I'm reading through all the comments and their replies. It's kind of upsetting how some people don't realize that the gymnasts actually did well for their first time doing parkour, and vice versa, the men did well in gymnastics. The moves they performed were not perfect, which is obvious enough. The gymnasts were stiff doing parkour because that's how they were trained. To stick the landing. The parkour instructors were loose in their landings because, you guessed it, they were instructed to be ready to move. It is hard to break habit.
They were amazing. I do dance so sometimes people ask me to show them something and to be honest: most people have no idea what their body is actually doing. All of them did great
Also women tend to have longer legs and shorter torsos, proportion wise, so when they were jumping over the box and being asked to tuck their legs through their arms that would be a lot more difficult than for a man. Men tend to have shorter legs and longer torsos. So a lot of moves are based on body dynamics of the sexes.
tbh its natural cause they probably teach a lot of people and like at any level of skill you can fall. So its like just a safety precaution plus its their first time learning it so chill
@@LarissaDawn yeah, it's a matter of safety. they all recognised how skillful the girls were, but it's essential to assure a student who does parkour for the first time is safe
@@LarissaDawn even in gymnastic competitions with professional gymnast with years of training have people spot for them but you're triggered here when they are learning parkour for the first time?
Gymnastics Coach here - the landing is the first thing we teach little ones in gymnastics! so coaching that out of people is borderline impossible after they've been taught it all their lives! for example, I point my toes when I side-step in rugby, even though I haven't actually trained for years!
Not equitable. Parkour is about adapting to variables and gymnastics is about rigid control. Of course the Parkour guys are not going to follow classic form easily, they weren't trained that way. I had the same thought about really top notch gymnasts-they will automatically point their toes and stick as rigid a landing as possible because after doing it that way so long with such high stakes it's muscle memory. They would struggle hard with Parkour. All kudos to these ladies, though, they did well.
Can we just talk for a second about how these men were so supportive and protective of these women. Absolutely chivalrous to the tenth degree. Arms out, waiting to ensure their safety, I mean, that was so heartwarming. I truly think it was amazing to see. Both groups could experience new things in a completely safe environment. Men could be expressive and women could be dangerous in a safe environment. May all of them NEVER CHANGE
They’re so ridiculously overprotective it stressed me out. Especially with the bars thing. Like the women did great and they were “I got you I got you” with their arms all around them. How can you be confident and focus with that?
@La Austin I understood it more like they are all parkour instructors and they are probably used to newbies letting go before time or getting hurt so they just prepare themselves to help them out or catch them. To them the girls were newbies at parkour and treated them as such to prevent any accident.
Remember that these guys are used to instructing kids. It's just second nature to look out for the people doing it for the first time, regardless of their skills in other areas.
They are NOT similar. Seriously there’s so many differences like landing, transitions, exercises that they have to do, and many other things. Do not ever see them as “similar” cause they’re not. Please do actual research before stating a wrong opinion on a public website
It’s crazy how powerful the gymnast’s front flips landed. Can you imagine the destruction if they front flip kicked you in the head? Like a one hit kill.
@@Jojo-bg1re also, in parkour, you wanna keep going and even if you don't break a leg/ankle/foot, sticking a super stiff, hard landing would be really counter productive.
@@catsi563 I agree, however, most parkour is very choreographed as well. It's extremely rare for a traceur to legitimately train with no prior knowledge to the terrain ahead and all the obstacles within it. Most of us look around the area, check the dangers of the place (unstable walls, loose bricks, shaky hand rails, etc), then we come up with a line (a line or a run, is a short sequence of obstacle transversing that's been premeditated and planned out, kind of like an obstacle course). After the line has been thought of, we do each step of the line individually (if it's difficult or scary anyways, if it's easy then we'll go right away). Once feeling comfortable with every step of the run, we commit. We may fail sometimes, but we don't stop until we complete the run perfectly, usually anyways.
@@prefix253 I disagree slightly. theres a difference between a choreographed routine like gymnastics and Parkour where sure I grant you they might study the terrain but when the time comes to actually run they tend to wing it on the fly. Still I do agree that most traceurs get to know the terrain really well ahead of time.
@@prefix253 This, very much! The reason why there's less traceurs getting hurt in parkour than football players in football is because we prepare our runs by trying out separate sections at a time and we also know and test our own and the surface's boundaries before doing the entire run.
@@catsi563 No, I'm telling you, as a traceur myself, we hardly ever wing it on the fly. Everyone in my community comes up with a line, and everyone even on UA-cam does the same thing. Check out the big parkour channels on UA-cam, such as Storror, Team Farang, Tempest Freerunning, Motus Projects, Sqvadron, Mareo Gang, etc. They all do the same thing that I've said. Sure there's some cases where we "go with the flow', but the majority of the time, we flow through a run we've already thought of and practiced numerous times.
They're probably used to seeing 20 and 30 year olds completely out of shape, who try out parkour for the first time. I really think they were impressed by how fast these girls learned these moves, and it's obviously expected that they were not gonna master it on their first day.

I think one of the biggest differences I noticed between the traceurs and the gymnasts was how they landed everything. In Gymnastics, landings are a major component that have just as much importance as the routine and need to be hit with strength and intensity. Parkour landings, while they do need to be solid for precision landings, are more about being light on your feet so you can have options over where to go next. It's much more fluid and opportunistic rather than the final impact. I really liked this video.
We are sorry that you view strength, flexibility, control, balance and mobility training such as this childish. You might prefer to spend an hour on a treadmill or lifting weights. We prefer to continue doing things that regular people can’t even do.

I was good at anything you‘d use in gymnastics or circus as a kid but only cause we did ball sports alone pretty much in elementary school I though where I was good at there was no „real sport“ that would translate to it :( Anyway I am super glad at least as an adult I got into circus training like bet te r later than never and it really does feel like still playing! Like they say „you don‘t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing“
what do you mean? gymnasts are always known for their strength and always appreciated. for me, the parkour people are always underappreciated for their strength.
Inquisitve m I mean both views are true but I think people that do parkour project a stronger image to people because they do it in an uncontrolled and sometime extreme environment which make people think that it requires greater strength Meanwhile gymnast are mostly known for swinging on a bar, jumping on a beam and dancing. It’s not really a matter of what’s harder (both are hard in different ways) but what projects an image of strength. Graceful rarely translate to strong to the masses, while extreme sports do
BS, anyone who has done high school PT has a bit of experience with it and what strength it takes, ESPECIALLY if you can make it look graceful. No one who has watched Olympic gymnastics has missed the muscle development on female gymnasts. And these guys never disparaged the gymnasts, they were very encouraging and appreciative of the progress they made.
Barbara Danley to be clear, I said being graceful does not translate to the masses as hard or strong, NOT that being graceful is an easy thing. I’m pretty sure that for all sports, if you’re not a fan, the masses will only look at things superficially. Doesn’t matter if you tried it at PE, the first image it projects is that gymnastics is an indoor sport, and majority of the people in it are women.

The urge to salute after landing, Or complete the moves with the hands and arms above that must’ve been in their minds and body wanting to do it automatically.
indeed, and it's funny because it actually goes against the core essence of parkour, because it hinders the fluidity of motion and efficiency. It would have been cool to see them tackle this aspect of parkour, rather than just the strict exercises in isolation. Transitions between techniques is actually the most important element of parkour.
@@Real_MisterSir They're just trying it not training to go professional in it. It's hard to break habit when they've been trained since a young age to move the way they move. Technically that would be correct. Parkour is all about moving safely and efficiently. If you've never trained, you would run around and duck things. You then put in the time and effort to learn and open up more and more efficient options and you train them relentlessly to make them consistent and therefore safe.

They did well in terms of confidence in their bodies, bot in truth they failed every test quite miserably.. But that is to be expected when you're new to it, very few people get the basics right the first day of trying.
@@FrancesBaconandEggs Yes they did. They didn't do a single exercise the proper way, and in the end when they actually had to display real parkour (linking the different moves together into a fluent and consistent motion), they all failed. In every situation they showed a lack of body control, they had very little precision in their movement in general, and they constantly came to a full stop and lost all momentum, which is the exact opposite of what parkour requires of you. It's not just about jumping the distance or not falling off the edge. It's about how you do it, and how you link that to the next move you're gonna make. Parkour is not about exercises in isolation, it's about a cohesive display of fluency and efficiency. For clarification, this is not a rant and I'm not trying to discredit them. By all means they did great for what was expected of them. Nobody will do this perfectly in first try, or in their 100th try even. So considering that, they did well. But purely objectively speaking, they all did fail misserably, and it is blatantly obvious to anyone who practices parkour.
Pretty sure that's this is actually an indicator that it was done wrong. That's a lot of kinetic energy wasted instead of being put into keeping the run.
It's a cool sound on the mat, but also the reason I always cringe when watching gymnastics landings. The fact that the sport considers such stiff landings to be "good" sounds like a reason to keep knee surgeons in business.
Darling Lionheart this is a very real and discussed thing in the gymnastics world-that and the insanely tough judging makes it unsafe to do for a long time always trying to be more stiff to get better scores but never getting better scores so it just keeps going in a spiral!

Really enjoyed both videos.
It really was great to see. Everyone had fun while at the same time taking it seriously (trying to do it correctly, even for example when the guys were trying the more flamboyant gymnastics flourishes), so much mutual respect and humility, not only between gymnasts and parkour(... ists?) but within the groups (gymnasts were encouraging each other, parkour guys were encouraging each other in the other vid). And the admiration for each other's disciplines. This vid and it's partner vid were both fun, interesting, and showed the best of human nature and physical ability. Glad it was recommended 😎
Gymnasts in particular have a very strong discipline. You don't get very far in that sport by slacking off and not being very committed. It's one of the most demanding sports, and there's a lot of pressure on each individual athlete. They have to find their own motivation. So I'm not at all surprised.
It's really interesting to see how their trained ability to "stick the landing" comes into play with their jumps instead of that flowing parkour walk off. They did amazing.

It is hard to break habit.
yeah ikr
people forget that even if they have trained for a similar skill doesn't mean that their first time will be flawless

Gymnastics Coach here - the landing is the first thing we teach little ones in gymnastics! so coaching that out of people is borderline impossible after they've been taught it all their lives! for example, I point my toes when I side-step in rugby, even though I haven't actually trained for years!
its muscle memory by this time, almost like telling someone to write using their left hand.
But the gymnasts were women, hardly a fair comparison
These girls are so talented and humble. These guys are so polite and supportive. I loved watching these two videos.
The girl with the braids, when they did that flip, her landing was so powerful! It was dope. All these ladies did amazing!!!!

I feel like all the videos should be dual in that way, once in their environment and half switched.
They’d fail. Miserably.
@@l.olivia865 Yeah idk. Looked like they were hoping to cop a feel or something. obv I have no idea how dangerous a screw up could be though.
@La Austin Totally could be. I don't mean to accuse. It just looked a little odd to me that's all
@La Austin I understood it more like they are all parkour instructors and they are probably used to newbies letting go before time or getting hurt so they just prepare themselves to help them out or catch them. To them the girls were newbies at parkour and treated them as such to prevent any accident.
Remember that these guys are used to instructing kids. It's just second nature to look out for the people doing it for the first time, regardless of their skills in other areas.

The gymnasts are used to element, hold, element, hold. The parkourers are controlled flow.
Very much true. Gymnastics are very choreographed and regimented each element in its place and time, Parkour is free flowing and loose

Anyway I am super glad at least as an adult I got into circus training like bet te r later than never and it really does feel like still playing! Like they say „you don‘t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing“
this also shows how incredibly strong gymnasts are bc some people dont appreciate it
what do you mean? gymnasts are always known for their strength and always appreciated. for me, the parkour people are always underappreciated for their strength.
Inquisitve m I mean both views are true but I think people that do parkour project a stronger image to people because they do it in an uncontrolled and sometime extreme environment which make people think that it requires greater strength
Meanwhile gymnast are mostly known for swinging on a bar, jumping on a beam and dancing. It’s not really a matter of what’s harder (both are hard in different ways) but what projects an image of strength.
Graceful rarely translate to strong to the masses, while extreme sports do
zoë EXACTLY! These bros thought they were just some dainty little ladies, nah they were showin those boys up👏👏
BS, anyone who has done high school PT has a bit of experience with it and what strength it takes, ESPECIALLY if you can make it look graceful.

Daniel Kemnitz they didn’t fail miserably...?!?!

Gymnasts in particular have a very strong discipline. You don't get very far in that sport by slacking off and not being very committed. That was a movie xD
That was like 40 movies in the 90s.
But im sure those movies dont include 30yr old woman joining a teen hiphop class to learn the basics lol
Oml same
I hope that you are enjoying my dance style. The flexibility that you've acquired ever your years in Ballet will help you so much in Hip-Hop.
May I ask: are you learning a range of Hip Hop styles or ones in Particular like Locking, Popping or even Bboying for instance?
I love how UA-cam recommend the most unusual videos. I would have never searched for this but it was interesting.
Girls' smiles are definitely underrated.
How r they underrated lol
@@breannaquesada8705 Honestly, I never thought that comment would gather more than 10 likes, so thanks for your reply, otherwise I wouldn't have seen!
Meaning if that didn't put a smile back on your face, or warmed your heart a little, there's nothing I can say that will make you understand!
@@fl260 that's a real cop-out reply. Especially when hella old men already tell women to "smile more."
@@calliopeshif7581 So at the start when Mike does his crazy move, seeing them react, all smiling and giggling, dosen't make you feel some type of way?
@@calliopeshif7581 Girls respond better when you give them a reason to smile opposed to telling them to.
This comment is still generating a lot of discussion so I'm changing it for you not to know why
Vladislava Denischyk yesss 😍😍😍
Lol it was! I was like, they're gymnasts, why are they so worried. Oh because they're being protective. Cute
I found it patronising, like girl open your eyes they are gymnasts and are showing you they got this
Although the guy with the fro is so sweet and supportive and genuinely impressed, the guy in the grey shirt was butthurt lol
Isabelle Persson these parkour guys (at least some of them) teach parkour, as said when they introduced themselves. If they teach beginners or children, they would be used to protecting and being ready to save the parkour learners, so I'm pretty sure that's why they were looking out for them.
I had no doubt they could do it. There are a lot of crossover skills with gymnastics and parkour. Climbers also do really well with Parkour.
I forgot about climbers! It would be cool to see them do this
These parkour instructors are excellent. As a sports coach myself, it is so important to teach skills progressively and they have got that down. They are also extremely supportive and humble. Great to watch. And the girls killed it
