From a toy perspective you got 2 toys for the price of one. I'm also one of those kids who grew up with Pretenders being part of my childhood. For us? These things were awesome because your Transformer had a suit or "shell" that could help them fight. They've added alot of lore that make them neat but as transforming robots they were definitely reaching. These smaller Pretender alternate modes actually had real vehicle modes vs their larger Pretender cousins.
Same here. To be fair though, by the time they came out, I was reaching middle-school age and was beginning to lose interest. Probably didn't help that several of the new Transformers, of the time, were more cheaply made with WAY too simple transformations. Wasn't overly impressed with the Head/Target Masters, nor the Pretendors, and don't get me started on the original DuoCons and Throttlebots (the toys, not the characters).
The pretender line was an interesting concept and if the figures were articulated like the g.i joe ones then we could've had a great line. But with this super 7 figure that's pretty cool. We might get more pretender figures like stranglehold
Nice looking figure and great review! Pretenders and action masters were well after my interest in toys waned, but I appreciate them as oddities from a classic line.
I’m not really into Transformers that well..don’t transform, like you said ;) But this figure is definitely looking amazing, seriously amazing, so I just maybe have to make an exception myself. Sidenote: I still have the original G1-Bludgeon, and was totally shocked when I saw how much he is worth now😮 I always loved Bludgeon ever since I first laid eyes on him as a kid. There’s just something about him that I instantly fell in love with. Great video as always! 😊
Same here. They don’t get a pass just because they’re familiar characters. This one is cool though since there haven’t been a lot of versions of him and his shell didn’t transform anyways. Feels like an upgrade to an old figure rather than to an old Transformer.
Hi Michael! Just wanted to say that I think your channel is great. Outstanding collection, amazing editing (love your fx) and you seem like such a nice, genuine person.
I got a the first wave of Transformers Ultimates and was very upset with them because I know if the arms weren't as restricted as they are then I would have loved them and I had to cancel my preorders of the future waves. I will try to pick them up if I find them on discount. Even this Bludgeon as much as I want him and if I can't get him I'll get the Legacy one. Sure it's just Tarn with a new head and sword and that's a good toy so I'll be cool with it. I just want a Bludgeon to look cool in the collection and interact with my Drift. Also when it comes to Pertenders I will always love Vroom, he's just cool.
tbh im a lurker not a commenter but the way you had him all posed up at 19:21 sold me entirely and I've had highs and low lows with super7 quality (that stress mark pissed me off they gotta make this stuff user friendlier) but wow...that fully kitted up armored look. I dig it and I barely remember bludgeon. That hasbro new offering on tarn body mold now seems offensive lol.
That new Legacy one is Bludgeon in name only. Looks awful. Super7 figures having QC issues should be no surprise to anyone by now. Best that I hope for is that the positives will far outweigh the negatives. They certainly do in this case.
A video about that Bludgeon for once! I waited for mine forever to come out at BBTS. I do have my original, complete G1 Bludgeon and I got him at a ridiculous price a few years back (80$CAN in store credit by dumping some non-SS Bayformers!)... I consider that S7 Bludgeon to be a "Masterpiece" Bludgeon. 100% accurate to his pretender shell. My only complain is that his helmet just barely rest lightly on top of his head. Appart that flaw, he's pretty boss.
Can someone explain to me how Super 7 is allowed to create all these figures from different toy lines like GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man etc at the same time Hasbro and Mattel, are producing their own stuff?
Considering this comment is around 3 months old now you might have figured it out already, but I’ll tell you anyway just in case you haven’t. Basically super 7 pays the larger companies who own these brands (in this case hasbro) so they can make figures based on their properties. The license holder also probably makes a little bit of money from these kinds of releases so both parties benefit. It’s also a great way for the bigger companies to save trademarks they might not be planning to use for a while (same thing goes for established new or regaining old trademarks).
I preferred transformers that transform, I didn't see the point, but I'm old school thou😊, nice figure thou Michael ...nerdmaste, look forward to seeing your next video
Great Review, I was somewhat excited for this series when they were first announced them, but after getting the first wave in hand I was disappointed. I found the figures were a bit too limited for me, so I haven't been inclined to buy any of the new releases. Appreciate seeing in-hand video and hearing another persons perspective on the figures and reasons for buying or not buying.
Got mine today and it's awful. Feels flimsy, the head(s) are way too big and the helmets don't fit well and kept popping off (I came here looking to see if I was doing something wrong with the helmets). The shoulder pauldrons are way too big and restrict articulation (and knock the helmet). The legs are floppy on mine. And the articulation is extremely dated with single jointed elbows/knees that only have a limited range of movement. I bought this as a fan of the Marvel G1 comic Bludgeon. But this figure is overpriced junk. I'm gonna just send it back or if they won't take it then on eBay it goes. Fortunately I had pre-ordered it when it was £50 (which is still way more expensive than far superior action figures from other lines) before Super 7 increased prices to £75. Absolute joke of a price.
Pretenders kinda seem like someone at Takara wanted to incorporate Japanese Vinyl toys into Transformers. As for this Super7 figure, it bums me out thet they take SO long from Pre-Order to sending it to you and cant make the articulation tighter.
Love your work. I dont think of these as canon, I know others will disagree, it was reaching for more money. Funny though if they had of developed these characters in their own right they could have been big, look at how Power Rangers exploded. That was my baby brothers thing, 14 years younger, born 93😂
I was always torn as a kid, I resented pretenders and the route it was taking Transformers...but Bludgeon was so damn cool looking!
Same. I can see why Simon Furman picked him out of all of the 89 characters to be the new leader.
The cover sleeve on that box is awesome!!!
Pretenders never made sense to me as a gimmick nor as a plot device.
Yeah, they were reaching by that point.
From a toy perspective you got 2 toys for the price of one. I'm also one of those kids who grew up with Pretenders being part of my childhood.

Great review, Michael. I had been holding off watching this one until I had my own Bludgeon in hand. He arrived today 😊
Thanks for the review. Now I know to keep a hairdryer on hand to heat the plastic a bit when plugging in some of those pieces.
The pretender line was an interesting concept and if the figures were articulated like the g.i joe ones then we could've had a great line. But with this super 7 figure that's pretty cool. We might get more pretender figures like stranglehold
Hoping for Thunderwing, another G1 Pretender I had, sold years ago and is now really expensive.
Nice looking figure and great review! Pretenders and action masters were well after my interest in toys waned, but I appreciate them as oddities from a classic line.
Thanks! They sure are a motley looking crew, kind of like Transformers answer to Cobra La. They fit in more with Inhumanoids.
I love Bludgeon. And you made me remember Zellers, and riding that little bear ferris wheel even though I was way too big.
The legacy bludgeon is one of my favorite figures to mess with bludgeon is definitely very cool character

@@MichaelMercy got him ordered on bbts now! Super7 owes u a check 😂
It’s because of the G1 marvel comic run I want to pick up this figure as well.

A bit of sticky tac might help. The advantage of the loose helmet is it won’t scrape paint off the skull.
The box is the best thing about this figure.
😆
When do you think you’re going to do the The history of 1988
Hopefully before 2088.
@@MichaelMercybetter late than never 😉
At least I have an excuse to use the The time machine😂😂😂
Dont mean to sound rude but is transformers 1988 edition coming
Looks good man. I have it in my pile of loot at the bigbadtoystore 😀👍💡
Thanks. Hope you get a tight one. Watch that tank turret shield peg.
@@MichaelMercy I certainly will Michael 😀👍💡
Such a🔥badass looking figure...🤘🏼💯✔️ Super 7 is one of✨️greatest figure makers of all time...👍🏼

Agreed. Bludgeon was the exception rather than the rule.
A "transformer" without the transformer inside
I actually don’t like the Super7 transformers, but this one is hard to resist😬
Neat

Thanks. Since all I hoping for was something better and much cheaper than the G1 shell, I was pretty easy to impress in this case.
😘👍
