  • Buongiorno belli amici!! San Vito was an absolute joy to discover! The locals were so friendly that we even got a tour of the crypt below the church where the remains of martyrs are. We had one of the best lunches here but that’s in the next video so make sure to watch that coming up soon. We ate, we walked, we talked, and have a really lovely Sunday afternoon. Thanks for coming with us!! Ciao

    Thanks so much for the tour! My mother and her family were born in San Vito! Many people from San Vito emigrated to NYC suburbs in the first half of the 20th century. It definitely is earthquake country as my mother would often talk about the "terremoto". The tour of the church was wonderful. Offering a walking tour of Calabria is a brilliant idea.

    I was born in San Vito in 1955. My family and I immigrated to Toronto Canada in 1957. I hope to be able to visit San Vito for the first time in September 2022. This video confirms I will feel an emotional experience when I walk the streets and meet the local people where I was born!

    I spent a Saturday evening in March in San Vito. Unfortunately, I arrived after dark and couldn’t appreciate the charm of the town. Thanks for showing this video. BTW the dinner that I had was in private house( friends of my cousin) and it was delicious.

    Thanks for the tour of San Vito Sullo Ionia. And thank Angelo for always talking to the locals, like Antonio Gallo. We love to hear their stories and the history.
    It's fun to try to understand the Italian language since we are 'studenti di italiano'.
    Keeping up with you, Lilly, requires pause and rewind. You are fast.
    If you can, we love when we can read the various signs. Also, we'd like it if you walk into the flower shops and look about. My wife is a florist and loves seeing those shops.

    May I’ll be visiting my grandfathers birthplace and where my family traces back to mid 1500s, Volturara Irpina in Campania. I am hoping I can understand them. It’s a cute little town like this. My last name is Calabrese. Think it’s a sign of where I should live in Italy….

    Ciao! I came across your channel a few days ago while searching about villages in southern Italy. I am an American from Wisconsin but I currently live in Firenze where I am studying Italian. I have been here since October 2021 and love it! However, after I am done studying in October 2022 I am looking to move south and alongside the sea somewhere. I enjoyed several of your videos already and did subscribe to your channel! I am considering Sicily but am open to anywhere along the sea that is still close to restaurants, markets, etc. in walking distance. Any thoughts or suggestions on other areas to consider? Grazie mille! Paul in Firenze

      I started off my Italian life studying Italian in Firenze too!! Glad you found our little channel and that you are thinking of moving to the beach. I totally understand how you feel! I’m a complete beach bum and I love living where I do. I would defiantly look at soverato down where I am. It’s a big party town in the summer but in the winter it’s very chill. Lots of amazing nature close by and enough of things to do in the winter. There is also cosenza which is a big s student town or Reggio Calabria which is much bigger. I think the best thing is to come down and do a road trip here. Explore it for yourself. If you swing by my hood I’d love to have a cup of coffee and meet up. I’m like the official greeting committee here lol.

    Beautiful video of home town, but need to correct, the small entrance underneath the house was not for small people but for pigs, back in the days everyone kept the pigs in an area of the house called “catoio” in dialect. Yes the south was popular for the silk but the artist rendition in the Filanda” the cute little road is of women weaving their linen into tabke cloths, napkins etc, mostly used for a “dowry” . I have quite a few of those authentic woven items.
    As for the Santu Vito crypt its not his burial ground, it is believed the relics found there where of st vito which now are in the church upstairs that grotto has an ancient wooden sculpture of the saint, it is said that “he who enters with pure heart will hear the waters of the ocean” folklore of course. As for the statue of Giuseppe Casalinuovo he was a great poet. Sorry just felt I had to put my opinions on my town

    You have said that native Calabrians are kind and warm, but can be conservative and “closed minded”. How do they tend to react to people with visible tattoos? Asking for a friend…😁

    • @CalabriaDreaming
      @CalabriaDreaming  2 роки тому

      Many many Italians with tattoos and I think it’s very well accepted here so not to worry. Maybe some older folks might be judgy but they would never say anything. So they should be totally fine!
