- This year marks the 25th annual presentation of the Obermayer Awards. The awards were founded by Dr. Arthur Obermayer and Dr. Judith Obermayer to honor people and organizations who have worked creatively and selflessly to raise awareness of Jewish history and culture in their communities, and to fight the rise of hate, prejudice, and antisemitism.
Including this year’s honorees, we have celebrated 154 winners from communities across Germany. They have dedicated countless volunteer hours to restoring cemeteries and synagogues, developing educational programs, staging exhibitions, tracing genealogy, organizing events to build public awareness, and much more. In whole, their work advances the cause of intergenerational and intercultural healing.
The Awards ceremony is hosted by the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, and the President of the Berlin Parliament, Cornelia Seibeld, and marks Berlin’s observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Awards are presented by Widen the Circle and cosponsored by the Leo Baeck Institute.
