Great video. You should have showed the train depot. It had battle damage. Also the house that Grant spent the night in is still there. Story is Grant offered to pay the lady of the house $50 us dollars and she asked for confederate money instead. Grant said that "she is not whipped yet" and the union soldiers cheered her.

During my 8 years living in Harrison TN just north of Chattanooga I worked as a service technician and had a large territory so I was able to visit many of these historical sites. I spent an hour here and was impressed by this site. It was under repair the day I was here. As others pointed out there was damage to the buildings in Ringgold that you can still see. The Post Office is one. Cleburne was an amazing General and was a major loss to the Confederacy.

I concur that adding the historic train depot would have been terrific. Also, the 76th Ohio lost their colors here going up White Oak Mountain. The Arkansas troops that captured them returned them to the Buckeyes after the war at one of their reunions.

I'm glad you mentioned the 'shunning' at the end of the video. Go Pat Cleburne!

FINALLY! Someone can explain the order of battle! I have walked all over that battle field looking for this information, I should have started at the train depot first. I had no idea the major fighting was on white oak mt/ridge, I thought it was all around the New York Monument and the Cleburne monument... who knew..

I live a half mile from the Cleburne statue. Is there any way you could share info on the location of the 30 acres? I've got a suspicion of where I think it is but would love to know for sure. I'll be sure to pitch in to help out the cause.

Goldthwaite's/Semple's Alabama Battery so lost their colors here, the battery flag (now held by the American Civil War Museum in Richmond) and its marker flag which is missing today.

So Hooker battles Cleburne? Interesting! The fighting is intense and among the reinforcements of the Union are regts from the former 11th corps?

I was born, raised, and still live in the area. Can anyone tell me why in the world the Confederates did not fortify Ringgold Gap and hold the line of Taylors Ridge, rather than retreating to Dalton and fortifying Rocky Face Ridge?
Taylors Ridge is a much more formidable barrier.
Taylors Ridge and White Oak Mountain extend for 50 miles or more(Idk the exact distance; it's a long way).
I'm not sure how many gaps are on the White Oak side between Ringgold and Collegedale, but it isn'tany and they are steep and narrow wagon roads(probably old Indian trails; this area was only open to white settlement 30 years before).
There are exactly 3 gaps between Ringgold and Summerville to the south(on further the ridge deadens in the Coosa river.)
Going to Rocky Face opens way up for maneuver and needs many more men to fortify.

"Pocket parks" is a nice pc way of stating that the battlefield is basically overrun by development.
