Hi Shelby, just wanted to say I appreciate how your content focuses on experiences rather than just purchasing or accumulating things. It's such a breath of fresh air not to always be encouraged to buy new clothes or beauty products. Those things also have their time and place and can be fun to watch, but I know with your content I'm usually going to learn something or have something new to think about to implement today or in the future. Keep it up! Oh and by the way even though I also watch Monica and have watched you both for a little while now, I just realized the other day you were twins, which should have been obvious lol.

I can't even count to 10k! Hahaha. My mom is 62. She has been walking at least 10 miles a week for about 20 years. She is pretty spunky for her age. Lately with these last two years. I have been out of shape and tired af. This is a good video to make as a reminder to take care of your body. :)

I’ve been walking 10,000 steps most days for about a month. I allow myself a minimum of 5, so I probably do two days a week of 5000, and 5 days a week of 10,000 or more (16,000 today), and I am SO productive and so much fitter. I didn’t notice any change after the first week though, so sticking to it is better!

@@LindseyDara it kind of just happened gradually as I realised walking hurt less and I loved it. pretty sedentary to 10,000 would be a lot, but I went from sedentary to 10,000 a day by just walking a bit most days, resting if I was tired after a long walk, and then just increasing as I enjoyed it. Walked over 20,000 steps yesterday, many of them up hills, and I'm fine today!

I used to walk everywhere that took me less than 10 minutes but now I walk everywhere that takes me less than half an hour to walk (sometimes an hour) unless I am late... which happens more than it should! Just little bits of extra walking here and there and changing little things at a time will make a massive difference :)

Absolutely! This is not something you should do for just a week. I assume that since she lives in NYC she is walking a lot more than when she was driving everywhere. But I don't think the time I spend walking is wasted. I've been doing it for longer than a week, less than 2 years. I used to walk a minimum of 30 minutes, but I switched to 10,000+ steps. Obviously it takes longer, but I think it is worth it.

I try to break it down into 3 walks. One in the morning, one in the midday and one late afternoon. It makes the walks more doable on a daily basis, plus it keeps your blood circulating throughout the day, which I find keep my energy levels higher. Add in a couple coffee runs and I usually get pretty close my 10,000 steps.

When I work from home and don't get in a walk in the morning, I find myself to be more tired and not so productive right from opening my computer. I go to the office a few days a week and need to walk a bit to get there and it really just sets a better mood for the day, and I feel more energetic so I definitely think there's something to getting a few short walks in every now and then during the day! I really need to make morning walks a habit even when I'm working from home. Great video! ☺️

I have been walking 10,000 steps or more a day for the last 7 years. I find if you stroll it will take a long time but if you walk for exercise and get cardio in 10,000 steps might take me 1 hour which I get done in the morning. I need to do this for my mood so if I have to wake up 15 to 20 minutes earlier I will. It’s just all around better for sleep energy mood etc. But if you are just trying to fit walking in here and there in your day it could take a long time. Thanks for your video Shelby. The 10k steps a day comes from an 80's watch company based in Japan. The reason why 10k was chosen because it looked good on a digital watch so it's all marketing. No need to do 10k steps. 4k to 6k is plenty. Many studies on this.

I really like this video it might be one of my favorites that you've ever done. I had hip surgery back in October because I could hardly walk anymore. I'm 61 years old and I am quite a bit overweight. So I'm in recovery from hip surgery and I recently watched someone's dog and it got me out of just sitting on my rear end and I would take the dog out every day for 5 days like 3 times A-day the morning was the longest walk it was you know 2 hours I don't know how many steps or how far I'm guessing over a mile total but I didn't notice I had more motivation to do stuff and I am sleeping better at night. So there really is something to what you said. Thank you for this video.

Yes! I do 10,000 steps a day, well maybe not on weekends.😉 I got a Fitbit for Christmas and it has changed my life. I have always walked alot but needed an organized way of doing it. I like how Fiitbit reminds you every hour that you need to move your butt!😄 I did it more for my mental health (my beloved dogs Ziggy and Cricket) died last year so Daisy (my pom) and I walked and walked until grief somewhat subsided but have continued with it. I like the Fitbit because it tracks it all and it records every step you take rather than having to carry a cell phone which only records when you carry it. Yay for being in the 10,000 steps club. *Hugs* Great vlog by the way!

Walk anywhere that you can, park as far away as possible, spend time outside. Since starting WFH in 2020 I started getting around 15k a day vs the maybe 6000 I would get stuck in the office and I feel so much better

I always feel better when I get at least 7k steps in per day! It's hard when you're not in as walkable of an area, but another tip I love is to go to the gym even on rest days just to do a 30-60 minute treadmill walk.

I miss living in NYC so much for this reason. I checked my health app recently and saw in 2019 I was getting 16 thousand step days and it felt so normal and easy to walk so much! Then COVID happened and now living in FL in a car area I really have to go out of my way to get in steps. It feels like work to get 10 thousand when that was just normal for life in NYC!

Thats what it is!! Omg Shelby I was telling my friend how great i feel and how I have been sleeping well. I didn't correlate it with the walking! I started walking a few miles every other day acouple weeks ago...

I was blessed with a job near the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights, NY and started every workday (no matter the weather!) with a wonderful walk there. Great views and the regulars would look out for each other. Crappy job, great neighborhood made it tolerable!

I really miss going to Santa Monica State Beach and walking the beach walk in the mornings. I don't live in West LA anymore, but the walking was a part of my day and it was amazing.

running/jogging will easily cut the time by half or more. I prefer running for 20min as my first thing in the mornings. I usually get 3~3.5 miles in, and then on top of that, my normal walking around the house throughout the day (2.5-3k steps?) gets me over the 10k pretty easily.

Despite that you don’t see many people running/jogging outside, majority are walking. Walking is a lot less stressful on the body although it does take more time

I'm a real estate agent in London and walk to and from work everyday, as well as walking around for viewings, so i totally get the hype of walking! I average like 18k a day and sleep VERY well! I loved this video. Like Adjoa AA, I really really appreciate you giving us content that isn't just buying things.

My car broke down so I've been walking much more. I used to walk and was in decent shape. But, being car-less, it totally addressed problems (weight) I had ignored.
Finding new things was always a plus. Walking through old neighborhoods and seeing the architecture of the houses is one thing I enjoyed the most when I was in Chicago.

Thank you Shelby. I hope this'll help me too. Btw I've heard many martial artists support walking. But how do you record the steps like how much steps do we take and whatnot. Because if we count em I don't think we'll be relaxed even tho we exhaust ourselves with walks!

Casey Neistat got me into running and only then did I realize in general how simple the idea of walking/running/cardio is! You get so much in return for a simple 20-60mins of your day depending on your level! I’m able to run 5 miles daily, and at this point it’s like walking to me and I always am very healthy! I’m jealous of people on Strava doing 15miles in a day! My feet start burning after 10miles!

I am not in a walkable area outside of Seattle but when the weather is nice and I have the time I like to walk to coffee shops and edit from them or study. It ends up being 8k steps total to the nearest one and over 10k to the others. I try to go twice a week. I also hate paying for parking so I always walk very far when I go to Seattle. I love walking I find many gorgeous things. I saw an owl one time and a fisher and I have counted 90 fuzzy caterpillars before.

I lived in the same neighborhood where your Airbnb is for 4.5 years (Lincoln & Idaho) and I didn't even have a car! Under 2 miles, I walked... 2+ miles, I biked! I still live on the west side, but I miss the location of that neighborhood so much and how walkable it is.

I think with this pace is quite important. I try to go as fast as comfortable so I'm done in 1.5hrs or less most days. I live in a hilly city and it doesn't always seem to take into consideration I'm puffing my way uphill! I also heard the phone isn't as good as a watch for step-counting, as it tends to miss more steps, but I don't know if this is true.
