    I've only been doing this exercise for three days, but I already see some improvement. A note that was elusive for me previously, popped out yesterday on my first attempt. I'm going to keep doing this exercise.

    Hey Ralph, I'm loving these, especially the video clips. We don't quite have the same history or lineage of trumpet teachers in the UK so these glimpses of trumpet history are fantastic. The lessons are great.

      Yes. It looks different now because they installed a modern front on the bottom of the building. But if you look up it is exactly the same. I can see the window from where he taught.

    counting myslf as an experienced player, and thinking changing routine/warm up is no bad thing (have done the thompson book until now, but with covid and no real playing i wonder if i should try something else to keep my chops in condtion), i have tried caruso before and never really "took" to it , so first, thanks for the no nonsense explanation and secondly i will persevere and see where it gets me.... so my lead chops are down to you! you are my kind of trumpet player!

    • @ralphdavella554
      @ralphdavella554  3 роки тому +1

      At the level it sounds that you are at, you can do other routines that you like and still do some Caruso. If you only do some of the Caruso I would recommend you do the six note as often as possible. Choose between playing the interval study of the seconds or the thirds or even the fourths. Alternate between them at least twice a week.
      That should keep you in good playing condition.

    Hi Ralph,I played the 6 notes and seconds( 2 set) for 15 days with good improvements.Please,can you tell me the next Caruso's exercises? For instance:6 notes,seconds and Hamonics,is it right?Thank you so much,Ralph.

    • @ralphdavella554

      Before you play the interval of the 2nd. I would like to see you warm up a little more after you play the six notes. Refer back to my lesson Ralph Davella Trumpet double high C Caruso warm up exercise. Then just follow along. Another lesson that will help you with your warm up is Ralph Davella Carmine Caruso Legendary Trumpet Lesson 4 Clarke Book. You can alternate the warm ups or do them both in the same day. For purposes of warming up you can do the first exercise in the book for now as shown in the video.

    Hi Ralph,about this lesson 2-does every first note have to be played with tongue or breath attack?Thank you.

  • @57dogsbody

    Hey Ralph, love your videos, but I have a question concerning this very lesson (Intervals The Seconds).
    I do this every day after my warm up, and try as I might, I simply can't get above D (over high C). I follow the rules to the letter and use the 1st valve as you did. Can you offer any tips/advice to help me get over this "block"?

    • @ralphdavella554
      @ralphdavella554  3 роки тому

      Here are a couple things I would like you to concentrate on. After you take a nice breath in through your nose. Tighten your stomach as if you are getting ready to take a punch to the stomach.
      When you are playing make sure your stomach is going inward and upward. The next thing is concentrate on the air coming out faster in the higher range. One way to get this effect is by thinking about blowing the air farther and farther through the trumpet and across the room. This does not mean louder although that is a hard concept to grasp. Last think of the syllable E on the high notes so the back of the tongue level does not drop. Also practice the thirds and fourths on different days then go back to the seconds.

    Is it normal that the sound get thinner as you go higher? I get to high F and after that it's really thin.

    • @ralphdavella554
      @ralphdavella554  2 роки тому +1

      Yes it is a normal thing that happens. Of coarse we practice so we can get a little better with that problem. Their are things to practice to help that. It's very difficult in a text to address the situation. So I will give you one tip for you to address this issue.
      As you accend the lips should should always pucker towards the center. Not pull back and stretched out.

    Hi Ralph, how much rest after the six notes and then 20 minutes rest before the Harmonics?

    • @ralphdavella554
      @ralphdavella554  5 років тому

      Thanks for asking Curtis. Rest about five minutes after the six notes. It can be a little less if you are feeling that the exercise is becoming easier to you.
      Also you will need 10 to 15 minutes recovery time after the harmonics before you play another strenuous piece. Don't forget that you can rest for only five minutes after the interval study or after the Harmonics if you would like to practice songs that are not to taxing or even practice the Clarke Book.
      Enjoy your practice time. Ralph Davella
