Excellent video. I know this comment is being posted 4 years after you put the video up, but the information is just as relevant now, as when you posted it. Even though I am an experienced mechanic, I have never worked on ATVs, and this video had all the special information I needed to get the job done.
Hey man I’m working on my Yamaha Kodiak 400. Do you happen to have a simple diagram of where each hose connects on the carb to the fuel tank and air box? Thanks in advance, first time working on atvs
@@chrisgable8408 the throttle cable goes into right side triangular plate, the choke cable goes into the left side. The gas tube should be self explanatory. The size of gas port fits the intake tube from tank. All the rest are breather tubes.
hey man, where does the tube thats to the right of the choke cable, connect to? i bought a new carb and it has new tubes attached to it. I took the old carb out a year ago and im not to sure where it connected to
I don't mean to come off as snobby, I don't know too much about carbs, my brother is big Into 4 wheeling and he suggested I replace the carb cause the previous owner put on a cheap chinese amazon carb. So I'm wondering, did you get a 30-40$ carb and that's why it isn't running? I'm actually about to replace mine today.
Just put a new carb in my 2005 kodiak. Starts good, idles fine, goes forward and back. BUT if I give it more throttle, in neutral or in gear, is starts to bog and lag. Any ideas? Rev limiter? Pilot screw needs adjusting? I dont know much about them.
These carbs with the big throttle diaphragm can be finicky to having the air cleaner and tubes all in tact, to create the right suction. Make sure you’re air filter is in place, and that your air box lid is on and that your tube going from your air box to your carb has no cracks and that clamped down tight. Also theres a hose with about a 1/2 inside diameter that goes from the top of the carb to the intake pipe, make sure that hose is hooked up at both ends and that it doesn’t have any cracks, that hose will be crucial to running.
BTW, I forgot to mention. The "little brass thing", that holds the throttle cable in the carb? Well, it took as much time to figure out how to re-install that, as it took for the rest of the job. I found, that the only way to install it so that the tab of the cable would properly seat in the brass tab, was to jam the throttle cam of the carb full open, install the cable in the slot of the brass tab, and then insert the whole assembly into the hole. With every other method I tried, the cable end wouldn't properly seat in the retaining tab, and the throttle wouldn't close all the way. I found, that this part of the installation took infinite patience. Be warned.
My 2004 big bear 400 4x4 i think needs carb rebuilt, but thr carb on mine has 2 electrical wires on the bottom of the carb, not sure what they are for, i'm assuming it's a fuel solenoidn. I've seen several replacement carbs that don't have any electrical connectors, will it still work without those? Any hell would be great. Thanks.
Never seen that on Yamaha but some Hondas have a little heater on the carb, it’s not mandatory, so if you buy a carb without the wire it should be just fine

Thanks for the help...and being brave enough to share in this forum.
Thanks for taking the time and effort making this video.
Absolutely masterful video editing!!! Thank you for this!!
great video. Thank you for sharing! Will be taking my apart this weekend thanks to your instructions!
Excellent vid. I appreciate all the little warning tips along the way too.
Thanks a bunch and it can be a bit intimidating just by looking at the ATV. Wasn't sure how to remove the throttle cable.
What does the vacuum line hook to on the front of ATV ?
Great video! This was exactly what I was looking for.

please let me know if you found this out. trying to figure out where the hose thats to the right of the choke cable, connects to
Breather tube seems to be what you are indicating. It should go up on that rubber membrane below the tank and fit into appropriate holds.

I need help, my nephew took the carburetor off and he don't know where any of the hoses went, can someone please help me

The line directly on bottom of mine is just hanging down. Where does this go to?
The line that connects onto the very bottom of the carb is the overflow/drain hose, it just gets kinda routed so it can drain on the ground

Same heree
Thanks, I watched to learn how to remove the throttle cable

its for overflow i belive, its supposed to do that
Why didn’t you start. It
I just did this on mine but replaced with anew one and now it won't start. Is there something that needs to be done to prime the bowl?
Tap the carb the needle valve might be stuck or you could open the drain screw for a sec to make sure the carb fuel in it.

@@DavidSmith-rf5je that’s what I bought. Ran great for about ten minutes. So I used the seals and O rings ONLY and just cleaned the original.

@@brn2ride788 Hey, thanks man. I will check it out. Thanks from Maine!
Does it matter if breather hose is pointing up or just hanging down loosely? Thanks!
I know I’m late but I just had this issue with my 2000 kodiak 400 and it was the air filter the air filter had been turned to dust and fell apart
