This is a great video. I just bought a 2007 Mazda 3 with 72,000 miles. I'm replacing all the filters and fluids, as the last owner couldn't tell me much about the service history. The cabin filter replacement process is much harder than it needs to be. Thanks for the video. You made it as quick and as painless as could be expected. The cabin filters had never been changed. They were caked with dirt and leaves.
I have a 2007 got it in aug 2006 I have right now over 120,000 miles on it and I have never changed it either... who thought up this. Why the cabin filter and why such a damn stupid place for it to be.
You would think Mazda would make it a little easier to replace the cabin filter. It’s not as hard on any of my other cars. No wonder why it was never changed before!
How you remained so calm and patient getting to that filter just blows my mind. I have done it a couple times now and it still gets me so worked up! If it isnt the wiring harnesses giving me a hard time when i go to pull or replace the fuse box its the 12mm bolts and if its not the bolts then its getting the fuse box on/off of the bracket. And then when i get everything all back in place i go to turn the car on and something isnt working...power door locks, AC, turn signals. So back down i go, into some Twister-style position to unhook and rehook all of the wiring harnesses until i find the one that didnt go back in properly. Idk why its so hard to get them in right the first time, I mean, they are in such an accessible spot with plenty of room to hold the fuse box up high enough with one hand while pushing the harness down with the other and then clamping it shut. Pffft...childs play 🙄😐

Wow, I didn't even know this car had a cabin filter :0 Saw it might exist on Amazon parts... ooops. Very good video, Thank You for your help and expertise!
Jesus Christ, Mazda - did you build the entire car around the GD cabin air filter? Wow. I thought this was going to be a 5min job - tops .... looks like I'll clear my afternoon and evening for this.
My friend got a Mazda 6, pretty much just pull out the glove box (no tools needed) and click it open, switch it out and close it back up, figured a Mazda 3 would be just as easy... How wrong i was... Bet this design is taken from a Ford instead of proper Mazda... Thanks for the video tho :)
The nuts holding the bracket were 12mm. When I got in there, the filter plastic was there but no paper element left. I got in there with a boroscope after vacuuming and blowing out best I could, saw no evidence of paper residue. I can’t believe someone would go to the trouble of taking that out and just rip out the paper. 05 Mazda 3 250,000 miles. I just got it and have no history.
I stuck at 7:27. The two screws were very tight and I failed to remove them using 12mm deep well socket and a power drill. Is turning them counter clockwise correct and do you have any tips to loosen them?
You have saved me so much time / $ / angst. If there were a way for me to send you the $ that I would otherwise spend on simple repairs that I do myself, I totally would. Thx for being there for me / us.
Jason D thank you for your feedback about my videos If you want to send a donation or tip you can click on the fan funding button and send what you would like. Thanks again Jim
You forget to tell PPL how to place the cabin air filter back in place the one with the foam part goes in first on top then the other one next to it thank you great video though
What the hell is Mazda/Ford thinkin about with this one..!?!? No wonder it's never been changed thats a real "pain in the rear end" job for a simple cabin filter..!!
Ii really need some feedback.Ii have a 2005 Mazda 3 2.3 and the hose under where the air filter goes isn't connected. It seems like I'm the only one having this problem because i cant find anything on it. My hose seems smaller than the plastic part that the air filter goes into ( I'm sorry i don't know what its called) so in conclusion, any suggestions?
Hey Jim I just started subscribing to yourHey Jim I just started subscribing to your Channel. I had a question about a 2005 Mazda 3 2.3 l hatchback I don't have a front bumper and the Grill I've been looking for them in the junkyard cannot find them anywhere and all the prices online are too expensive for what I have available right now do you have any suggestions on where I could find something junkyard price that I could use? The regular sedan front bumper does not work for the hatchback. If you respond to my message either way would be greatly appreciate it thank you!
If you are blowing those you may want to check the motor for how much amps its drawing or you may be doing it again. If the motor is working hard due to bad bearings it will overload the resistor.
Thanks Mazda for such a *cough* brilliant location for a maintenance item that needs changing 1-2/year. Go look at a mid 2000's Honda Civic if you want to see some proper engineering so owners can easily maintain simple aspects of the car. This just reeks of a design to force, I mean encourage, owners to take car to dealer for simple stuff so the stealershi......ahem, dealership can charge outrageous labor and part prices. No thanks. Domestic cars are the absolute worst about their engineering and maintenance/stealerships though.
You seem to always get the pain in the ass jobs in your shop. I always say that I should have been a Gynecologist instead of a mechanic. All the makes and models are the same. {:-)
Genius cabin filter placement design. Real easy to change.
didn't realize this was sarcasm until I watched the video. LMAO

Just wondering if unplugging the Main Junction box, should one disconnect the battery first? @@63MGB1

Nice video. The engineering of this could of been easier. Thanks Mazda . What an ordeal to change these filters !!

Hey Jim...Always wandered how they fix those small cracks and that sure beats replacing the windshield. Good video Jim and don't work too hard!
+stuzman52 Hi Terry,Yes i have been using this kit for over 15 years saved a lot of windshield.Work hard whats that?Lol

Me too. The cabin filter comes in Monday. What an effin hassle.

The manufacturer obviously doesn't want you to change your own cabin air filter. 🙄

Can you send me a picture of the problem because the hose should just push on.
Do you need to disconnect the battery first before you unplug all those cables from the junction box?
I recommend you do. The BCM is not going to like it when you dont. You will get a ABS code.
You obviously know what you're doing, but this video made me sick with all the motion. Gives me a good place to start- thanks!
Thanks for watching. Im happy to help. Don't forget to subscribe.
thanks so much!!
this was so helpful!!! wow!!
I'm happy to help.Thank you for stopping by the shop.
Nobody shows how the connectors connect back to the junction box. Its driving me crazy!!!! not sure how they stay back on without pulling off!!!

Have you ever done the resistor for the AC blower motor?

Thanks Jim. You saved my bacon with this easy to follow guide.
Well I know that when I pull mine out I won't be putting a filter back in. I've driven a million miles in cars without cabin filters.
You didnt use enough swear words.
Im going to burn this fucking car to the ground
the cabine filter is a real pain in the ass
