      You're really funny. Good energy too! I'm learning Japanese right now and would like to study together but I found it's easier to learn through Korean instead of English. Much easier... If I get fluent enough to have a conversation, I'll go find you!! And thank you for helping Ben with these videos! I really appreciate what he does especially having done something remotely similar over here in Seoul. Hope to see you soon on italki!

    Hi Benjamin! I've been using your videos for listening practice for about 2 years now. I started studying Japanese about 2 and a half years ago. So they've been a huge part and a constant of my development in the language. I just want to say thank you for putting in the effort to make these. I've seen you say in the past that these videos got too time consuming to continue making. It's unfortunate but I completely understand. I listen to your Japanese conversations every morning on my way driving to work. Eventually I realized my reading and listening skills were far outpacing my speaking. So, as intimidating as it was, I decided to finally do online tutoring. I decided to find someone you had spoken to before, because I would already have an idea of how they converse. I ended up looking at Rina's page and booked a lesson. Well about 6 months have passed and I've met with Rina once a week since then to practice conversation. She's such a great teacher and so fun to talk to! I'm happy to have found such a fun teacher through you. When I mentioned that's how I found her, she got a little embarrassed but was ultimately very happy about it. I've looked into your iTalki profile and saw you're not currently taking lessons. I hope you return to do that someday, but obviously your life comes as a priority. Thank you again for these videos! Maybe someday we'll see more Japanese conversations being posted, until then, take care!
    P.S. I always thought it was interesting how I've gotten to learn little bits about you through your videos. You're vegan, Aussie, played Sonic as a kid, into jazz, eat 15 bananas a day, and other stuff. When I realized I knew all these things, it shocked me because I have never heard you speak English. That was a great experience realizing I figured all that stuff out through Japanese knowledge alone. This also made me realize I've always imagined your voice without an Aussie accent, and it's funny to think about how wrong I am. Imagining you saying things like "gettin' pissed" "doin a shoe-y" and even the classic "bogan" always makes me laugh because hearing my Aussie friends say that stuff is always fun.

    5:26 Hey! To everyone learning Japanese, ちがくて is actually an error that native people will sometimes make. The real form is ちがって!
    Chigau is a verb, and there is no "chigai" adjective.
    Hope it helped. :D

    Does anyone else find this one harder than many others? I think it's because she speaks very fast at times, and often mumbles the ending (something we all have a tendency to do in our native language if we're not super careful). I found the youtube auto captions were more inaccurate in this one too.
    Even in my native language I find it quite exhausting and overloading talking to people who speak like this. I think it's my autism.

    • @jonathanwamble9340

    These videos are great, thanks a lot! Just curious, how much simplified is this conversation? With the help of the provided vocab, I can pretty much understand everything that is said, how much difference is there to a "real life native conversation"? Thanks.

    • @BenjiroJapanese
      @BenjiroJapanese  4 роки тому +3

      Generally speaking I’d say a native conversation would:
      - Have a much broader scope of potential vocab (in the 10,000s of potential words as compared to maybe only 2000 or so in these videos.)
      - Include more lower English-correlation vocab (i.e. Japanese-specific phrases that don’t really exist in English.)
      - Include faster, more slurred speech.
      - Leave a lot more “unsaid” or left to context.

    • @Wraith4Gate
      @Wraith4Gate 4 роки тому +1

      @@BenjiroJapanese Thank you for the elaborate answer. Your videos really do offer a great "entrance ticket" to watching stuff like Terrace House in japanese. After going through them several times, my comprehension with native content greatly improved. It is really hard to find comprehensible input for my level that is also not boring. It feels really rewarding. So, thank you.

      italki.com, and Meetup.com for Japanese group meeting (especially if you live in a large city, but if you live in a smaller city, there might not be meetups available, and certainly not now during the pandemic, but maybe they'll get back to it afterwards).
