    Nice vid. I love the sound reels make when the fish takes line....could listen to that noise all day providing I'm holding onto the rod and reel!

      Thanks really appreciate that bud, its amazing how I cant stand the kids, boss & mrs screaming but when your reel screams... oh boy it gets the adrenaline pumping and sounds like pure bliss.

      Victor Franqui, yeah pretty much but I found slower works better in the "Inner Hauraki Gulf" in 28-15 meter depths.

    nice fishing bro, i carry mainly 80gm slow jigs, ocean angler sliders an jitterbugs, have you had much luck fishing them at different depths. im assuming anything 20+ meters is more suitable? I only ask cause I havent had much luck slow jigging. probably cause I anchor up aswel

    What kind of clip are you using to clip to the jig? Thanks!

    How tight do you normally set your drag on your 10lb line? Cheers

    • @reelbusycatching1161
      @reelbusycatching1161  8 років тому

      lamadrid 2.5-3kg max. But I start the day light around 1kg to avoid harm to undersized fish then add drag as the fish get bigger.

    • @fisherboy444
      @fisherboy444 8 років тому

      +Reel Busy Catching thanks for your reply, i use 2kg of drag with my 10lb braid, i read from diff sites that the drag should only be around 25-30% of the line weight, do you get any busted lines from 2.5-3Kg, i just feel that 25-30% drag for a 10lb line is too light for average to big snappers?

    • @fisherboy444
      @fisherboy444 8 років тому

      +lamadrid where is the placement of your go pro, i like how you can see the reel, hear the reel, and see the fish while retrieving. Cheers

      lamadrid I use to go with the 3rd of Everything theorie, but have now upgraded to a 12kg rod, 11kg Drag Reel and use 10lb Braid with 20lb Fluro Carbon Leader. Dont try stop your fish! Just work them up slow and tire them for a higher sucess rate and easy handling when landing.

      lamadrid, A flexible rod will take the grunt of nods on the larger snapper and will put your mind at ease if you worried about 10lb line breaking. Also keep still and firm while they run helps aswell. A spike during drag while they run has been my downfall in the past so I sit still and hold rod firm. the gopro is chest mounted but youll notice the rod butt is against my forearm and not under armpit.

    Why did u dig knife in the fish head? Nice vid

    • @reelbusycatching1161

      Muhammad Wasim, good point. I've been reading that it's a more humane way to put a fish down rather than let drown in the chilly bin also fish meat will be alot more firm to handle when you fillet and I think it tastes better in some case's.

      Great vid. I worked on a long liner in the hauraki gulf in the early 80s. We iki spiked the snapper so it didn’t flap about and damage other snapper when placed in the ice slurry. Had to keep the iki snapper in pristine condition for export to Japan.

    did you just drag the jig on the bottom?

    • @reelbusycatching1161
      @reelbusycatching1161  7 років тому

      indra fardian No, the moment it hits the bottom after drop I instsntly start winding up.

    • @indrafardian435
      @indrafardian435 7 років тому

      Reel Busy Catching so u just winding without any pitch action?? i never try that before

    • @reelbusycatching1161
      @reelbusycatching1161  7 років тому

      indra fardian yes that's right, anything under 25 meters deep I found you don't really need any action on the jig.

    • @indrafardian435

      cool... im gonna try that on my next fishing trip

  • @dannz1557

    Would this work in 3-10 meters

    • @reelbusycatching1161
      @reelbusycatching1161  7 років тому

      Dan Nz, ive tried as low as 5-10 meters but only managed undersized and only caught 1 keeper going 58cm on a Ocean Angler - Orange Slider. Maybe a 25g Micro Jig would be better but still be hauling alot of undersized fish.

    • @dannz1557
      @dannz1557 7 років тому +1

      Reel Busy Catching yea was Just wondering if it would at least work cause we fish in harbours. And I have 40-60gram slow jigs. Will have to see anyways. Cheers

    I notice you stop reeling in the line when the fish pulls the drag. is that a feature of spinning reels or you just simply stop reeling in? if it is a feature, what's it called?

    • @reelbusycatching1161
      @reelbusycatching1161  8 років тому +1

      winding while drag is being pulled doesnt really bring the fish closer, So I let it pull the drag to tire it and then wind it when it stops. I was using 10lb line and the letting both drag and the rod take most of the head nods, ive survived more battles this way rather than lock drag and haul like crazy. Reel only has 6kg drag so not much room for error really.

    • @krx9503
      @krx9503 8 років тому

      I see. for a while there I thought the reel knob automatically stops when the fish is eating line xD thanks for your response! I will keep that in mind

      Also with these reels, if you wind while line is being pulled out, you get serious line twist.
