I'm doing a run following yours and I've also arrived to the barathrumites! I took Joppa's warden as a companion but even then the goo dungeon was like hell, let's see where this goes!
With the right gear it’s actually quite manageable with single digit levels - the issue I have is generally that I accidentally over-level while getting the aforementioned gear, and then at that point there’s no big reason to do it before level 16 or so
You know, if it was me, I would have mentioned the uncontrollable cryofreezer from a timeless age first, and the potentially hostile but thinking people I could talk to second. Then again I suppose the Barathumites are all perenially dressed for the cold.

Btw you can just eat in the Grit Gate. Villages and settlements and such share food freely for some sort of cultural reasons I think
who hasn't got a sore throat in the dungeon before?
Is it perhaps possible to go underground on a nearby tile and then dig your way in?
