Sabbath are from Birmingham England, my home town. It was very industrial back in the day, and they got their look and sound by combining the heavy factory press and machinery noises from industry along with their love of Saturday morning horror films at the cinema. The guitarist Tony Iommi actually lost two finger ends on one hand in a heavy metal press as he worked his last shift, he made plastic finger ends to play the guitar.
These guys pretty much invented Heavy Metal. Their first two albums "Black Sabbath" and "Paranoid" are Metal before Metal was a thing. I suggest "WAR PIGS" live from "THE END", their last ever concert. The energy is insane!
"War Pigs" is a great choice. But I think you should listen to the version from "live i Paris 1970", as a starter. It shows the power they had already in the beginnings of their career.
@@megamaniac7402 agree on the power, but what always throws me off on that performance is that the lyrics are wrong. I know Ozzy did that most of the time, but I like the lyrics to be correct. ;-)
@@ingobordewick6480 I agree on the lyrics part. But if you haven't heard the studio version before that version, I guess that you shouldn't have as much an issue with that as we have.
I just found this reaction. If you want to hear more good Black Sabbath, check out "Fairies Wear Boots". It's about what happens when smoking and tripping is all that you do.
Yes, Ozzy was one of the members of Black Sabbath, but it was not Ozzy's band as such. It was a group and they all contributed; bass player Geezer Butler wrote most of the lyrics , Bill Ward is a legendary drummer and the Killer guitar riffs were created by Tony Iommi - the person with the best claim to have invented Heavy Metal.
"He sounded like Ozzy Osbourne.... What's that Ozzy Osbourne?!?!?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! yes, He's Ozzy! HAHAHAHAHAHA That was funny! Yeah, he's Ozzy Osbourne. No matter what other people say, Black Sabbath gave life to Heavy Metal, due to an accident, but man, it's that dark power metal that takes your soul into the abyss of hell! I grew old with all those British metal sounds. The best metal of the past century!
It was 1970. So many things make this the 'best'. It was first, there was headbanging, they weren't in suits. They were 'dangerous'. They were full of angst. They talked about corruption. It was like the Mayflower of all the pilgrim ships.
Nice reaction bro. Hard to quantify what is the best metal song (personally) but Paranoid is definitely in the top 20! Sick riff and Ozzy with his chanting, sing-song style of singing make this song catchy as hell.
Check out Grand Funk Railroad "Paranoid" also. Same title but a different song. The guitar work on that is hard fuzz. ✌ I had a huge crush on Ozzy back then
Black Sabbath was founded by the god father of Heavy metal riffs guitarist Tony Iommi in the year 1968, the same year Led Zeppelin was formed. Surprisingly both the bands were from Birmingham England.. Black sabbath is believed to have introduced heavy metal music genre to the music world.
spotify and polls go by averages that change and evolve as new generations and birth cohorts discover their musical rich heritage and the renaissance that occurred about a half a century ago. remember my young friend that there are groups of people (smaller groups it seems..) that prefer what is for them is above average music based not on being snooty, but on higher levels of experience and interest -even at the time this classic album came out! that more discerning group at the time loved this song BUT that smaller group preferred the last song on the album BY FAR and this has, i believe, stood the test of time-that song is FAIRIES WEAR BOOTS ---do NOT NOT NOT do some live thing that came later from some random show!! that is NOT the way to live the AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE THE BAND WANTED YOU TO HEAR AND THE AUTHENTIC REAL PIECE THE PUBLIC FELL MIN LOVE WITH!!! this is advice you should keep with you it is true! that way when you get to something live that might be better you will know what it is based on and be able to appreciate the changes and improvisations if any. this is especially true of led zep -first time i saw them live i would not have understood if i didnt know every nano second of the originals first!!! there is some live zep that is beyond words it is so hot!! but do the originals first!!!! make sure you do the FULL live whole lotta love fro msg in 73 -you will shit yourself!!! sorry i went on too long you are awesome ...
"He sounds like Ozzy Osborne"!? 😂 That was funny.

Dude, loved the moment of realization. You hit the nail on the head and then answered your own question.

"metal before metal was a thing." Dang...that was powerful. Can't wait to listen to WAR PIGS!

Can't argue with the impact of this song. Hitting #4 in the UK and 61 on Billboard in 71 is the main introduction to the masses.
Black Sabbath NIB is another good one
Can’t wire to check it out
@@SalvoG I don't know what wire is. Lol.
But anything off the first ever black Sabbath album is amazing
@@shane5200 wait* oops lol
The original metal song🤘🎶🎶 🤘

It's funny to me that people say so many of the great bands came from the USA. I think most are from the UK and many other countries.
That was funny when you figured out that it was Ozzy.❤His voice is so good. You should try "Iron Man".
Check out The Beatles - Helter Skelter , lot of people say this was the first heavy metal song
Sweet Leaf next please. One of the best Sabbath riffs.
It was 1970. So many things make this the 'best'. It was first, there was headbanging, they weren't in suits. They were 'dangerous'. They were full of angst. They talked about corruption. It was like the Mayflower of all the pilgrim ships.
Geezers bass hits hard in this song along with Iommi's tone they could really crank out the power.
Gotta do war pigs next!!
Will do!
As soon as the head Bob starts you at in! 😂❤ 🇬🇧 🇺🇸

In my opinion they started metal.
Whos a close second?

I just did...wow.
The fact that you knew Ozzy's voice saved you man 🤨 😆 but yeah Ozzy goes way back
Black Sabbath had many singers nut had the most success with Ozzy. Pretty good success with Dio. Not so much with others but they were there.
