  • Hi, welcome to ✨AstroFromTheBlue✨!!!
    In this ✨video✨, you'll see what a typical day is like for my service dog! He went to his first class at Temple University and absolutely killed it. He maintained his 1.5 hour down stay then to decompress we went to the field to sniff and play with his frisbee!
    Reminder: our post schedule has changed to WEDNESDAYS !

    Stacy you're doing such an amazing job with Astro! Seeing how well he did on the elevator was awesome, and makes me look forward to starting my own elevator training! Also I've been wanting to go to my local Hmart for a long time, I think you've inspired to finally go because that food looked amazing! 😍

    I love how goofy Astro is, absolutely adorable.
    I've had my pup Niko for five days and its been a blast. He did not like his crate the first couple days but is slowly getting accustomed to it. He's for the most part got the hang of sit/down and I'm just starting to add stay into the mix. Its so satisfying to see the progress each day.

So just basicly how did you get astro to focus on you? it can be as simple as putting a treat by your face then rewarding, im just really lost 😅

    Astro’s ear obsession was hilarious!
    I have a Q, if or when Astro gets startled or reactive towards skateboards or whatever he might be scared of, how do you calm him down?
    Brie and I were training in a library, when all of the sudden something spooked her and she started breathing puffs and barking. I wasn’t sure what to do :( i took her outside and asked her to down stay (hoping this would calm her) but when we went back inside, she started barking at the unknown again :(
    Wondering what you do to help Astro understand that he’s safe!

    Seems like you’re both adjusting to campus really well. It’s awesome that he’s developing such a good recall in the field and a very good pause and heal during the curves and crossings. It’s also great that he doesn’t seem bothered by the loud sound of vehicles and campus. Any tips on how you told him that when you told him to take a break he was allowed to go in front of you on the leash but not pull is some thing I’m working with my SD

    • @miratraven5755
      @miratraven5755 Рік тому +1

      I suggest having a really solid heel. And also a solid break or release cue to signal to your dog the difference. My non service dog heels when told, whenever we are out in public or it is needed on a normal walk, but she also has a solid break cue so that when I don’t want to her to heel anymore so can go ahead of me. So stop pulling I would suggest any of the many methods people have on the internet. I personally used a prong collar and food to help shape a not pulling non heel walk. She would get a verbal warning (ah-ah or no) when she did pull, then if she didn’t respond to that she would get a quick leash pop. This would result in her doubling back to me or slowing her pace. She then would get her marker word (yes) and a treat. Now she has learned the verbal warning and responds only to that. Hope this helps.

    • @michellekam931
      @michellekam931 Рік тому +1

      Amazing advices!
      For me, stopping when she pulls helped a lot. If she pulled, I would give her a verbal cue (ah ah), stop walking, and wait until she made the leash loose. First couple times takes forever bc she wondering why we wont continue walking. But these dogs are such smart kids! They get it almost instantly. Hope this helps you!
      As for non heel loose leash walking vs. strict heel - this training wasn’t intentional, but my SDIT knows that if I hold her leash tight/close to me, we’re working and she is to do a strict heel. If I let go of the tight hold in the leash, she can do whatever she likes except pull on the leash. I think she understands it as two different set of rules. Similar to SD vest training. Like when she has the vest on/leash is held tight, we’re working & stricter set of rules. When she doesn’t have the vest/leash is loose, we’re hanging out. I really hope this helps. Happy training! :)

      @@miratraven5755 she does hav a Brake word, so I think I’ll just make a point of ussing it with her on leash and maybe kind of holding it a bit further forward so she knows that means you can step in front of me. Thanks for the advice
