    Of all the mix tapes that survived the abuse of hot summers and frigid winters in my car, the UX Turbos came out the best. The tape in there is amazing and still sounds fantastic. The wrapper on the tapes I have left have the exact same problem...the gold printing sticks to the shell. I didn't care for the small shell window, but Maxell had gone down the same road by that point. It really didn't matter once it was recorded, since the car stereo hides the shell anyway.

    I love the ‘80’s badging on everything. Turbo, EFI, ABS, etc. Depending on how fast your deck rewinds ABS might be useful. 😉

      In the USA it was car marker SAAB that put the name Turbo on the map of advertisers, with the SAAB 900 Turbo. A great car way ahead of its time.
      Sad they are gone now since GM didn't know how run the company.

    Thanks, I just love the channel and like your voice and the way your talking. Found I have one Sony Walkman 90 Cassette recorded with James Bond movie themes on it. All my cassettes are stored in Posso archive boxes. When I was young I started recording on BASF Cassettes, later on different types of Maxell and the last recordings I made were almost all on Sony Esprit Cassettes (made in France), type IV. I used to record Dance Classics on these tapes. Keep on the good work and I always look forward to the next video. Ps: Could not resist and just purchased two Walkman Cassettes and one minidisc.

    The Sony Metal SR/XR from 1990 is still one of my favorites even if I have to light off some magnesium behind it to see where the tape is. If we were in some sort of parallel universe where digital never happened I'd expect that shell design to be what I'd find in the stores today.

    I couldn’t make out any hiss when playing this video on my iPad Pro speakers at reasonably high volume, but these tapes weren’t recorded with any Dolby?! Impressive quality! I recently recorded on a new Sony Type 2 and for the first time I was disappointed, as for the first time I had about 2 minutes worth of major drop-outs at the start of side 2. After that it was back at its best though. So, no brand of tape is absolutely perfect.

    What is very interesting is that the CR4 (recently came across a video showing its mechanism) also shows a gear assembly close to the head very similar to that of the CR7. They might actually share the same basis for the mechanics.

    I remember having a couple UX Turbos in my collection back in the day. I was stationed in Japan at the time and they were all over the place. The only thing I didn't like about them was they had the half-cases that only covered the bottom and the back. Fortunately, when they started selling them in the US, most of them had regular slim cases.
    The Walkman branded cassette, though, I've never heard of those. Is that something new?

    • @CassetteComeback

    Writing on the inlay cards for Walkman tapes were a nightmare, if I remember right! They gave those away with cheap Sony Walkmans in the early 90s. I had one (as a hard up student) around 1991. I had a Aiwa PS with loads of great features before that.It strangely started to use up a lot of battery power and then bit the dust....:-(

    I personally like the TDK tapes, setup correctly and they were great stuff. The SA chrome tape was a great listen and gave superb performance. The MA-R was probably the best tape made, it was a metal tape that really delivered as it were. The sound from them was very good indeed. The MA was a similar experience but without the metal reference shell, both had the same tape. On a decent tape deck they were pretty easy to manually calibrate, you got a sense of involvement as it were. Some other TDK tapes were pretty good stuff too, in fairness to them I don’t recall a bad tape from TDK. Maxell did some high quality stuff too and from memory it was pretty well liked at the time. When tape was in its most popular as it were you could almost get a tape for every letter of the alphabet. Technics had their tapes made by TDK, the similarities were almost identical. I don’t know if Nakamichi had tapes made for them like Technics did but it might be interesting to see what they deliver today. I think even Boots the chemist had tapes on sale at one time but I doubt them being an own brand. The magic of tape was all you had to do was press a button and enjoy.

      @barcrocker4802 5 років тому

      @@tapemaster8252 Thinking back to my older cassette decks without auto tape type selectors I believe the tape type does indeed making a difference for both recording and playback. On chrome and metal tapes, the recorder uses a 70u equalization time constant. On ferric tapes, it uses 120u. When playing back the same time constant should be used in order to preserve frequency response linearity - what is done during record must be undone during playback. This is why a chrome tape sounds 'brighter' when played back with the normal setting. But I could be wrong.

      @@watershed44 Haha, indeed. ICM also had Turbo cassettes (a couple of years before Sony), later ICM had Intercooler cassettes: www.45spaces.com/i/1bceb27b7a36a101

    I like your new deck! So it's digital sounding, digital got a bad rap! It's not the fact that something is cold because it's digital, no, it's cold because it's "low" or "medium" resolution digital at 44.1 16 ! Higher resolution formats like SACDS or hi resolution digital downloads, bring back the "warmth" ! I've heard people who hear a "hi resolution" digital format and they say "wow, that sounds like analog or an LP" ! So it's not digital that's the problem, it's "low" resolution digital that's the problem! Low resolution analog formats like 8 track or a cheap type 1 cassette sound cold as well! There I go again with my long winded comment again, sorry!

      @Vinyl City
      I've listened to the "hi bit" digital recordings on CD and DVD and they still have a bit of a sharp or harsh quality to them because in the end it still can't reproduce every single nuance of the analogue audio spectrum. It's close but still not the same, and trained ears can detect it.

      If you're not interested in cassettes, why are you watching cassette videos on a channel called cassette Comeback? But since you asked, see if you can glean anything from this video...

      Imagine a generation who had only ipods, mp3 players and streaming platforms to reference to hearing their music. To physically have a copy of your music was always something special, but also alot of young folks are simply fascinated in the technology that was made in the past to produce audio. The 80's and 90's wasnt really that long ago when you think about it and Cassette decks like the one in this video shows how Advanced technology produced really good sound. You would be quite amazed of how advanced we are today in technology yet, the technology of the 70's, 80's and 90's still gives equal or better results with Audio.
