  • Back in the late 90s Europress (now known as ClickTeam) followed up the hugely popular Klik and Play with "The Games Factory".
    A software package that allowed users to create games with out the need to know how to program, create artwork or even make audio.
    With large libraries and a great number of tutorials it made it fun and easier to make games.
    You can still get it from here: www.clickteam.com/download-ce...
    The Game made in this episode "BreakDown" can be gotten here: www.dropbox.com/s/4bm566kkp34...

    I got this as a birthday present from my mom in the 90s. Me and my best friends spent so much time making games in this (point and click adventures, platformers and breakout games). We even sold some of our games on floppies at our school. And I made some school presentations in this software, making artwork and stories and the teachers ended up saving the presentation and using it in class. Fun times. It was such a good tool. Me and my friend had really big dreams lol, one time we went around with a handheld camera and took photos of the world, opening doors etc, photographing keys on the ground, stuff like that. Our idea was to somehow scan the photos and make a point and click game with realistic graphics. That one never happened because we never scanned the photos. Lol. Thanks for making this great presentation of The Games Factory!

    Can't describe you my excitement when I discovered this software in 2000. Great memories! Absolutely love Klik and Play and The Games Factory. I own a copy of the latest Fusion 2.5 but haven't really done much with it as yet -- I really should get back to playing with it sometime, as I used to have so much fun with this as a kid!
    Only ever finished one game, but it was a banger. "Pie Eater's Destiny", it was called, and it featured our head of sixth form as the final boss. He absolutely loved it.

    Not only did I use it back in the day, but I still use the newest version, Clickteam Fusion 2.5, today. It's still a pretty good engine if you want to do a 2D game and the fundamentals set up way back in 1996 are still present in the modern version you can get on Steam these days.

      Addendum : I made most if not ALL of my games with the demo version of TGF, and the limitations were really a pain. The games I made back in the day were not that great either to be honest, but having fun in creating them was far more important. Its great to hear that some people are still using it to make games as it really was a great program that really made it enjoyable to use.
      All those assets came on the CD edition, I guess the downloadable version on the site didn't come with them all.

    • @YakibombROMhacking
      @YakibombROMhacking 4 роки тому

      @@GouldFishOnGames Definitely having fun making them was more important. You summed it up very well, "It's the only factory I'd like to work in!"
      It's still a useful tool in my eyes, even as an art design program. I'm more into using sprites for my games, so I've found that easily rearranging sprites to make concepts has been way faster and more efficient than learning a modern tool like GIMP (in my opinion). It has a grid system to lock sprites in place, semi-transparency option for sprites, animating, and other easy-assembling tools that are all very helpful and quick when conceptualizing something. Sure there are limitations, but there are so many other advantages.
      One disadvantage is there is no palette system. I'd really love a palette-swapping tool, or another easy way to view palettes on an image. I think that might come with more modern Clickteam products... But you have to pay for those.

      @@YakibombROMhacking Yep, all those reasons and more are why its a great tool to keep using, it really is easy to get going with.

      The Games Factory 1.06 and Multimedia Fusion Express do work in Windows 7, 8 and 10 (maybe even 11, but haven't tried yet). You may need to find a serial key if you don't have one. TG1 itself works fine. The Help files uses a deprecated format Windows no longer supports (but you can find online tools to convert them to usable formats). The Examples menu and the example games rely on 16-bit executables (for backwards compatibility with the 16-bit edition), but that can easily be fixed by opening their GAM files and saving them as standalone (32-bit) executables again.

      Sorta, or to think of it another way this that Multimedia Fusion was born out of the Games Factory when they extended it so it could do so much more.
