  • Extrusion is the deformation of either metal or plastic forced under pressure through a die to create a shape. Part of the Fundamental Manufacturing Processes Video Series, this unique program is an introduction to both plastic extrusion and metal extrusion processes.
The metal extrusion segment looks at hot extrusion, press components, lubrication, force capacity, and the metals that are typically hot extruded. Both warm and cold extrusion processes are featured, including indirect extrusion, combination extrusion, and impact extrusion.
The plastic extrusion segment explores components of the screw extrusion machine and common feedstock and materials. The two most prevalent plastic extrusion processes, profile extrusion and blown film extrusion, are also extensively detailed.

How much is the metal extrusion force?

and still no one tells me how they get the holes in the middle of an extrusion, a tube for example ...

Think of a 'C-shape' die, and then the top (the gap int he C) is welded as it exits the extrusion die. One simple way but may not be desired.

Mark Mark not every die is the same. at my job, we use what's called a pin tip. hot piece of metal that protrudes outward. as the material flows around the edges of the pin tip, you use compressed air, water, and a plug to keep it inflated with a hole in the middle. make sense?

Mark Mark i can explain more if needed. we extrude plastic.

there is a process that includes no welding. there is a die set up the displace the center of the material. as if it melds around the die

Why would someone need a "heavy duty" extrusion ?
