If anyone in those comments actually played AC1 (not even to a point where they can play well, just played it normally) then they would realize that AC1 is already far faster in terms of horizontal movement because AC1 has very little recovery between jumps. Mirage’s recovery between jumps is absolutely fucked because there’s an obvious pause between every jump. This is bad because Mirage is trying to incorporate Classic AC level design, which focused heavily on chains of constant jumping between beams and ledges. It was great in Classic AC because: a) you had the control and responsiveness to decide how you wanted to move around b) Altaïr and Ezio had low jump recoveries, meaning that they don’t slow down or lose momentum There are two possible problems with this approach in Mirage: a) the constant jumps reveal how awful it feels and looks to jump in Mirage and the RPG engine b) you will lose momentum with literally every jump as Basim pauses on every landing This means that parkour in Mirage will either be inoffensive, or depending on the person, absolute torture as they have to not only wrangle Basim but they also have to contend with constantly losing momentum and floaty, sluggish movement. The only reason people actually think AC1 is slower is because people who didn’t actually play the game saw complaints about Altaïr’s climbing being slow and extrapolated that to mean everything about AC1 is slow. Mirage’s climbing isn’t even the original complaint you made, it was the jump recoveries, and anyone who actually PLAYED AC1 knows they are far faster than Mirage’s, easily.
this is what I wanted say in the original video addressing my issue with Mirage's parkour (or what we saw, so far) and the comments. I'm not good with spontaneous responses while keeping my emotions in check.
I absolutely HATE how ppl can't formulate their own opinions and just instead be lazy or delusional and just take in the public opinion instead of looking into it first hand.... imagine if ppl took the time to research about comparing AC1 to Mirage of how it plays with its parkour and its speed.... they'd find ppl like 'Leo K [Rogue]' or 'Jcers' that talk and showcase the parkour of the classic ac games
just a side note Altair's climbing is purposely slow the game is designed in a way that if you just head in a straight line you will climb much slower than if you are constantly going for the smaller climbs Altair's initial boost on the wall is much faster than his climbing and you are meant to use this boost to climb the smaller ledges and have an overall faster parkour
@@solace2731 yup, that’s how the game is meant to be played. I was just saying that even if you don’t play the game in such a way, it’s still obvious that AC1’s jumps and jump recoveries are significantly faster and smoother than Basim’s, which was Crossfeet’s original critique
I decided to go back and play ac1 after origins dissapointed me and man it's anything but. Climbing is slow, yes, but I felt like I had complete control over every action I performed and there wasn't any of that delay in movement at all. This new parkour system for mirage looks like they put no effort into not only making it feel like a return to roots but to actually make it a decent parkour system at all. Most of it I feel comes from the simplified map design. The newer games of course have far more detail, thus the detection system used to detect where to go, how to interpolate your movement and fit in an animation to boot is what could be making that pause so large. in AC1 there were set locations you could grab that were obvious, so the system just jumps and can make a quick and obvious distinction between what you could and couldn't grab.
Yes and no Yes because you had to think about it No because the game doesn't tell you about it and it's not required it for 95% of the time, so you will be just moving forwards
The parkour in the new ones is superhuman and holds your hand like a baby crossing the street. The old ones force you to look at your environment selectively and its a little dated but its still just a learning curve that once you understand, you feel like an unstoppable master assassin.
@@TheArcher101imo they could've done something like Splinter cell Blacklist with the Execution system rather than the teleporting assassination thing.

It's only slow if you don't understand how to actually play the game, you're not gonna escape a group of guards by mindlessly slamming your head against the facade of buildings, you have to actually put some thought into how you traverse the enviorment for a cleaner escape and that's a good thing, also speed is my last concern when it comes to Mirage's parkour
@@jmgonzales7701 depth, lack of back and side ejects, no jump button or reliable catch ledge will mean that even with good level design, parkour will largely just be following set parkour paths with no room to really diverge and carve your own unique path through the enviorment, you have no meaningful to interact with the world other than holding forward + button

It's not about speed , its about the freedom in which you can parkour , the ejects , the grabs and the long jumps all added to the parkour a sense that you were doing something , Unity just added much more with low and high parkouring This whole new era of just holding 2 buttons to climb is fucking irritating , even Dying light 2 parkour is better then AC valhalla

I like this game cuz it's the only one where the npc's thought of you matters like when it's a socially acceptable thing that Altair does or not. For example, Climbing ladders is more socially acceptable than parkouring to a roof. In which case the npc will not get suspicious of your actions and are still in cover from the guards

People actually don’t realize that the old games had a large skill gap in terms of learning the parkour and having knowledge of the the best course. You can bet that mirage won’t have that same depth.
AC1 parkour is just: Either you're lucky the pathfinding while doing parkour is on your side, OR "good luck next time" because Altir jumps again in the totally different direction as you wanted and dies.
@@shigarumo121 The thing is, there's nothing "luck-based" about the original games' parkour. You're either good at it and have a good handle on the controls, or you don't, and you're flat out bad it. They had a skill-gap that most failed to apparently realize was even there to begin with.
@@frecklenuckle4450t's also that the actual complexity of parkour wasn't necessarily a common part of the gameplay for the majority of AC players, so while this isn't the case many people would have felt them using the "same" parkour system through different games. With that in mind, if you consider that Unity stylized (very well I might add) an otherwise basic parkour system, it's easy to see why it's become a favourite to many.
It's true that by today's standards AC1 may be a little "clunky" or a little less "flashy" but in truth I haven't seen any game give so much freedom to move that AC1 gives, not even dedicated parkour games like mirror's edge don't have such freedom
I think the misconception comes from people remembering mostly climbing high towers to synchronize. And you can't argue that reaching for each handhold was slow in AC1, unlike the horizontal movement that you showcased. AC2 did improve this and since most of us found out about back ejects, side ejects and the AC1-unique cancel-drop years later, the memories of Altair's adventure seem to be fuzzy for most. NOTE: I like how they go back to the AC1 version of the vertical climbing in that hallucination Desmond has in AC2, as if just to make you feel the difference :)
@@Zueiro_P.RHe's referring to that brief moment in AC2 where you'll play as Altaïr. As far as I know, the parkour system in that section in AC2 is that of AC1.
If as those people never played Assassin’s Creed 1 before. Many people forget that AC1 to Revelation Parkour had A LOT of Freedom to it’s Gameplay Controls unlike the games afterwards where it became Automated. People may like the Flashy Cool Animation that was from AC Unity but is it Actually FUNCTIONAL that’s the Question. The Parkour Gameplay feels a bit Floaty and sometimes Unresponsive. As if Arno was like Flying all over the place. As much how ambitious the RPG Games were on how you can climb on Anything including Statues and Mountains, it doesn’t help that the Parkour feels all over the place. So yeah I don’t know how EXACTLY Mirage will play out even though it’s Faster than Valhalla Parkour. I’m also worried how Codename: Red (Japan) & Codename: Hexe (Witch) will play like at 2024-2025?
Yeah, AC1-Revelations parkour was quite simple while having a lot freedom at the same time. People who say it sucked or that Unity's is better (which imo has very great parkour, just not as much freedom) have no idea how to properly use it.
Not really. Unity had up and down climbing on separate buttons, giving the player way more freedom on where to go and at the same time maintained the quick change of direction of the previous AC, when you can simply do a 180 easily and at the same time going down if you want to.

I play AC1 back in the day on release and it was so different and so new that it blew my mind and I fell in love with it. It's been so long I totally forgot how fluid the parkour system was, I love how you would change direction at the last second and the game would respond perfectly like when you look like you are about to go up but instead do a 180 degree jump all in a very smooth and fluid motion not with lots of janky stopping and starting.
I played AC1 again recently and the only thing that made the side missions bearable was the parkour speed. It's just that it takes a bit of effort and lateral thinking to master
I did the same thing, but even then the side missions weren't bearable. They're one of the downsides of the game. The parkour though, once you start getting better at it, is a lot of fun.
Yeah the mission design was awful by comparison to AC2 onwards. I really tried super hard to enjoy the game because I love the franchise so thank god the story was interesting and the parkour worked most of the time.
@@frenchynoob For me, maybe the first mission or two were slightly boring, but then because they're so repetitive without anything unique or interesting, they became really boring and not worth wasting time on, so I stopped playing them since they were optional, but what doesn't help is that the main missions felt repetitive as well, so the game for me was brought down in both main and side missions 😅

After recently replaying AC1 and this was after I gave Unity a first playthrough I have a whole new appreciation for this game more so than I did the first or second playthrough. I realise now just how truly deep the first AC1 game is and that's something that AC2 and all other good AC games could not replicate, even if AC2 is my most favourite the first Assassin's Creed has always special and it took me years to understand that.
AC1’s vertical climbing if you’re not putting any thought into it is slow, but if you use the environment to your advantage and put some thought into how you’re traversing areas it’s way quicker than people remember. And it’s a much more urbanised game than many AC games imo, as in the environments are densely packed so you can move between buildings much more easily with standard parkour.
I'd definitely say it'd be closely realistic too since you're carrying that much equipment. I'm not a rock climber or anything but I'd definitely take my time climbing up from a tall tower.
I really enjoyed Ac1 parkour recently played it and was chased on foot I love the dive that Altair does through the shop stands such a cool parkour move
What a coincidence, just started playing AC1 on my PC for the first time yesterday. My favourite part of the game is that you get equipments and abilities progressively and you get to see your outfit change in the progress.
I did the same the last few day and also started AC2 yesterday.. And personally, I'm just glad you don't have to earn back all the basics again, but there are still things to learn.
People who think mirage is “back to roots” are only thinking surface deep. They would be satisfied if it were a stegosaurus wearing roller skates so long as it also had a white hood and hidden blade.
Ac1 maps were so well designed parkour wise, pretty much everywhere there was a path to, trick was in actually noticing and taking it, instead of having spider man grip and just going in a straight line up and over eberything. Also the wall eject move was integral to quick traversal in many places
The people that always call AC1 bad are the same ones that joined the AC franchise after the Ezio trilogy and probably only played the new trash games.
Even the die-hards don't deny that the mission structure is repetitive and basic. As for everything else, AC1 is basically a prototype, a proof of concept; there is not much meat on that bone. AC2 refined every element as a sequel should. There is a reason that most fans skip 1 when replaying the series. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug isn't it.
@@danielflanard8274 Skipping AC1 is wild, it has one of the best stories and literally introduces the universe Also I will never get how people call this game "repetitive", it's like 6 hours long. And you have freedom in your missions. Later games, even fan favorites like 2 and brotherhood tend to just lead you from waypoint to waypoint which removes half the fun imo.

AC 1 is amazing. I love how there’s no animation for injured enemies, they just get an animated ragdoll which perishes within 20 seconds. Due to its realism it’s my favourite AC game.
Thank you! I will send this to every wrong person I come accros. Some blame is with AC1, we never had a parkour teacher. The fact that tge most engaging parkour system is still in the 1st game... is crazy, but true. Crazier still that people don't know that.
I’m guessing they only considered climbing vertically, which they gave a huge boost in 2 and Revelations later on, but it still gets the job done here. Assassins creed 1 is my favorite of the franchise and always will be, it would take way to long to explain why, but trust me, I’ve got my reasons. Back to the parkour, That was incredible, the only thing I’m not great at is the vaulting.
AC1 is still the best AC game in my eyes. Because it is very immersive. I love the soundtrack, the environment and the sheer zen simplicity of the game. It doesn't try to do 100 bad things to expand the gameplay but it sure does 10 good things that makes it memorable. I still play it. More than Ezio Trilogy, even. Just because of that strong immersion.
I don't think these people can comprehend how difficult it is to parkour/freerun "fast", even the fastest masters of parkour wouldn't be fast in their eyes. I bet they can't even run and jump longer than 30 seconds in real life, they're simply not worth the attention, lol. This. Even in AC Bloodlines, the PSP game of all things, allowed you to pick which weapon to wield, and it's always satisfying to land counters with the hidden blade.
@@Endersoul-tx1of That is because Bloodlines came out alongside 2 right at the beginning of the series when using the hidden blade in combat was an option and would continue to be in every entry for 5 more years until Unity did away with it.

It literally is slow and that's fine, they were in uncharted waters creating a state of the art system with limited technology. The Ezio trilogy made it faster and more fluid.
@@chrissant6277Horizontal movement is the slowest of all the AC games & AC 1 has some of the most uneven rooftops of the series. That's why the game feels slow. The parkour is quite sensitive too, combined with uneven rooftops led many to make mistakes, slowing them down even more.
Brooo the 1st game looks so freaking realistic, like everything done there could actually be done in real life, meanwhile the last game looks wacky af with its jumps, like wtf is this 0:30 it looks more like a freakin donkey kong jumping than an actual person
the thing i love most about AC1 - Revelations' parkour was that it wasn't just a traversal system; it was a part of the gameplay. the movement needed to be deliberate because your character wouldn't just magnetically snap to the ledges. you NEEDED to press the grab button. you NEEDED to properly align your characters. you needed to actually calculate the distance between you and the ledge to know if you'll make the jump it made the parkour satisfying because you were a part of the decision-making process, and most importantly, it added TENSION. i still remember the prince of persia-style crypts from AC2, you feel genuine fear and adrenaline rush from climbing because one wrong move means either dying or having to restart a large chunk of the platforming section again.
The old AC games actually made you think where to jump or climb to scale a building. It was also fully based on realism. You didn't just jump 5 feet in the air and scale an entire building with one jump like freaking Spiderman(Looking at you Eivor).
And given how Mirage has no proper wall eject and is just press A to go up and B to go down it takes away any meaningful way to direct yourself to reach for different areas
Idk why , he's not that strong compare to other assassins but his name , personality and outfit , he actually feels likes "the greatest assassin altaïr ibn-lahad"
Literally rebought ac 1 just to experience the parkour again. The most frustrating thing for me is the doing the vaulting. Could never get the timing right
So, vaulting happens on the second hop, right? Before your legs touch the first beam, you hold the tackle button at the same time as the sprint button.
In a series of hops, when you get to the second hop you can just hold empty hand and release after you see the animation. You can hold to fully stop and get into a hanging position (if you vault on a beam)
Yeah yt comments, it’s probably slow if you play like an npc holding high profile + legs and make no effort to use ejects for height gain (rather than being trapped in a slow climb.) Seriously brain rotten take when you have this much control with your movement.
I prefer the parkour from Assassin's Creed 1 and Ezio trilogy, the movements are fast, simple, precise, and direct, not slowed down by stylist jump or maneuver.
and guess what? doing it properly is literally impossible when you encounter tons of bugs and the fact that vaulting which is a really good mechanic in ac1 isn't even told to players that it even existed, people literally only first discovered it because they accidentally did it.
Most of the people who talked shit are new players/fans, never played the old games themselves just saw gameplay of the old games or they didn't paid attention while playing the old games that's why they don't remember how it feels like to play the old games and also don't understand the emotions the old games gave back in those days.

Ac1 has never been surpassed in my opinion. It does everything right. The story and setting is perfect, the focussed missions in combination with the agile and blending assassin. Repetition is part of the job. Ezio was too expressive and extravert for an assassin, one could see him coming from 10 miles away. After that, AC3 and Unity came closer to it’s roots… but AC1 blew me away
I played other AC games first and tried AC1 after them.. it took me until a few days ago to finally beat AC1, because it's so repetitiv, I got bored really fast every single time I tried it. And I own AC1 since 2011. Because you do the excat same things again and gain in every city, in every mission.. Because of that, the last target mission was actually fun, due the fact, it was a bit different. I mean, I get it, if you played AC1 the first time in 2007, or it's your first AC game, but if you played other AC games before, it's really not that great.
@@shigarumo121 that’s something I will never know. 😅! But, I really like the idea of discipline and repetitiveness of the assassin’s job. Sort of a burden. Ezio and the others were just having a great time. I must however admit, I wouldn’t enjoy AC 1 now as much as I did the first time. And there are games I played that will never get old. So I guess you’re right. It’s too repetitive to be fun after all.
I think you're letting nostalgia talk here the story is good, the settings is great, but the core gameplay? it's slow, repetitive and hella boring i understand it makes you FEEL like an assassin, but the fun factor matters a lot more i can't even say it's good. it's average at best imo.
Yea the only thing slow about AC1 was prolonged vertical climbing, but I also remember being absolutely stupid and trying to climb to escape guards, however rooftop running has always been fun as hell.
I think those who called it slow probably too noob to dodge civilian when running because Altair always have that problem where he cant shove people like Ezio does
If they really want to go back to the roots then the viewpoints must be what they were in AC 1, I remember that back in AC 1 I got stuck in a memory because I didnt like to synchronize with them, now I understand the importance of the synchronization and hate that from AC 2 and beyond the viewpoints got reduced to the point that they are not even necessary anymore, heck I even went through AC 3 without synchronizing with any of them unless it was 100% necessary lol (sorry for my bad english, have a nice day whoever reads this :D)
Slow or not, at least in AC1 you don't literally change the physics of the universe between every jump. The new shit is just unnatural af, it looks like THE CHARACTER is playing a videogame.
AC1 has by far the most complex parkour in the series and its sad because its not a complex system at all It should have been the base that they expanded upon in future games, like how DMC1 has a very solid combat system that still holds up to this day but got iterated on in its sequels and successors to become even better and more complex the Ezio games are a sidegrade and everything post Rev is a downgrade This would be like if DMC3's combat was just DMC1's combat but quicker and then DMC4 and 5 had dogshit combat
AC2 parkour is literally so much more enjoyable imo. Especially since you climb things faster. Also: everything after AC1 is way more precise. I died in Ac1 more to wrong pathfinding while jumping than from fights.
i agree that ac1 is jank but part of my point was that ac2 having faster climbing isnt necessarily better. part of what made ac1's parkour good was how you had a choice to make: either go fast (parkour) or go easy (climbing) ac2 adding climb leaps and fast climbing makes the dichotomy between speeds in direct climbing vs parkour much smaller. you can go easy and fast at the same time. there's less extrinsic reason to do parkour. this isnt even mentioning how rev makes running forward optimal due to map design, making cool parkour in that game essentially only motivated intrinsically if at all ac1's slower climbing, map design, and vaulting mechanic all make its parkour more complex than the ezio games and everything after the ezio games is abysmal and not even worth talking about i dont even find ac1 the most fun. i would play ac2 10/10 times over ac1 but i would take the ideas behind the balance in ac1's parkour over some corner swing interactables.
it's literally the same thing as AC2-Revelations, what the actual fuck are you talking about? the only thing making it complex is that it doesn't teach you some of the mechanics such as vaulting.

I've seen those Unity parkour youtubers show how long it takes to make their videos. Unity's parkour is inconsistent and clunky. In Unity, it looks like Arno is magnetically snapping to surfaces or he looks like he is floating in the air. Ac1 and Ac2 parkour is the peak of the franchise.
Just finished playing AC1 on PS3 again. Only parkour issue was sometimes he wouldn’t climb objects that he clearly should have been able to climb just because it wasn’t coded for him to climb it.
It was great in Classic AC because:
a) you had the control and responsiveness to decide how you wanted to move around
b) Altaïr and Ezio had low jump recoveries, meaning that they don’t slow down or lose momentum
There are two possible problems with this approach in Mirage:
a) the constant jumps reveal how awful it feels and looks to jump in Mirage and the RPG engine
b) you will lose momentum with literally every jump as Basim pauses on every landing
This means that parkour in Mirage will either be inoffensive, or depending on the person, absolute torture as they have to not only wrangle Basim but they also have to contend with constantly losing momentum and floaty, sluggish movement.
I'm not good with spontaneous responses while keeping my emotions in check.

just a side note
Altair's climbing is purposely slow
the game is designed in a way that if you just head in a straight line you will climb much slower than if you are constantly going for the smaller climbs
Altair's initial boost on the wall is much faster than his climbing and you are meant to use this boost to climb the smaller ledges and have an overall faster parkour
One of the coolest details in AC1 is that you can hear Altair's equipment clanking

The real trick is to chain wall runs and side ejects! Keep that momentum going.

the thing i love most about AC1 - Revelations' parkour was that it wasn't just a traversal system; it was a part of the gameplay.
the movement needed to be deliberate because your character wouldn't just magnetically snap to the ledges. you NEEDED to press the grab button. you NEEDED to properly align your characters. you needed to actually calculate the distance between you and the ledge to know if you'll make the jump
it made the parkour satisfying because you were a part of the decision-making process, and most importantly, it added TENSION.

In a series of hops, when you get to the second hop you can just hold empty hand and release after you see the animation. You can hold to fully stop and get into a hanging position (if you vault on a beam)

@@exoz6771you can hold circle in the later sections of ac1 and altair will shove people out of the way while running.
@@exoz6771 I'm pretty sure he had, it just got unlocked later in the game, like manual ledge grabbing.
I mean it truly feels slow lmao. Last AC game I played was origin a few months ago.
people who think mirage is faster clearly haven't played any assassin's creed before
They have played Valhalla
I never played the old Assassin's creed games including this one and wtf were the Parkour really this good!?
Yea you had a lot more manual control and had to put in effort to understand the mechanics to go faster.
@@Doctor_Feel_Good that's amazing
ac classic don't lose momentum when you run form beam to beam, not like the valhalla 2.0 parkour
Sitting down is the Assassins way of mic drop.
I love how you could feel the weight in the parkour of ac1, and every sound effect of every step was really well done.
I’ve never seen that slide animation before and I’ve played this game so many times my mind is actually baffled 😂
Me too.finished the game twice when released.dont remember this.move.maybe its a.mod?
@@kostasnyoits not a mod.
u just didnt know how to parkour properly
@@demolishergaming6593please shut the fuck up. That isn’t even a game mechanic, it’s an animation exploit
@@demolishergaming6593how do you do it?
Slow or not, at least in AC1 you don't literally change the physics of the universe between every jump. The new shit is just unnatural af, it looks like THE CHARACTER is playing a videogame.
AC1 has by far the most complex parkour in the series and its sad because its not a complex system at all
It should have been the base that they expanded upon in future games, like how DMC1 has a very solid combat system that still holds up to this day but got iterated on in its sequels and successors to become even better and more complex
the Ezio games are a sidegrade and everything post Rev is a downgrade
This would be like if DMC3's combat was just DMC1's combat but quicker and then DMC4 and 5 had dogshit combat
AC2 parkour is literally so much more enjoyable imo. Especially since you climb things faster. Also: everything after AC1 is way more precise. I died in Ac1 more to wrong pathfinding while jumping than from fights.
i agree that ac1 is jank but part of my point was that ac2 having faster climbing isnt necessarily better. part of what made ac1's parkour good was how you had a choice to make: either go fast (parkour) or go easy (climbing)
ac2 adding climb leaps and fast climbing makes the dichotomy between speeds in direct climbing vs parkour much smaller. you can go easy and fast at the same time. there's less extrinsic reason to do parkour. this isnt even mentioning how rev makes running forward optimal due to map design, making cool parkour in that game essentially only motivated intrinsically if at all
ac1's slower climbing, map design, and vaulting mechanic all make its parkour more complex than the ezio games and everything after the ezio games is abysmal and not even worth talking about
i dont even find ac1 the most fun. i would play ac2 10/10 times over ac1 but i would take the ideas behind the balance in ac1's parkour over some corner swing interactables.
@hypermonkeybird4945 Ac1 honestly had a great base for the assassin/parkour stuff, which never really got anywhere for the sequels.
it's literally the same thing as AC2-Revelations, what the actual fuck are you talking about? the only thing making it complex is that it doesn't teach you some of the mechanics such as vaulting.
@@hypermonkeybird4945also the map design is literally really repetitive, most of the time i always feel like i'm parkouring in the same place over and over again.
These comments reminded me of just how painful it is to see the same "AC2 clunky parkour" type of comments in subreddit two or three times every month
I think Mirage's parkour is only going to please those who never appreciated the complexity of the parkour in the classic games ( AC1 - Syndicate )
syndicate has garbage parkour and unity is very contextual as well. Parkour was perfect from 1 to revelations (cause basically same system) then got a bit worse and worse with every game released after.
@@prime_sol1610unity parkour is the best in the series and a lot of it was translated to syndicate granted it was worse but doesn't mean it was horrible, cope
@@hooodedhawkUnity parkour isn't even remotely close to being the series best.
@@Pedro_Le_ChefI believe so
Look up park over compilation of unity then compare it to ac1 or 2
Fluidity and Smoothness + Speed is unbeatable
Side eject and hop is used but not used all the time due to Paris building layout so it depends on context but everything is else is almost flawless
Its comparable to Spider-Mans movement system in those aspects
@@WhyYuSober Fluidity and smoothness is what you see because the creator of the video has chosen a very specific route and practiced it for hours. I've seen those Unity parkour youtubers show how long it takes to make their videos. Unity's parkour is inconsistent and clunky. It looks pretty when choreographed but mechanically it's deeply flawed.
The earlier systems gave you much more freedom, more precision and the jumps looked more realistic and physics based.
