on Reddit and had to double check myself as he made me doubt myself 😂 they both the same (well main camera) but the Xiaomi wouldn't stop focusing on the fence so had to move forward quite a bit and slightly to the right too. Check the exif of both photos to make sure and when I rewatched the footage I had on the action cam I realised I had moved a bit because of that fence. I see how that might look like it was on 2 different focal lengths
With the wide angles you do get a lot of fall off. I have a OnePlus Open and it is much better however if you shoot in high res. Don't know if that may help with the Xiaomi?

@@UpsideLens I like the comparison. But I think that mi 14 Ulta photos looks more detailed when you zoomed in due to high megapixel on it camera. 50MP Vs 12MP and some photo on Xperia looks good than 14 ultra. If possible make it with Xperia 1 VI Mr.☺️
@elishamfinanga8744 I will not buy the VI, like I said in my previous video they've re-used all the same sensors as the V, downgraded the screen and completely changed the camera UI for the worse. Results would have been again similar to this test seeing the hardware is the same as last year's V 👍

Interesting fact the telephoto on the Xperia MK1 V is a 40mp sensor but it was cropped to 12mp.
The Xperia 1 V seems to take an okay macro style using the 24mm but using the 85mm max AI zoom, it's still no Xiaomi though.
I had a Mi 10T pro quite a while ago and that did pretty nice shots.
Talking about Bokeh the Sony with soft lights behind does some very cool things , the processing also keeps hair strands in focus so I agree some interesting things happening!
I think Sony could implement so much in software but sadly you buy the phone and as mentioned after a year that's it.
What is very impressive is video I believe the Sony can put out 150mb which is insane .
I still like my MK1 V but the Chinese phone marker seems to really push the boundaries in photography

@sidersproductions941 using a 1 inch would definitely increase the thickness of the phone, no doubt about that, they tried with the Pro-i but they ended up not even using the whole sensor surface, again because they were lacking the distance between the sensor and the optics to make use of it and all because of that pursuit of keeping the phone as thin as possible. That's the reason. Now for the telephoto and UW god knows why they're still stuck in the past. Only Sony has that answer... More profit margins I guess ? 🤷
Well said. Agree. The newest and latest LYT 600 to 900 larger 1/2” to 1/2.5“ zoom sensors they are supplying to Xiaomi (here), Apple, Oppo and Vivo, etc says it all. It is but then the Xperia 1 VI has re-used the same sensors as last generation... Apart from extra reach to 170mm and added ability to take macro (which arguably are of poor quality due to again last gen sensors) then really it's all looking samey samey here. The only reason I have done this comparison is because to me the V was one of the best camera phones out there when it comes to software/hardware as a whole and it just happened I had both phones hence the comparison.
There’s seems to be more than 1mm difference in focal length.
It's an overall good video, just some notes, I feel you should have mentioined something that I think is very important. If you look at the Xperia as a package, it really feels like you have 3 different cameras. Each sensor has its own weird processing and it doesn't feel like a cohesive camera experience, Main one is decent, Ultrawide is meh and Telephoto is just downright bad for a flagship. Each sensor has its own color science, sharpening algorythm etc, while on the other hand on the Xiaomi it truly feels like a camera with different lenses, each and every sensor produces pictures in a distinctive and cohesive way, where you can fully expect a certain result, while on the xperia it really feels random what the processing will do.
Youi claimed on RAW that there is no processing done, the xiaomi does some processing, this is why the dynamic range is vastly superior to the xperia and the xiaomi has simply more detail due to 'superresolution' tech, this isn't just because it has a 1" sensor, this is simply because XIaomi gives you a lot to work with. If you shoot in RAW on the xiaomi, you can be very confident taking pictures, even in challenging lightning conditions, while on the Xperia you have to restrict your creativity a lot because of the much more limited RAWs.
I think it's a bit sad you didn't compare manual modes, because there the xiaomi would have annihilated the Xperia even more as the heavily compressed JPEG's on the xperia really do make everything even more mush.
Overall very solid video.
I would absolutely recommend looking for GCAM ports and configs tailored for the XIaomi, the userbase for the xiaomi phones is huge and there are tons of configs that enhance the xiaomi so much more to the point where they are extremely DSLR'esk. I know this is more of an 'out of the box' test as you probably just got the xiaomi not to long ago, but once you found the true potential with MotionCAm (video) and GCam ports, itll open a whole new world for you as a photographer.
Thank you, you're absolutely right this is a "straight out of the box" comparison. Wouldn't have been fair to compare a gcam port to the Xperia seeing Sony pretty much locks their hardware/features preventing using it with other softwares properly.
Now in regards to third party softwares with the xiaomi there's a major downside to every single one of them currently... Lack of variable aperture which is probably one of the most important features !
I did indeed brush the subject of lack of cohesion in terms of colour science on the Xperia between their lenses and also said that the Xiaomi fared much better here.
In regards to manual mode I agree but it wouldn't have been apples to apples seeing settings from one device would have been different to the other and I didn't want to be called out for favouring one device over the other by having to choose let's say a higher ISO on the Xperia to take the same shot the Xiaomi could have taken at a lower ISO and therefore introducing noise, if that makes sense.
I like what you doing here and I see some Sony fans do not understand a point and keep saying that Xperian in RAW in some points, in some situations will do better and is more professional to have worst source material because looks more natural and things like that. Who cares that's phones only, not professional gear that is just a first step in many to achieve right effect, in phone you want do picture which is best in sharpening, zoom, colors, and few basic things tak make fast made picture look good. That why IPhone was called best camera phone for long, because deliver best photos in 1 secund not after spending hour for post proces customization. And now Xiaomi and other Chinese companies deliver what we need, semi professional look in a blink of eye. thats it. And what is second important for me, those who want put bit more time in post production can achieve even better results, that's great. You cant cheat reality!!!
I think the RAW files from Xiaomi are simply processed a lot more. It's the same with the iPhone The colors in the RAW files and also the sharpness are very suspicious.Regardless, I wouldn't buy a Chinese device and this one is really, really ugly.I would immediately buy a compact full-format camera. I mean up to what point is a smartphone still smart.The telephoto camera on the one Mark 5 is really not good but from what I've seen so far I like it much better on the 1Vi The blur is not because of the small sensor but rather because of the optics and I think Sony has made a lot of improvements there.And you probably left the sensor so small because of the macro capability and you have to say that the Sony Xperia 1vi will beat the Xiaomi.....
Completely agree "Chinese" brands are not for everyone and their looks are totally up for debate, it's just a matter of taste I guess. In terms of macro, there is no question, the VI is vastly inferior to the 14 ultra, by a large margin. The processing on those out of focus areas is terrible and micro detail is mostly lost in compression. I have downloaded a large amount of various macro shots that were uploaded and I'm really not impressed !

Pretty much yes, I just wish they ironed out a few bits and pieces that would truly make it a champion, like make the sensor crop 2x and 10x available in pro mode in raw, being able to shoot RAW + 50mp on all lenses instead of just the main lens, allow burst mode in pro mode, and update the photo grip to allow for focus lock on half shutter press... That would make it the perfect camera phone of 2024 !
@@UpsideLens What I miss is not being able to shoot log across all lenses especially in the director's mode. 3rd party apps are able to achieve this. There should've been 4k 120 on all lenses. If all that was in place, I could call it the perfect phone ever existed. I also made a video on its ai generated moonshot in daylight. It's on my channel.

@rusirubatuwatta8731 I disagree sensor size is definitely everything ! Shallower depth of field, much larger area to gather light... In the case of the pro-i it is widely known they never made full use of the 1 inch, it was a marketing trick at best since they only used 60% of the surface of the actual sensor (due to slim design and not enough distance between sensor and optics)

Having said that the VI reuses all same 3 sensors so apart from extra processing in auto jpg mode the results are largely similar with the same constraints as the V but with a longer lasting battery, a brighter lower resolution screen and the ability to take macro shots

Thank you for the comment, it was not an error, someone else made this comment and I sent the proof on Reddit, the only difference was that I had to move slightly due to the metal fence in front of me when shooting. I double checked the raw files as I was doubting myself but nope it is all correct 👍

Please look at my actual Xperia 1 VI review where I compare it to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, there is no question that when it comes to quality the Xperia 1 VI doesn't do very well due to many factors highlighted in the video. I bought the Xiaomi 14 ultra with my own money, I used to own the Xperia 1 V and a subscriber lent me their Xperia 1 VI to do the review so this video is not biased by any means, I don't get paid by any of the said brands , the shots shown in the videos show the results...

Unfortunately I will have to disagree. Having tested the Xperia 1VI I can positively say that the macro mode is not very good and here are the reasons why. No RAW macro mode, only very compressed jpg, then there is no autofocus when in macro mode, then the 48mp mode is not available when shooting macro, the stabilisation is hopeless when using macro and lastly, due to using the old telephoto sensor (the one used in the Xperia 1IV) the detail is very mushy and the bokeh ends up not looking pleasing but very processed overall.
They are not the top camera phones of 2024.

Can’t believe how crap Sony is with the Xperia cameras considering they make out it’s got all Alpha technology and how they make cameras. Utter rubbish. I’ve got the 5 and 5mk4 along with Pixel7pro and Pixel 5. Sony is worthless. Not worth a single penny not even second hand!
What makes Sony great (well at least up until 1 V) is the software ! Have said it times and times again, competition needs to catch-up big time. A better hardware is nothing without a good UI, having said that they went and ruined it all with the mk VI 🤦

Seeing Sony is charging flagship money for their phones it's only fair to compare it to another flagship ! Heck had I compared it to the VI which is much much more expensive than the Xiaomi the same flaws would have shown due to using the same sensors.

In all fairness the VI is a decent all rounder for average Joe, excellent battery life, better form factor (to me anyway) and giving the user lots of different photo modes... Just not for the photo enthusiasts anymore. Oh and the price is just too high 😅
