The "Before" version of Prescott is a mirror image of me when I found this video. With two changes - head down, reach, I chopped 10 seconds off per hundred in 4 swims. I thought head down was unnecessary advice - 'there's no way I am looking up'. I was, obvious when I actually paid attention, didn't need a camera. Still a long way to go, but this video gives me confidence for the journey.
Me too. But the improvements in the meantime are rewarding. I've done other sport where even elite athletes have discussed their 5 year plans. That sort of performance takes remarkable physical and attributes from what I've seen.
@@butafogo1 Don't give up. Three years may seem to far away from now, but if you stick with it, you'll enjoy swimming better and faster for decades ahead. 😉
I needed to see this, long time ultra runner, getting into triathlon as a 42 year old age grouper, currently swim a 2:05/100M over a 1,500M distance, feeling defeated and slow, like I will have already lost coming out of the water, hope with coaching and work I can bring my times down.
Amazing to see, wow. I'm also stuck at around 2:10/m, I'll try to pay attention to these details. I appreciate the wonderful videos, Brenton, they are really helpful! Never stop doing this :D
Your videos have helped tremendously for me. This will be my 6th month in the pool and was consistently 2:14/100m now down to 1:35s. Still a lot more content to watch and a lot to work on. Thank you
Awesome improvement. Just by following your videos, I've gone from a 10:25 for 500m to a 9:50. One thing I noticed about Prescott, where I still struggle, is maintaining core engagement to connect my feet, hips, and shoulders in the stroke. I hope to figure out how to make some videos so I can engage with your program. My current best time for 100m is 1:41 so there is still lots of room for improvement!
That's a great video! I really need this perspective on exactly how long it takes to get to this level of performance. I'm a 2:05/2:10 swimmer myself and I've been working on my technique for the past 2-3 months trying to understand why I'm not seeing a huge improvement in my timing, so this video has been very beneficial to put things in perspective.
@effortlesssimming fantastic videos.....really top notch. I'm curious about the depth of the arm extension on his left side. It's very deep vs the right side which is closer to the surface of the water. I would have expected too much drag but he brought his time down very well without really fixing this. I have poor shoulder flexion so I'm curious how important it is to fix this for freestyle. Thanks!
Awesome work and progress. Ballpark, What percentage would you say is technique improvement and what percentage is overall fitness improvement that resulted in the faster times? Only asking because I know that swimming is a very technical discipline. Thanks!
thank you for this content. ive just started swimming. i timed a couple of 100s and was so out of breath swimming 2.05-10s per 100. watched a few of your videos and i did some 1.50s and my lungs arent exploding. much more enjoyable swimming. just need to keep putting in some hard work and keep learning here. i need a workout plan though
I gave up to swimming classes years ago, because the coaches mostly tell you to do a number of laps kicking or doing regular swimming without any technical advice, like pretending they are teaching you something. A waste of time and money. I know there are really good coaches out there, as this video proves, but I've just being unlucky so far.
Thanks for the video - so many things I need to work on!! One thing I noticed was that Prescott seemed to progress from a 6 beat kick to close to a 2 beat kick by the final video. Was that intentional, and did it contribute to his progress?
I'll call it semi-intentional. I had no idea what my kick was doing when I started. As I started improving, I became more aware of my kick and it naturally changed as I focused more on it. I did not, however, choose 2-beat consciously.
Good video. I have a couple of questions though. What's the length of the pool 25 or 50 and what's the turn, flip turn or open turn? I ask because I´m losing rhythm (= time) on the turn.
Thanks for all the tips! What I am struggling is to go to a higher cadence but on the other hand flow as far as possible before the catch. Isn’t this a either or discussion? Thanks for a feedback guys.
Hey Brenton, hope you're well. What sort of numbers in terms of swimming frequency and distances per week is required for this type of improvement? I'm guessing that this is up to 5 swim sessions per week? And total weekly distance would be at least 10km?
Thank you for sharing very useful information! Am i understood right that he is doing a kick of a right foot with left and right strokes? Is it normal?
Wow, January 2021 and someone is swimming in a pool. I also would like to improve my freestyle but with pools closed since October in my country and average temperature 5 Celsius since October there is really absolutely NO chance. Life is so good for us swimmers in Covid era. Thanks China.
Great vid! I recently did a CSS Threshold session taken from the swimsmooth book. My CSS is 2:10 but I managed to average a 2:05 for the whole session. Does that mean my CSS is not actually 2.10?
WOW that is an insane drop, and it is really interesting to see how this can all still apply to my stroke to a certain extent even though my pace as a 13y/o female is a 1:17 as of jan 2021 :)
When I joined his program, I had one speed: 2:10/100m. My max speed now is 1:22/100m. My last CSS test was Nov-20 and it calculated to 1:35/100m. The ES remote coaching is really good.
Hope it got better in the meantime. But just to commiserate, when I came back to the pool I could barely swim 50m. After a few months, I'm back to my previous form and managed to even get some PBs.
Your tips make so much sense but never seem to work for me...I never get faster even when I try and do all of the above..anyway I'll keep watching and trying. (Must be doin it wrong)
Hi, I've been following you for a long time and everything in your videos has always been spectacular. The sessions are great, the quality is fantastic... this channel is absolutely brilliant and you helped me a lot with the majority of my curiosities about swimming, thank you so much. Anyway, I would like to make a suggestion (if it's not a problem): I'm convinced that you can add a really funny video on your channel to show us some of the funniest things happened while swimming or even during other water activities, it can be something like a "oops and bloopers" compilation. For example, you could make a compilation of all of the times where you or your friends get "caught" on video while peeing in the water (my uncle, who is a scuba diver, always tells me there are 2 types of surfers, divers and swimmers: those who pee in the water and those who lie), you can also include those moments in the future videos just to keep having a bit of humour on your channel, you can use both old and new clips, what do you think? I know it sounds weird, but, for me, it's the funniest thing about divers and swimmers. When a swimmer pees in the water, I think he demonstrates to be someone who is not afraid of consequences or to be judged. I think it's something that can come out great! I'd be so so happy to watch it, let me know, have a great day!
Nope, it says in a description that its a 1500m effort, so his pace before was 2:10 per 100m on a 1500m distance and now ita 1:32 per 100m on a 1500m distance
Yes it does. Because more people feel like they are shit swimmers and desperately want to be average swimmers but dont know how. As the masses progress the audience gets smaller for average to excellent. Want to be excellent? Focus on details and on dexterity (which really doesnt validate a video).

It's an odd length pool, shy of 25m. And I do flip turns which I taught myself at the very beginning.
Almost every pool in the US is 25 yards, or 22.86M. I’m guessing this pool is “short course” at 25 yards
