Honestly, as someone who grew up with G3 and G4 now as an adult…G5 looks promising. I had my doubts but I ended up really enjoying it. I especially like Izzy.
Definitely can't wait to see the lore of G5 in the series. Especially since Sunny's dad referred to G4 as Ancient Equestria, and the mane 6 being a myth implies that it's at least been 1,000 years If not more than 1,000.
if we follow the lore though, it has to be at least 2000+ years, because if it weren't then Twilight would still be around, as she was the same type of alicorn as Celestia and Luna, who both lived well into their thousands
@@calem28 considering the fact that Twilight's reign was most likely 1000+ years ago, i don't think it was because Twilight was gone, more like Twilight put a failsafe in place to make sure the three pony races stayed friends

Izzy "We won't, we don't even know who you are." :) (Paraphrasing Izzy) All of the ponies had their great moments of humor but Izzy surprised me with that laid back quirkiness type of humor. She feels like a Luna Lovegood pony. She's my favorite hands down but I also love Sunny so much for being such a likeable idealist.
It would've been SO easy to make Izzy annoying, but skirting that line between excitable and irritating is hard and singlehoofedly gave me hope for the writing in the show.
I loved the movie way more than I thought I would. The weirdest thing is that when I first saw the characters as still images and even the first trailer, it was like a 4/10 for me but over time and especially after I saw the movie it became a 10/10. I am so glad I like it so much because I really loved G4 and very much wanted to enjoy this generation too.

The movie's opening was such a tease😆 The stained-glass panel they see gives an interesting theory as to what might have happened. Best I can make of it without them having provided any other details is, at some point, Twilight must've instructed each tribe to present a crystal which she and the rest of the Mane 6 infused with a massive amount of magic. For what reason, we can only speculate at this point. Perhaps Twilight and the others actually became the magic itself infused into the crystals? And, without Twilight and the others as guiding lights, arguments broke out among the tribes that resulted in each tribe taking back their piece of the crystal out of spite, not realising that's why magic went away?
My theory is that the mane six died, not by a new foe or some cataclysmic event, but by old age !! Maybe not twilight as she could be immortal, her friends aren't!! So maybe she left equestria due to sadness or maybe she also died of old age!! Still, after that equestria would have no ruler, and the earth ponies, pegasy and unicorns might have fought over who gets to rule equestria!! So war broke out! And in the end, the three tribes were separated from each other!! Probably for 1000 years, mostly because its an important number in the series!!!
I really hope the show handles the "set into the far future" aspect kinda like Adventure Time, (of course not with the war-torn aspect and bombs and skeletons scattered around) Like imagine, let's say the main cast goes into this new location that is a plain where these magic crystal grow and that they sprout from a bigger crystal at the center, now imagine if that big crystal has a familiar structure and after comparing it a bit you realize that that's Twilight's castle in ponyville that after ages has broken down but still conserves it's magic, how cool would be that? It would be extremely sad for us fans of G4 of course, but it would give the world so much depth and also give new viewers a desire to catch up with that now ancient series. Whatever the case, I can't wait for G5, let's all hope it's as great as G4 and even more
Yes! I also want them to possibly find the ruins of Canterlot if it didn't turn into Zephr Heights, that is. Also, I want to see what happened to the Crystal Empire. There are so many small/big things I want them to give us explanations for, mainly because I don't want them to throw away my childhood.
@@officialmai I don't think Zephr Heights is Canterlot because of the airport implying it had instead connections with other cities and so possibly Canterlot. I'm extremely curious about the Crhstal Empire too because as a fan of the comic I would really love an animated version of the Umbrums (maybe they were involved in the possible cataclysm that turned Equestria in what is now)

Yup, felt very much like early g4. I was fine with the pop songs in the g5 tbh but Izzys song just had that childish and silly charm i loved in FIM as a child
I wonder if Things like the Alicorn Amulett and the Staff of Sarkanas still exist..... And Grogar's Bell should also still be around...but that would make the Staff less important.

@btamamura Those are all very good Points. I still wonder what is the Deal with those Crystals. Like....did Twilight somehow seal *all* of Equestrias Magic in them to keep it from falling into Tirek's or maybe Grogar's Hands (He can, after all, only absorb the Magic of living Things, not Objects)? What about the Treehouse of Harmony? That weird Thing should still be there and hopefully keep the Everfree Forest from growing out of Control.
I was really impressed with this movie, especially with how they handled all the characters and environments. It also did a solid job establishing this new generation as both its own thing and a distant future iteration of the G4 era. I hope the show goes into more detail on how the pony races separated, as well as losing contact with the other creatures (i.e. dragons, yaks, griffons). As for favorite elements in the film: Environment: Zephyr Heights Characters: Sunny and Izzy Song: Gonna Be My Day (aka the opening song) Joke: the forbidden words in Bridlewood and the unicorns reaction to them Moment: Izzy revealing she got Sunny's message via floating lantern
Sadly I don't think it'll be nearly as popular as Gen 4 was. The hype and culture shock of grown men watching MLP isn't there anymore, and I miss it dearly.
Probably it might create its own set of attention and buzz. I'm liking the balance G5 is setting out by including male characters in the cast, even plentiful in the supporting cast. G5 seems intentional in catching male viewers, even if it's just a minority, compared to how G4 began with its targeted audience.
If the culture shock of it is gone, it might actually be calmer to be a fan. Even after the shock and hype wore off and it just became, "Ok, yeah, some grown men like watching MLP, I've heard it," I think that initial outrage was still bothering a lot of bronies. But maybe now, people won't bother to be outraged about that specific thing (there's plenty of other things people will find to get upset about), and MLP fans can enjoy, discuss, criticize, and celebrate the show (and the fandom!) without haters bugging us.
I love this movie! It is awesome! The characters are really great, the songs are really good, and the animation is beautiful. My favorite character is Pipp because she is cute, beautiful and very talented. I also feel like how the is with social media is something we can all relate to nowadays. I also surprised how good of a rating this film has, that is really impressive to have that high of a rating! I really love the opening scene with the Mane 6 from Friendship is Magic. It not only shows that this is the same Equestria that is from the previous show, but also a nice little wave of nostalgia for the bronies. It was amazing, and also very hilarious with Sprout making Rarity evil. I am so happy they put the characters in that opening scene, and got all their voice actress back for it. I agree that the 2017 movie should have a better rating, it is an awesome movie for the show we love. This movie was a lot better than I thought it would be, and the ending was surprising, but awesome. I can not wait to see what they do with these characters in the series.
Next to the PAW Patrol movie, My Little Pony: a New Generation is my favourite animated movie of 2021. Like the PAW Patrol movie, the CGI animation for MLP is elegant, you could see almost every strand of fur, and every muscle under the fur, it's amazing how both movies are so beautifully animated. I have seen both movies a dozen times already, now I going to watch again for another dozen.
A combined set of low hopes and expectations, how MLP's reputation used to be before G4, and G5's premiere to actually be competent and promising, yeah it makes sense why.
I loved the movie it was really well done and I’m happy to see that it was so good. I’m happy to see the spirit of MLP is still here and a new generation will still have a lot of heart put into it can’t wait for the new series.
This movie was much better than I thought it was going to be. I was mostly worried about the premise, writing and characters. After watching it, I'm certainly intrigued about where they'll go with it. Also, the oppressive atmosphere and reliance on technology kind of made me think of Final Fantasy VI. *SPOILERS* I'm intrigued about the origin of the three crystals. My guess is that they were left to the ponies as a sort of gift to help maintain harmony and magic, possibly created shortly before all the alicorns died or disappeared. I also think that while never actually stated, maybe the existence of at least one alicorn in the world makes magic work, if Sunny suddenly becoming one at the end is any indication.
I think it makes sense that the alicorns are possibly deceased, especially if my assumption is right that g5 takes place about 5000-7000 years in the future.
Ranking the movies in the franchise I've seen 1.) Rainbow Rocks 2.) Friendship Games 3.) A New Generation 4.) Equestria Girls 5.) Legend of Everfree 6.) the 2017 movie I don't hate the 2017 movie, but a New Generation is better at establishing its new main cast than the G4 movie, where it felt like a movie newcomers couldn't understand unless they seen the show.
Rainbow Rocks has the most solid writing and extremely competent villians, thus a more interesting plotline. Although, New Generation has the most interesting and engaging dynamic of main characters out of all these. I guess people will just pick which is their type of entertainment from here.
I grew up with mlp gen 4 and it’ll always hold a place in my heart, when I saw it come out on Netflix it was such a heartwarming feeling. I’m not into the show anymore and kinda grew out of it, but it’ll always be one of those shows that you just got check up on, no matter what. :)
OMG, I'd just... I would love to wait for a Bronies React: MLP: A New Generation! Like, everybrony gets together to watch it! I'd just love that! but I'll wait. UwU
I really enjoyed it! I do hope they cover in the series how magic was lost and how Sunny's dad was able to do so much accurate research among so much false history being taught to the population. Maybe also cover the lack of cutie marks on most of the other ponies but not all of them. So will they say it was due to magic being gone, but then way would some (most notably the main 5) have one? But I really liked it and I think it is a great intro to Gen5!
I was really amazed at just how much this movie managed to tug at my heart strings. For a while I was very worried that this movie just wouldn't be able to live up to the extremely high expectations set by the G4 show but it definitely and happily proved me wrong. If there really is a follow up show coming I can't wait for it, I really hope that with time these characters will become more complex and fleshed out along with its world being further explored. Since this is a streaming show it definitely has the potential to take things a bit further than DHX safely could on television. We'll just have to wait and see.
I honestly really enjoyed the movie! The soundtrack and animation really brought out the whole futuristic look and idea that we've moved on from the old equestria to a new and more modern one. It would be kinda disappointing if the animation for the series turns out to be worse or not as magical since it will be a different studio, but hopefully they can keep the same energy and consistency as the movie. Everyone seems happy with gen 5 so far.
Don't have high expectations for the animation quality for the series. I don't want to sound rude, but it's better to have a lower expectation so you won't be disapointed. Also, very often, the series from a movie is lower quality because of budget.
It was really cool! And I’m. So so so glad there is a whole new generation for a whole new people to enjoy. The way I did with (G4) it’s nice just to sit back and watch a wholesome film. This movie was pretty amazing, the animation was flawless like yes! And I can’t wait to see more!
This is so nostalgic for me as an old school Paleo fan. Oh by the way, remember Dusk’s Dawn? (It’s this MLP fan thing that Paleo was asked to appear in, and it’s… uh… very unique lol)
Overall the movie was rly good, sure you could feel that it was made for kids, plot was very predictable and everything was happening super fast, but I still enjoyed the story! And the songs were amazing! I didn't think that I would like Pipp as much as I did. I thought she would be kinda like Rarity, but oh boi I was so wrong. She is the only one that wasn't instantly like "yeah let's go with those strangers to bring magic back and save the world". The scene that hit me the most was when Pipp was hanging by the wires and she spoted Zipp. The instant feel of total betrayal in her eyes! The whole life she was "the star" with loving mother and amazing sister and suddely her whole world colapsed and seeing her own sister leave her there in the middle of spotlight (with everyone angry at her for the lie) just to help strangers get some crystal??? This must have been the worst moment in her life and you can see that in her eyes and hear in her voice when she says "Zipp?" That was such an amazing scene! I also like how they made Izzy's intrest in recycling. It will be fun to see where it goes if the series launches. Another funny thing I spotted is how they don't mention the cutiemarks EVEN ONCE. I mean... it has to be some sort of magic right? Them apearing on their buts when they discover their magic? Also if the ponies were separated what about Wendigos???
@btamamura yeah but why? Ponies were against each other before first heartswarming and they had magic. Or when Chrysalis, Cozy and Tirek divided them. Also how a magical creature can be gone? So now when magic is restored they will just apear back? Or are they gone forever? Ponies were magical creatures too and they stayed, if so then jow do wendigos look without magic? So many questions.
I loved the movie, i wasn't expecting to love it that much. I've seen it 3 times now, and there are so many thinks to like. Also, every time Sunny asks her dad "Why can't we be friends anymore?" it really melts my heart, so sad and cute at the same time. Also, i love how this new generation pays homage to the past, and respects the Mane 6. Sunny loves the mane six the same way we do, and that's lovely
I loved the movie but... Did anyone else notice there were no tears shed in this movie? Plenty of times I would have expected tears, but none. Not a single one. I just thought that was very odd.

I get what you mean when you say you wish they did more with the animation, but honestly that just speaks to the quality of the movie when the biggest complaint is "I want more" Roll on the special and series!

This movie is stellar. A great start to G5. Izzy has to be the best character though Hitch comes close. The songs are all great but the one that I really like is Sprouts' villain song.
Personally, I really enjoyed the movie. At first, I was nervous watching it, sort of nervous it was gonna be a pretty big flop, but I was certainly pleasantly surprised at how good of a start it was to this generation. Now, yea, I got some notes about it, but I know there was only so much exposition they could fit into an hour and thirty minutes. But other than the fact that we’re left wondering what happened beforehand (between the end of S9 and the start of G5), this was an excellent movie. I’m also very excited to see what the new show is gonna have in store for us, like what the story will be like in there, and if we’ll see anymore G4 cameos (I hope I can at least get a tiny crumb of Discord)
Haha was watching it for a second time in my parents room and my mom was there with me. We had to stop cuz it was late but she said she wanted to continue because she was hooked XD which I’m glad because I love it and the animation very much.
It doesn't really explain about how and why Sunny became alicorn at the end of the film like is she becoming a princess like Twilight and also isn't Sprout suppose to be punished for all the chaos that he had cause.
Old Equestria already had early 20th century (OTL) technology, so imagine if the time gap is characterized as incredibly long but the lore reveals it’s only been, like, 80 years
I really enjoyed it! I do have some questions about the world, but that can be explained in the show, and isn't super important to the film. Mostly things like how did everyone get split up again? If they're all fighting like this, where are the wendigos? Where did the crystals come from? That and I really want to know where discord is, since he's supposed to be immortal. How's he doing all these years later without Fluttershy around?
there are 2 scenes I found that were more important than you'd think. the sequence in which the crystals restored the magic, and the glass mural in the canterlot blimp station. Notice that the mural depicts twilights cutie mark baithing the world, AND the crystals in light. and that the circles surounding that light each have 3 spikes with twilights cutie mark colour. Combined with the fact the crystals created an alicorn THEN jump started magic back into life, and that g4 ponies depicted important historical events in glass, this suggests some interesting things. Namely, I think it suggests that 1) Alicorns create useable magic, not artifiacts, 2) The crystals were almost certainly created before twilights death with the intention of acting as a stop gap measure, and a means of jump starting the next alicorn assention. If this is true, it would certainly make sense of why the failure of magic is within living memory, but the end of the eara of friendship isn't. Either way, I freaking loved this movie and am eagerly awaiting more.
I think it's safe to assume that it's been 1000 years since the mane six!!! (the 1000 year mark is really important in the original series)but at the end of the original series, friendship was spread all across equestria, creating peace among all the kingdoms!! So how did they go from world peace, to being devided between species!!!??
Honestly. I'm so glad that this turned out the way it was. If the show is of the same quality or better. I won't have any qualms or issues with it. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Even after my third watch. today. I especially like the Easter eggs and all that. Such as Grogar's bell in Sunny's house.
IMDB has the original at 6.1 and the new one at 7.4. I do agree being new movie does help it. I don’t know how I feel about it changing animation studios to be honest
I am a complete newby to MLP. Choosing to watch this movie on a whim because I was feeling down a couple weeks ago. Absolutely loved it! Izzy is my favorite, too. It was so enjoyable for those of us who’ve never watched anything My little Pony related in our life.
I was kinda pesimistic about G5 beforehand but after 3 or 4 min into the movie i begun to like it and the first song hit me hard and i love it already, can't wait for more :3
I think it's good that they didn't go too deep with the lore right out of the gate, as this is meant to be the beginning of a new generation (and the introduction of new fans to the franchise) so a story that focuses a lot on lore would sacrifice character development - which is really the strongest point of the film! Sunny and Izzy have INCREDIBLE chemistry, more than I've ever seen between two characters in this franchise before, and it adds a lot to the enjoyability factor - those two are 100% the driving force of this new generation. The nods to G4 (like the various magical artifacts strewn about the lighthouse, even though it doesn't make too much sense for Sunny's father to have such powerful artifacts just lying around casually) were honestly enough for me lore-wise, I'm just hoping they take some time within the show to investigate it a bit more deeply to appeal to G4 fans...because right now there's an awful lot of plot holes and missing steps to fill.
I guess if you think about it, the advanced technology really does make sense that far into the future. We already saw some technology usage, the main example I can think of being Vinyl Scratch's DJ setup, so it stands to reason that would just expand.
Makes sense that the stone would have been responsible for the ponies forgetting the magic of friendship. It would also explain what happened to the other creatures they had shared their society with back in gen 4. Perhaps there was an incident involving a villain that caused the memories of Twilight's accomplishments as the princess of friendship to disappear. Then decades later sunny's dad rediscovered it in some old relics and used his findings to proved to everyone that the three pony tribes used to live in harmony. Omg can't wait to see what they do with this in the series, PLEASE BE GOOD.
The third act climax was also handled surprisingly well in terms of friendship in action. It honestly would have been a little nicer if the crystals were actually embedded embedded power but didn't mean anything without it and how that would force pipp and zipp to actually try to lift their body weight but I understand it would cause problems.
I had never seen anything MLP related before watching this movie, I just watched it on Netflix because I was bored and I really enjoyed it and made me wanna see more of the characters, so I guess it turned me into a MLP fan so it did it’s job of getting new people interested

So I just saw the movie yesterday and it wasn’t that bad I did enjoy it, personally i didn’t enjoy the songs and just skipped them, but I might give them a listen to on their own now that I got the full story. Though it wasn’t perfect, I found the ending to be a bit rushed and lacking, I found it weird how Sunny had this huge revelation when her father’s house was destroyed and I found the use of an Alicorn in this movie a bit unearned if you ask me. Plus, this is just a personal thing, I don’t like that the ground is unbalanced with two pegasus, one earth pony, one unicorn, and one Alicorn and I find that a bit bit strange since this movie is all about unity. Now these things I think could be fixed like if Sunny broke down in despair at seeing her home and the picture destroyed and have the others ponies come to cheer her up and put the pieces together and that causes the spark that gives her the realization. The Alicorn thing if it were me I’d keep Sunny an Earth pony but give the illusion that she became an Alicorn to leave room for future stories and growth for Sunny and her friends and allow her to earn her Alicorn position.

My theory is that the mane six died, not by a new foe or some cataclysmic event, but by old age !! Maybe not twilight as she could be immortal, her friends aren't!! So maybe she left equestria due to sadness or maybe she also died of old age!! Still, after that equestria would have no ruler, and the earth ponies, pegasy and unicorns might have fought over who gets to rule equestria!! So war broke out! And in the end, the three tribes were separated from each other!! Probably for 1000 years, mostly because its an important number in the series!!!
I really hope the show handles the "set into the far future" aspect kinda like Adventure Time, (of course not with the war-torn aspect and bombs and skeletons scattered around) Like imagine, let's say the main cast goes into this new location that is a plain where these magic crystal grow and that they sprout from a bigger crystal at the center, now imagine if that big crystal has a familiar structure and after comparing it a bit you realize that that's Twilight's castle in ponyville that after ages has broken down but still conserves it's magic, how cool would be that? It would be extremely sad for us fans of G4 of course, but it would give the world so much depth and also give new viewers a desire to catch up with that now ancient series. Whatever the case, I can't wait for G5, let's all hope it's as great as G4 and even more
Yes! I also want them to possibly find the ruins of Canterlot if it didn't turn into Zephr Heights, that is. Also, I want to see what happened to the Crystal Empire. There are so many small/big things I want them to give us explanations for, mainly because I don't want them to throw away my childhood.

I was really impressed with this movie, especially with how they handled all the characters and environments. It also did a solid job establishing this new generation as both its own thing and a distant future iteration of the G4 era. I hope the show goes into more detail on how the pony races separated, as well as losing contact with the other creatures (i.e. dragons, yaks, griffons).
As for favorite elements in the film:

Sadly I don't think it'll be nearly as popular as Gen 4 was. The hype and culture shock of grown men watching MLP isn't there anymore, and I miss it dearly.

Probably it might create its own set of attention and buzz. I'm liking the balance G5 is setting out by including male characters in the cast, even plentiful in the supporting cast. G5 seems intentional in catching male viewers, even if it's just a minority, compared to how G4 began with its targeted audience.
If the culture shock of it is gone, it might actually be calmer to be a fan. Even after the shock and hype wore off and it just became, "Ok, yeah, some grown men like watching MLP, I've heard it," I think that initial outrage was still bothering a lot of bronies. But maybe now, people won't bother to be outraged about that specific thing (there's plenty of other things people will find to get upset about), and MLP fans can enjoy, discuss, criticize, and celebrate the show (and the fandom!) without haters bugging us.
I love this movie! It is awesome! The characters are really great, the songs are really good, and the animation is beautiful. My favorite character is Pipp because she is cute, beautiful and very talented. I also feel like how the is with social media is something we can all relate to nowadays. I also surprised how good of a rating this film has, that is really impressive to have that high of a rating! I really love the opening scene with the Mane 6 from Friendship is Magic. It not only shows that this is the same Equestria that is from the previous show, but also a nice little wave of nostalgia for the bronies. It was amazing, and also very hilarious with Sprout making Rarity evil. I am so happy they put the characters in that opening scene, and got all their voice actress back for it. I agree that the 2017 movie should have a better rating, it is an awesome movie for the show we love. This movie was a lot better than I thought it would be, and the ending was surprising, but awesome. I can not wait to see what they do with these characters in the series.
Next to the PAW Patrol movie, My Little Pony: a New Generation is my favourite animated movie of 2021. Like the PAW Patrol movie, the CGI animation for MLP is elegant, you could see almost every strand of fur, and every muscle under the fur, it's amazing how both movies are so beautifully animated. I have seen both movies a dozen times already, now I going to watch again for another dozen.

A combined set of low hopes and expectations, how MLP's reputation used to be before G4, and G5's premiere to actually be competent and promising, yeah it makes sense why.

I loved the movie it was really well done and I’m happy to see that it was so good. I’m happy to see the spirit of MLP is still here and a new generation will still have a lot of heart put into it can’t wait for the new series.
The film wasn't perfect, but it was definitely worthy of being called "cinema".
This movie was much better than I thought it was going to be. I was mostly worried about the premise, writing and characters. After watching it, I'm certainly intrigued about where they'll go with it. Also, the oppressive atmosphere and reliance on technology kind of made me think of Final Fantasy VI.

I'm intrigued about the origin of the three crystals. My guess is that they were left to the ponies as a sort of gift to help maintain harmony and magic, possibly created shortly before all the alicorns died or disappeared. I also think that while never actually stated, maybe the existence of at least one alicorn in the world makes magic work, if Sunny suddenly becoming one at the end is any indication.
I think it makes sense that the alicorns are possibly deceased, especially if my assumption is right that g5 takes place about 5000-7000 years in the future.

Rainbow Rocks has the most solid writing and extremely competent villians, thus a more interesting plotline. Although, New Generation has the most interesting and engaging dynamic of main characters out of all these. I guess people will just pick which is their type of entertainment from here.
I grew up with mlp gen 4 and it’ll always hold a place in my heart, when I saw it come out on Netflix it was such a heartwarming feeling. I’m not into the show anymore and kinda grew out of it, but it’ll always be one of those shows that you just got check up on, no matter what. :)

I really enjoyed it! I do hope they cover in the series how magic was lost and how Sunny's dad was able to do so much accurate research among so much false history being taught to the population. Maybe also cover the lack of cutie marks on most of the other ponies but not all of them. So will they say it was due to magic being gone, but then way would some (most notably the main 5) have one?
But I really liked it and I think it is a great intro to Gen5!
I was really amazed at just how much this movie managed to tug at my heart strings. For a while I was very worried that this movie just wouldn't be able to live up to the extremely high expectations set by the G4 show but it definitely and happily proved me wrong. If there really is a follow up show coming I can't wait for it, I really hope that with time these characters will become more complex and fleshed out along with its world being further explored. Since this is a streaming show it definitely has the potential to take things a bit further than DHX safely could on television. We'll just have to wait and see.
I had mixed feelings about this movie at first but after watching it the same day it released I was pleasantly surprised and that’s satisfying to me.
I don't think the story and songs were super special but that animation and the 3D models were so gorgeous and I liked the characters too.

I honestly really enjoyed the movie! The soundtrack and animation really brought out the whole futuristic look and idea that we've moved on from the old equestria to a new and more modern one. It would be kinda disappointing if the animation for the series turns out to be worse or not as magical since it will be a different studio, but hopefully they can keep the same energy and consistency as the movie. Everyone seems happy with gen 5 so far.
Don't have high expectations for the animation quality for the series. I don't want to sound rude, but it's better to have a lower expectation so you won't be disapointed. Also, very often, the series from a movie is lower quality because of budget.
It was really cool! And I’m. So so so glad there is a whole new generation for a whole new people to enjoy. The way I did with (G4) it’s nice just to sit back and watch a wholesome film. This movie was pretty amazing, the animation was flawless like yes! And I can’t wait to see more!

Overall the movie was rly good, sure you could feel that it was made for kids, plot was very predictable and everything was happening super fast, but I still enjoyed the story! And the songs were amazing!
I didn't think that I would like Pipp as much as I did. I thought she would be kinda like Rarity, but oh boi I was so wrong. She is the only one that wasn't instantly like "yeah let's go with those strangers to bring magic back and save the world".
The scene that hit me the most was when Pipp was hanging by the wires and she spoted Zipp. The instant feel of total betrayal in her eyes! The whole life she was "the star" with loving mother and amazing sister and suddely her whole world colapsed and seeing her own sister leave her there in the middle of spotlight (with everyone angry at her for the lie) just to help strangers get some crystal??? This must have been the worst moment in her life and you can see that in her eyes and hear in her voice when she says "Zipp?" That was such an amazing scene!
I also like how they made Izzy's intrest in recycling. It will be fun to see where it goes if the series launches.
Another funny thing I spotted is how they don't mention the cutiemarks EVEN ONCE. I mean... it has to be some sort of magic right? Them apearing on their buts when they discover their magic?
Also if the ponies were separated what about Wendigos???

I loved the movie, i wasn't expecting to love it that much. I've seen it 3 times now, and there are so many thinks to like. Also, every time Sunny asks her dad "Why can't we be friends anymore?" it really melts my heart, so sad and cute at the same time. Also, i love how this new generation pays homage to the past, and respects the Mane 6. Sunny loves the mane six the same way we do, and that's lovely

Did anyone else notice there were no tears shed in this movie? Plenty of times I would have expected tears, but none. Not a single one. I just thought that was very odd.
I also can't recall any sniffing in sadness too 🤔 An odd detail to point out. This movie isn't even trying to be sad.

This movie is stellar. A great start to G5. Izzy has to be the best character though Hitch comes close. The songs are all great but the one that I really like is Sprouts' villain song.

For the past two years I've really fallen out of the fandom, but this movie actually got me a bit excited for ponies again... it was just really good
Personally, I really enjoyed the movie. At first, I was nervous watching it, sort of nervous it was gonna be a pretty big flop, but I was certainly pleasantly surprised at how good of a start it was to this generation. Now, yea, I got some notes about it, but I know there was only so much exposition they could fit into an hour and thirty minutes. But other than the fact that we’re left wondering what happened beforehand (between the end of S9 and the start of G5), this was an excellent movie.
I’m also very excited to see what the new show is gonna have in store for us, like what the story will be like in there, and if we’ll see anymore G4 cameos (I hope I can at least get a tiny crumb of Discord)

I can't believe that this was actually good! I kind of prefer it to the Friendship is Magic opening Two Parter in some respects.
Old Equestria already had early 20th century (OTL) technology, so imagine if the time gap is characterized as incredibly long but the lore reveals it’s only been, like, 80 years
I really enjoyed it! I do have some questions about the world, but that can be explained in the show, and isn't super important to the film. Mostly things like how did everyone get split up again? If they're all fighting like this, where are the wendigos? Where did the crystals come from?
That and I really want to know where discord is, since he's supposed to be immortal. How's he doing all these years later without Fluttershy around?
In my opinion, the tech was integrated really well, even though i see a lot of people complaining about it
Hitch's calendar had me losing it. It was just so funny!
there are 2 scenes I found that were more important than you'd think. the sequence in which the crystals restored the magic, and the glass mural in the canterlot blimp station. Notice that the mural depicts twilights cutie mark baithing the world, AND the crystals in light. and that the circles surounding that light each have 3 spikes with twilights cutie mark colour.
Combined with the fact the crystals created an alicorn THEN jump started magic back into life, and that g4 ponies depicted important historical events in glass, this suggests some interesting things.
Namely, I think it suggests that
1) Alicorns create useable magic, not artifiacts,
2) The crystals were almost certainly created before twilights death with the intention of acting as a stop gap measure, and a means of jump starting the next alicorn assention.
If this is true, it would certainly make sense of why the failure of magic is within living memory, but the end of the eara of friendship isn't.
Either way, I freaking loved this movie and am eagerly awaiting more.
I think it's safe to assume that it's been 1000 years since the mane six!!! (the 1000 year mark is really important in the original series)but at the end of the original series, friendship was spread all across equestria, creating peace among all the kingdoms!! So how did they go from world peace, to being devided between species!!!??

Honestly. I'm so glad that this turned out the way it was. If the show is of the same quality or better. I won't have any qualms or issues with it. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Even after my third watch. today. I especially like the Easter eggs and all that. Such as Grogar's bell in Sunny's house.

I am a complete newby to MLP. Choosing to watch this movie on a whim because I was feeling down a couple weeks ago. Absolutely loved it! Izzy is my favorite, too. It was so enjoyable for those of us who’ve never watched anything My little Pony related in our life.
I was kinda pesimistic about G5 beforehand but after 3 or 4 min into the movie i begun to like it and the first song hit me hard and i love it already, can't wait for more :3
I think it's good that they didn't go too deep with the lore right out of the gate, as this is meant to be the beginning of a new generation (and the introduction of new fans to the franchise) so a story that focuses a lot on lore would sacrifice character development - which is really the strongest point of the film! Sunny and Izzy have INCREDIBLE chemistry, more than I've ever seen between two characters in this franchise before, and it adds a lot to the enjoyability factor - those two are 100% the driving force of this new generation.
The nods to G4 (like the various magical artifacts strewn about the lighthouse, even though it doesn't make too much sense for Sunny's father to have such powerful artifacts just lying around casually) were honestly enough for me lore-wise, I'm just hoping they take some time within the show to investigate it a bit more deeply to appeal to G4 fans...because right now there's an awful lot of plot holes and missing steps to fill.
G1 was in the movie too! Can't wait to see more G5
I guess if you think about it, the advanced technology really does make sense that far into the future. We already saw some technology usage, the main example I can think of being Vinyl Scratch's DJ setup, so it stands to reason that would just expand.

Makes sense that the stone would have been responsible for the ponies forgetting the magic of friendship. It would also explain what happened to the other creatures they had shared their society with back in gen 4. Perhaps there was an incident involving a villain that caused the memories of Twilight's accomplishments as the princess of friendship to disappear. Then decades later sunny's dad rediscovered it in some old relics and used his findings to proved to everyone that the three pony tribes used to live in harmony. Omg can't wait to see what they do with this in the series, PLEASE BE GOOD.

Really enjoyed this film, was so much fun. Especially when they got to the Pegasus town, so many little references on the shop billboards and stuff.
The third act climax was also handled surprisingly well in terms of friendship in action. It honestly would have been a little nicer if the crystals were actually embedded embedded power but didn't mean anything without it and how that would force pipp and zipp to actually try to lift their body weight but I understand it would cause problems.
I had never seen anything MLP related before watching this movie, I just watched it on Netflix because I was bored and I really enjoyed it and made me wanna see more of the characters, so I guess it turned me into a MLP fan so it did it’s job of getting new people interested

I haven’t seen the movie yet and I honestly thought G5 would be awful but the trailer has me believing better.
So I just saw the movie yesterday and it wasn’t that bad I did enjoy it, personally i didn’t enjoy the songs and just skipped them, but I might give them a listen to on their own now that I got the full story. Though it wasn’t perfect, I found the ending to be a bit rushed and lacking, I found it weird how Sunny had this huge revelation when her father’s house was destroyed and I found the use of an Alicorn in this movie a bit unearned if you ask me. Plus, this is just a personal thing, I don’t like that the ground is unbalanced with two pegasus, one earth pony, one unicorn, and one Alicorn and I find that a bit bit strange since this movie is all about unity.
Now these things I think could be fixed like if Sunny broke down in despair at seeing her home and the picture destroyed and have the others ponies come to cheer her up and put the pieces together and that causes the spark that gives her the realization. The Alicorn thing if it were me I’d keep Sunny an Earth pony but give the illusion that she became an Alicorn to leave room for future stories and growth for Sunny and her friends and allow her to earn her Alicorn position.
I hope in the serialisation of this generation that we get to see what happened excatly to the elements of Harmony
I was gonna say i didnt expect sprout to be the "villain," but his red coat made him sus lmao
