This was for an award show performance and I think they had to send a video of their performance to the show that’s why they have the name tags I’m guessing for the camera directors but I’m not 100% sure lol
This was rehearsal for award show... name tags i believe are for the camera people to help them know who to focus/feature when working out their shots. RM said in their debut interview that he would wear the name tag until the stage crew were able to recognize his face.
Each member has a camera person assigned to them. They use the name tags for award shows and on tour also as they use camera people from the countries they tour in who are not familiar with the members. Rehersal videos are used prior to live rehersals. BTS members always dance in a specific position/spot. EX: During the "WINGS TOUR: Suga is always in 3rd position/spot stage right in the formation, starts and ends there and camera 3 is always his camera person which makes it easier to follow him.
This is a special version of BTS 'MIC Drop' choreography on (MAMA in Hong Kong 2017). They are wearing the badges to distinguish them from other dancers during the choreography practice. So the break down you havnt seen is because they add things for award shows special dance breaks etc. This looks like their performance from MAMA 2017 oops just noticed it said Mama dance break in the title lol.
Did you see their MV trailers for To Cool For Skool and ORUL8! I think, but I am not completely sure if these are the right albums. Sorry🤔😅 I am still learning all their songs since I am still a baby ARMY.
If you are impressed by this award show choreo, I would highly recommend watching their dance practice for 2019 MAMA performance of "Dionysus" (ua-cam.com/video/bccr1BwNI0Y/v-deo.html ). I'm pretty sure that the name tags are there for award show directors so that they can practice cutting to close ups during the award show rehearsals. Either way, thanks for the reaction! Typically and I think it's RM this time but if someone is missing because of a previous engagement or because they are hurt one of their main dancers will take over their part and then everyone will name tag so that everyone knows who all the main singers are and who the dancers are.

Ohhh!!! Wait till he sees "NOT TODAY" dance practice. Everyone needs to be on beat with that practice to execute it perfectly.

Awards shows rehearsals there are large groups and it can be hard for the staff to know every single performer.
