    Glad to see that I”m not the only guy that targets the dirty water in the spring (or all winter for that matter). Those pigs school up on the shad and hang there for months.. a little advice on the church boards: set them up so that the line releases from the front clip on a hard strike (or when you pick up the rod and give the tip a snap), the board will become neutral and less of a factor when fighting a big fish, plus easier to remove before netting. Good luck, keep working on your videos. Capt. Jay

    Put a loop in the front clip and you won’t have to clear lines as they will just automatically go behind the boat

    Pumping the rod while reeling in a walleye makes them come unbuttoned.

    Trolling
    For walleye on Lake Erie ... 1-1.5 mph. No slot siZe for a reason ... if every angler kept big walleyes the population wouldn’t even know. Anglers and commercial fisheries on Lake Erie take less than 1% yearly.

    just release the boards and you woulkdn't need to always bring in all those lines!

    So I’m a newbie to Erie. I have done the planerboard and trolling thing in Minnesota and I don’t care for that type of fishing. My question. Is can a guy fish erie on structure with a jigging rap or a jig and a minnow and have good success like this or is it just about covering water?

    Great video. Was that this year or 2017. Went April 15 through the 22nd. Wind blew over 25 mph for 5 days. Water still dirty when we left. Only got small males. You must of been early April. Good luck you went the right time.

      Steve, this was 2018. This episode was filmed and aired within the same week. Yes, it all seems to be timing with water clarity, temps etc.

      We went that same week and water clarity was terrible and didn’t catch much at all, we couldn’t get on to the island we stay on for two days cause the ferry’s were shut down

    What rods was you using? I'm looking for good suggestions on rods to use for plane boards and particularly ones that can handle the pressure from deep diving cranks plus the board and fish without problems. Any help would be appreciated

      the 8'6 St Croix eyecons are our top choice!! We have caught everything from 20 inch walleye to 30 pound trout on them and they are great!

    What do you recommend for line type/size for board trolling walleyes? I have 3 line counter reels I'm setting up and appreciate any advise from anyone. Thanks guys.

    Whats the recomend size boat for erie have 17ft lund is that big enough

    • @SuperiorAngling
      @SuperiorAngling  6 років тому

      Thanks for the Question! Yes, a 17 foot boat is plenty big if you use caution and watch the weather forecasts. There were plenty of 17-20 foot boats on the lake during this video shoot. As always, wear a PFD and keep a radio handy. Fishing structure close to shore is a great idea until you develop a familiarity with the lake.

    Great episode but No river mouth close to there where she would have dropped her eggs? Detroit river 2 miles away raisin river 1 mile away and swan creek 600 yards away from Stoney point.

    I’m so thankful to have this amazing fishery in my backyard! Btw, I really appreciate you guys throwing the big ones back! I’m one of the very few anglers that throws back any bigger fish regardless of the time of year! Can’t catch 12lb+ fish if you keep every 8-10lb fish you catch!

    Ohio only allows two rods per person. I count 8 being run (between the 9:04 - 9:06 marks). It looks like you guys only had three people in the boat which puts you two rods over limit. MAYBE you could say that there were four people in the boat. If so, you should've made a point of filming that too. I only see the two anglers and ONE shadow from the cameraman. MAYBE you could say that a couple rods weren't actually out but it certainly doesn't appear that way...not a good look anyway to have them in rod holders if that was the case. I'm not trying to be a jerk but I live on this lake so I take it seriously. I appreciate your sportsmanship by putting those big girls back to finish spawning.

      So apparently a bunch of folks think Lake Erie are only fished by Ohio fishers. Remember, some fishing is based on Ohio and others Michigan. Both states have different rod allowances.
      For these guys, they could’ve had up to 9 rods with 3 bodies on the boat.

  • @lunkercarp
    @lunkercarp 5 років тому

    If there's 3 on your boat, that's including camera man...you guys had 8 rods , that's breaking the law, your lucky our ODNR didn't bust you...and this video is proof!

      Appreciate the comment and concern. Heres some reading for you which describes the rules in MI waters, as its not only Ohio that has jurisdiction over the lake. www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-350-79119_79146---,00.html
